This book is intended to give preg­nant teenagers an overview of sexual­ity-its choices, and consequences. Testimonials from teenagers are com­bined with information on pregnancy; childbirth; infant care; birth control; parenting; and options such as mar­riage, school, and relinquishing the baby for adoption. There-is an emphasis on taking responsibility, and teenagers being in charge of their lives.

Although nutrition information is a minor part of this otherwise very in­formative book, much of the nutrition information contains half-truths and unnecessarily negative innuendos. The chapter on nutrition incorrectly states that caloric needs during pregnancy increase minimally while the need for other nutrients doubles. There is no mention of desirable amounts of weight gain although food groups are divided into higher and lower caloric levels. An emphasis on limiting weight gain, while maximizing nutrient intake, is not appropriate for teens who often gain weight poorly and have a high in­cidence of low-birthweight babies. And statements linking "junk food" with complexion problems and greasy hair may damage the authors' credibility.

While the authors encourage breast­feeding, they make it sound difficult and imply that it requires extensive preparation. Information on the fat con­tent of breast milk is incorrect. and there is no mention of formula feeding or the possibility of combining breast­feeding and bottle feeding.

In summary. this is a useful book that could have been better if the nutrition information was either eliminated or written by someone with a more in­depth knowledge of teenage prenatal nutrition.
