Comenius Visit to: C.R.Jakobson school, Torma, Estonia
September 2011
Dafydd at Stansted Airport
with Miss Galeozzi and
Mrs Weaving.
We flew with Estonian Air to Tallinn Airport.
We then had a 3 hour drive to Torma.
Dafydd stayed at a chalet guesthouse in Voore, not
far from Torma. We had lovely weather here.
Dafydd visited the Guesthouse Smoke House Sauna. Mrs Weaving got very very hot!
We went for a long walk through the forest to the Endla Nature
Peat pools. It was like walking on soft thick carpet. The forest
Was very quiet. In the forest they have bears, wolves and beavers that live by the riversides.
The ground is covered in red
& yellow moss, and mushrooms
We walked on planks of wood to cross the Peat pools.
We climbed a tower to take in the view over the peat pools.
Here we are at the top! The sunset
was amazing! It was so quiet!
As the sunset over Endla,
we had warm drinks and
food.. Dafydd too!
A great time at Endla... And we didn’t see anybears!
The school has a building for infant and a building for juniors... Just like us. They hang their national
flag at the school entrance.
This is a statue of Carl Robert Jakobson.
He built the school in 1871. He believed
that all children should have the chance to learn at school. The
children are very thankful to Carl Robert Jakobson.
C.R. Jakobson school have
learning areas like us, they
also have a Values board!
The children learn just like you... Reading, writing, co-operation and PE
The children plant trees and shrubs and have a new outdoor play area.
The children from Form 9, were our
guides. They showed us around the
school grounds and classes. They spoke very good English!
The students told us the story of the paintings...Torma is in the country side with forest all around. They use
food from the land, the forest and wood from the trees to help
them survive the harsh winters.
In class 3, the children are learning about the Welsh
Love spoon. The children can
now say ‘Bore da’ and ‘croeso’
The children worked really hard making ‘lovespoon’ cards for the children of
Blenheim Road. ‘Croeso y Estonia’
The children prepared a Welcome Concert for us.
They danced in their National
costume, sang traditional songs and Form 9 did songs
from ‘Grease’... They were great!!
