What effects can Autism have on the whole family
“When I am feeling unwell, perhaps with a cold and my voice sounds different, my sister can tell when I am ill. If I am lying on the settee feeling low I will suddenly see a cuddly toy whizzing round the door and usually hitting me in the face. This is usually followed by my sister clutching a blanket which she throws over my head. She often accompanies these actions with the words ‘All better now’.”

Strengths and abilities “It is easy to focus on what is wrong and to ignore
what is right. To complain that roses have thorns instead of appreciating that thorns have roses!” Tish
3
You can only change yourself “The only way to endure an earthquake is
to adjust your position! You cannot avoid daily tremors, but you can find a different place to stand!” Tish
4
Success Stories “When everything looks hopeless, it is
the chance to grow into something better. What the caterpillar calls the ‘end of the world’ we call …a butterfly”
5
Look after yourself “You can long for where you could be or
relax into where you are. You can live in a state of constant stress or breathe into every moment as it arises.” Tish
6Acceptance
“Life is about letting go, ceasing to insist on having your own way, or always having to be right. It’s about acceptance and being with what is! Anger, hurt & bitterness are like thieves in the night who steal your ability to love and care. Let go of past pain so you can find your peace!” ” Tish
7Take a breath
“Getting angry is like casting a stone into a wasps nest, you will not only cause an outraged buzz, but you are the one most likely to get stung.” Tish
8 Avoid premature knowing
“Maintain a beginners mind, curious, questioning and inquisitive, so that you never stop growing.” Tish

Banging heads on closed doors
“If you are looking at a closed door, you will never see the open one. The way ahead may take many diversions, so be prepared for surprises...” Tish
10Detail and Slow down!
“Remember, the tortoise beat the hare! Don’t rush so fast that you miss the details, it’s the small things that make life worth living.” Tish
