The KRJ grouprecognized that we have so many people in ourcommunity with a variety of Talents to share and that iswhat prompted them to host the rst Sindhi Talent Nightin 2011.

People of all ages come together to present their Talentsto a packed audience. The performances ranged fromDancing & Singing to poetry and even a yo-yo act and theperformers spanned from ages 5 75 years old.

Lucky Ali, with his husky voice and distinctive styleof music, is a well known Indian Singer, songwriter,composer and actor! For all those of you who knowMehmood, Lucky Ali is none other than his son :)

His album Sunoh established him as a pop singer. He

won many awards for this album including the Best PopMale Vocalist at the 1996 Screen Awards and the ChannelV Viewers Choice Award in 1997.

It stayed on the MTV Asia Charts for 60 weeks. Thesong O Sanam from Sunoh, launched his career and isconsidered by some to be one of the best indi-pop songsever.

He released many more albums that were all reasonablysuccessful.

Lucky Alis Balad-style singing is highly melodious andcatchy for the reason that he sings from the heart.

Rang Bharse Bheege Chunar Wali,

Rang Bharse... goes the very popularHindi bollywood song sung at every holicelebration year after year! Translated, itmeans Its raining colours ... drenching thescarf clad girl. This irting is a traditionfrom Lord Krishna, a reincarnation of LordVishnu, who liked to pay pranks on thevillage girls by drenching them in coloursand water. It is depicted in Bollywood lmswhere you see the hero irting with theheroine amidst the spray of colours.

There is however more to this celebrationthan irting!

Indians celebrate Holi, the festival ofcolours, around the globe with muchenthusiasm. There are multiple reasonsfor this celebration, which encourages theplay with colours.

Preparations for Holi...In India, the entire country is in a buzzof frenzy in preparation for this majorcelebration much before the day. Different

sweets and savouries are prepared by thewomen. Market places buzz with activitiesand sale of the pichkaris (water handpump) which is used to spray colours.Children and adults are all equally excited.

Nature also prepares itself for this SpringFestival. After the gloomy winter, springbrings hope joy and brings out the best ofmoods in people. Nature also brings outtheir best colours helping the festive moodand bringing fragrance to the air.

On the day of the celebration, all ofcesand shops are closed and people areeverywhere throwing colours on eachother. The use water balloons and

pichkaris are common. The young and the

old celebrate this day together.

The Legend ...Holi festival commemorates the victory ofgood over evil which was brought about bythe destruction of the demoness Holika.The Hindu God of preservation, LordVishnu, enabled this through the devotionof Prahlad the pious son of the DemonKing Hiranyakashyab. Ever since then,people light a bonre called Holika on theeve of Holi to celebrate this victory.

The Ecstasy of Bhang...It is also in the tradition to consume theintoxicating drink of Bhang during thisfestival. This drink is made with marijuanaleaves, milk, crushed al monds, rosewater,powdered ginger and garam masala(mixed spices). Preparations of bhang aresacred to the Hindu gods in mythologyand it is believed that Lord Shiva wasparticularly fond of this drink because hediscovered its transcendental qualities.He is sometimes referred to as the Lord

of Bhang. Bhang is also used for variousailments in ayurvedic medicines.

Holi, the festival of colours, removesall the differences amongst people. Aseveryone gets covered with colours andlook alike, they lose their individuality anddevelop oneness. Holi is a celebration ofbecoming one with all. Forgiveness is alsoin the air... enemies become friends and afeeling of brotherhood prevails at the endof the day.
