SynEnergy consists of a Suite of software modules, specifically tailored to Hydrocarbon Management, mostmarkedly Oil and Gas. These applications cover a wide range of application from Analyzer Management,Metering Supervisory, Pipeline Management to Tank Farm Management and Truck Loading. By integratingthese modules to one Hydrocarbon Management system, functionality is created that was not availablebefore.

Hydrocarbon Management

(Virtual) Flow ComputingKROHNE Oil & Gas has been creating flow metering sys-tems since 1983, originally under the name of PolarSystems. The culmination of allthis flow computing knowledgeis integrated into extremelyversatile flow computing soft-ware.This software consists of NMiapproved software modules,which can be dragged on the screen like building blocks.Together they create the complete metering functionality,while ensuring proper documentation.Unique for the Polar software is that it can run in a FC51Flow computer, but that it can also run unaltered as a "vir-tual" flow computer in a PC. Virtual flow computing is idealwhen large number of streams must be catered for.

KROHNE Oil & Gas combines its excellent measurement equipment for oil and gas with in-depth knowledgeof analyzer equipment and calibration. This is drastically enhanced with the following basic software:

Level Computing In level computing, a large amount of data has to beanalysed to calculate the level and refer it to the cailbra-tion data for the tank.

KROHNE Oil & Gas has greatly simplified this task by inte-grating this software into field-mounted units, togetherwith integrated strapping tables and conversion algo-rithms. Because of these front-end calculations, fieldwiring is greatly simplified and maintenance becomes fareasier.

CalSysis well known as the standard for validation and calibra-tion of metering systems, analysers and instrumentation. CalSys can be used in fully automatic mode, semi-auto-matic mode or manual mode. In all cases it optimizes thevalidation process by minimizing errors in operation, cal-culations and registration using a well-structured andproven approach.


Analytical PerformanceAnalytical performance ensures theAccuracy and precision of the analysersand transmitters by orchestrating the vali-dation and calibration process. The first tool is the significance testing ofthe validation and calibration results.More importantly, Statistical ProcessControl (SPC) is used to check whether avalidation should result in a calibration.This accounts for outliers, trends, non-ran-domness, reproducibility rate and system-atic errors.Performance reports can be generated perplant, area and analyzer.

Systems can be created, based onvirtual flow computers only, frompurpose built up to the mostadvanced complete redundant sys-tems with an availability of 99.99%.KROHNE Oil & Gas metering soft-ware is built with connectivity inmind. Web-based interfacing isavailable. Interfaces are available toDCS (such as OPC), to HydrocarbonAccounting and SAP for maintenanceor accounting.

Performance MonitoringNowadays meters and analysers are becoming intelli-gent. As a result on-line performance monitoring hasbecome possible. Ultrasonic meters, for instance, canbe verified against analysers using velocity of sound.With this, the correct calibration of the metering sys-tem can be guaranteed. Actual Metering can also becombined with actual Proving and Validation&Calibration using CalSys. By combining above with Statistical Process Control,events can be predicted and maintenance scheduled,thereby minimizing expensive ad-hoc maintenance.

Leak Detection and localisationIn many countries leak detection has become mandatoryand must comply with official regulations (see bottom ofthis page)Leak detection always suffered from false alarms due tolimitations of the underlying software. There is always acompromise between the time to detect a leak and thepossibility of false alarms.KROHNE Oil & Gas has overcome these compromises bydeveloping an Extended-Real Time Transient Model (E-RTTM). This model combines the highest sensitivityeven under transient conditions with zero false alarmsthrough Leak Pattern Recognition.This gives reliable results for stationary and transient flowconditions, even during start-up and stand-still. The modelis sucessfully being used for liquids, gases, and LPG.

Pipeline ManagementWith the pipeline manage-ment module, (semi-)automatic blocking of thepipeline becomes feasible.Via the localization soft-ware in leak detection, aGeographic pipelineoverview can indicate theexact location of the prob-lem on a map. Zooming-inallows you to pin-point theaffected area and to facili-tate damage control.The complete emergency

KROHNE Oil & Gas has extensive experience with tank farm management and with truck and tanker load-ing/ unloading. Standard functionality is already available at field level, and a high level functionality is available inSynEnergy. The total system can easily be tailored to specific local needs.

Product MovementSynEnergy handles the movement of the different prod-ucts from tank to tank and tank to loading area.Extensive logic is available to ensure that incompatibleproduct will not mix and that the proper interlocking isavailable. Movement can be based on batching, on level and onquantity. In the process, an exact mass balance will bemaintained as a safety measure. Specific care is takenwith custody transfer of products and proper documentscan be created.
