0hy does 2od need praise "rom me? ho am - that - should o""er 3im praise?0
4rue5 we can never praise 3im enough6 never can our praise be su""icient5 but our
souls are blessed with the impression o" the 2lory o" 2od whenever we praise 3im.
4he soul could praise 2od every moment and yet wanting to praise 3im yet more5 itis constantly hungering and thirsting to "ind the ,eauty and 7er"ection o" 2od. ,y
the praise o" 2od the soul is "illed with bliss6 even to utter the name o" 2od is a
blessing that can "ill the soul with light5 joy and happiness as nothing else can do.
4here is a necessity "or praise in prayer5 praise o" the beauty o" 2od5 "or man must
learn to recogni8e and praise the beauty o" 2od as mani"ested in all 3is creation. -n
this way he impresses beauty on his soul5 and he is able to mani"est it in himsel"5
and he becomes the "riend o" all and is without prejudice. 9or this reason the u"i
cultivates his heart. 4he emblem o" the u"i is a heart between two wings5 meaning
that when the heart is cultivated man can soar up into the heights o" heaven

4he only secret o" attaining happiness is to learn how to appreciate our privileges in
li"e. -" we cultivate that sense o" appreciation we shall be thank"ul5 we shall be
contented and every moment we shall o""er our thanks to 2od5 "or 3is gi"ts are
many and enormous. &he# 'e (" #"t see the) it is *e$ause "ur 'a#ts $"+er
"ur ees r") seei#. all 'ith 'hi$h 'e are *lesse( * /r"+i(e#$e. ;o
meditation5 no study5 nothing can help in that direction5 except one thing5 and that isto keep our eyes open to appreciate every little privilege in li"e5 to admire every
glimpse o" beauty that comes be"ore us5 being thank"ul "or every little love5
kindness or a""ection shown to us by young or old5 rich or poor5 wise or "oolish. -n
this way5 continually developing the "aculty o" appreciating li"e and devoting it to
thanksgiving5 we arrive at a bliss which no words can explain5 a bliss which is
beyond imagination: the bliss that we "ind ourselves having already entered the
kingdom o" 2od.
4he two important things in li"e are the praise o" 2od and the pursuit o" 2od. 4he
praise o" 2od is important5 and it gives bliss in li"e5 butit is #"t the real
attai#)e#t. 4he all!important work in li"e is the attainment o" 2od. 2od cannot be
explained. )ny attempt to do this always ends in "ailure. 4he knowledge o" 3im can
only be attained in the silence and in solitude5 and how to do this cannot be

4here is a side in man>s being ! call it spirit ! which remains unsatis"ied with all that
one has attained in one>s li"etime. 4he satis"action o" the spirit5 which is the deepest
being o" man5 lies only in the pursuit o" the ideal. ith all progress that humanity
makes5 idealism neglected will show at each step towards progress a great lack5
and nothing can substitute that lack. -" there is anything that "ills the gap5 i" there is
anything that makes a bridge between 2od and man5 it is the ideal.
)n ideal is something to hope "or and to hold on to5 and in the absence o" an idealhope has nothing to look "orward to. -t is the lack o" idealism which accounts "or thepresent degeneration o" humanity in spite o" all the progress it has made in otherdirections. 4here are many kinds o" ideals: principles5 virtues5 objects o" devotion6but the greatest and highest o" all ideals is the 2od!ideal. )nd when this 2od!ideal
upon which all other ideals are based is lost5 then the very notion o" ideal isignored. _an needs many things in li"e5 but his greatest need is an ideal.
-- an-Nahl The Bee 16:121 as rendered by Yusuf Ali-" a man is standing on a staircase and remains on the "irst step5 he may be a believer but he is notgoing up. 4hus there are many believers who have a certain conception o" 2od5 but they arestanding there without moving5 while perhaps a person who has no conception o" 2od at all may bemoving. 4here are thousands o" people who pronounce the name o" 2od many times during theday5 but who are perhaps most wretched. 4he reason is that they have not yet discovered thepurpose o" the 2od!ideal. -t is not merely belie"6 belie" is only the "irst step. 2od is the key to truth52od is the stepping!stone to sel"!reali8ation5 2od is the bridge which unites the outer li"e with theinner li"e5 bringing about per"ection. -t is by understanding this that the secret o" the 2od!ideal is to
be reali8ed.4he 2od!ideal is so tremendous that men can never comprehend it "ully5 there"ore the best method
adopted by the wise is to allow every man to make his own 2od. -n this way he "orms whatever
conception he is capable o" "orming. 3e makes 3im ^ing o" the heavens and o" the earth6 he
makes 3im judge5 greater than all judges6 he makes 3im )lmighty5 having all power6 he makes 3im
the possessor o" all grace and glory6 he makes 3im the beloved 2od5 merci"ul and compassionate6
he recogni8es in 3im providence5 support5 and protection6 and in 3im he recogni8es all per"ection.
4his ideal becomes a stepping!stone to the higher knowledge o" 2od.

4o learn the lesson o" how to live is more important than any psychic or occult
