Above 600 NCC cadets of dif- ferent age groups actively and enthusiastically participated and gained the pros of this event. NCC officers and teachers lend their hand in support of the AOL team and made this event a success. Highlights of the yoga work- shop included yog asans, medita- tion, knowledge sharing, suryana- maskar, nadi shodhan, pranamyam, bhastrika and interactive sessions with teachers and volunteers of AOL. Delair Singh, senior teacher and DTC of the Art of Living Jammu Chapter guided the shivir with the help of their volunteers namely Priyanka Sharma, Rajat Sharma, Chetan Sharma and Kishore who helped the teacher as well as the budding cadets with asanas and boost their energy levels. In the camp, the NCC Cadets were also taught concentration techniques by way of meditation for a relaxed and stress-free mind. They were also taught yoga and pranayam techniques for a better physical and mental health. JWAM activists protest against PHE, PDD Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, July 24: The activists of Jammu West Assembly Movement (JWAM) today held protest demonstration against PDD and PHE authorities and blocked New Plot- Janipur Road for some time. The JWAM workers led by its president Sunil Dimple assembled on the road at Rodian- Di- Chhapri and started protest demonstration. They alleged that there is massive power curtailment, especially dur- ing the night hours and the con- cerned PDD staff did not pick up the phone at the time of crisis. Even the Phones of Linemen to JE and AE, AEE, Executive Engineer etc remain non-responsive. They also shouted slogans again DyCM Dr Nirmal Singh, holding the portfolio of PDD and the Chief Engineer PDD,M&RE Jammu. They demanded 50 MWT receiving power station at Janipur. The JWAM activists were also carrying empty buckets in their hands during the protest. They shouted loud slogans against BJP Ministers from Jammu and Minister for PHE Sham Choudhary. They alleged that for the last several weeks, the water supply in most parts of Jammu West has been badly affected. There is no alternative tanker sup- ply by the PHE City Division and the officers at the helm affairs are unable to tackle the problems. Worst affected is the Jammu City West and the rural belt. Sunil Dimple alleged that PHE and ERA authorities are deliberately harassing the people and damaging old pipes, so that people are forced to shift to the new ERA pipes by paying Rs 3500 as additional amount. He said that Govt is getting water tar- iff from the public and they should shifted these connections free of cost. He appealed to the people to launch a collective movement and agitation as the Govt was harass- ing deliberately. He alleged that the Govt has failed to provide free drinking water to the public. Sugar of 45 lakh consumers has also been stopped. Power supply is also inadequate while fatty bills are being sent to the consumers. Shiv Sena activists taking out protest march at Samba on Monday. Shiv Sena protests, seeks withdrawal of Toll Tax Excelsior Correspondent SAMBA, July 24: The activists of Shiv Sena (Bal Thackery) held strong protest at Samba town and blocked National Highway for some time here today. On the directions of the State chief of party Dimpy Kohli and Manish Sahni ( general secretary), the Shiv Sena activists led by Samba district president Ramesh Gupta started protest rally and demonstration against the State authorities seeking withdrawal of Toll Tax at Lakhanpur and Lower Munda. They were carrying Sena flags and placards in hands. Shiv Sainiks were shouting slogans in support of their demands and also disrupted traffic movement for some time on busy Jammu- Pathankot National Highway. Later, the highway was cleared with the intervention of local police. On the occasion, Shiv Sena activists demanded that Govt must stop charging Toll Tax at Lakhanpur Check Post and also announce special financial pack- age for business community in Jammu & Kashmir which is suf- fering badly due to various rea- sons. They said that Government is sleeping and is not taking any interest in the demands which people are raising on day today basis. They said that Government must awake before it is too, late. They said though GST has been implemented but still tax on petrol prices is 56% which should be reduced to 28% according to One Nation One Tax law. Fukki recovered in Budgam, Baramulla: 2 held Excelsior Correspondent SRINAGAR, July 24: Police today said that it recovered a large quantity of Fukki in Budgam and Baramulla district and detained two persons. A police spokesman said that on a tip off, the police inter- cepted a truck bearing registra- tion number JK02AD-6027 at Nambalhar village of Kremshore in Khansahaba area of Budgam district. “On its checking, police recovered 13 bags of Fukki. Two persons who were travelling in the vehicle were taken into custody,” he said, adding that they have been identified as Nazir Ahmad Wani and Shakeel Ahmad Bhat. “A case under FIR number 67/17 under section 8/15 NDPS Act has been registered and fur- ther investigation has been taken up,” the spokesman said, adding following a tip off, police raided a residential house at Goshbugh at Pattan in Baramulla district and recov- ered huge quantity of Fukki. A case has been registered in this regard and investigation is on, he added. Meanwhile, police said that it destroyed huge bhang cultiva- tion near Kachkoot village of Awantipora in Pulwama district. “The locals of the area also par- ticipated in the drive. The locals of the area have appreciated the police drive,” the police spokesman added. Teacher's house burgled in Kalakote Excelsior Correspondent RAJOURI, July 24: Some unknown thieves barged into the house of a Government teacher and decamped with some gold ornaments and cash in Kalakote area last night. A police spokesman said that the incident took place in the house of Master Shamsher Singh at village Jigni, under Kalakote Police jurisdiction. The family was sleeping in the other room while the thieves broke opened the door and entered the house. The family was fast asleep and had kept desert cooler on. Due to the noise of cooler, the thieves took advantage, executed their bur- glary and decamped with 10 Tola gold ornaments and Rs 65,000 cash from their Almirah. The family came to know about the matter only in the morning. They informed police. The neighbours also rushed to their house after coming to know about the matter. The police examined the site of inci- dent and then started investiga- tion. A case was registered in this connection. Woman found hanging with tree Excelsior Correspondent UDHAMPUR, July 24: In mysterious circumstances, the body of a woman was found hang- ing with a tree in Kultyar area. "A housewife identified as Nishu Devi (20) wife of Pawan Kumar, resident of Kultyar, tehsil and district Udhampur, was found hanged mysteriously on a tree, about 300 feet away from her in- laws's house", a police spokesman said. He said that the body of the deceased woman was shifted to PHC Panchari, where after com- pleting all medico-legal formali- ties it was handed over to her legal heirs for last rites. "A case in this regard under section 174 CRPC was registered at police station Panchari and inquiry initiated", he added. Woman dies due to electric current Excelsior Correspondent RAMBAN, July 24: A lady died after coming in contact with live wire in her house at village Badli, falling under the jurisdic- tion of Dhramkund police station, a police official said. The deceased has been identi- fied as Zahoora Begum, wife of Mohammad Abad, a resident of village Badli. The body of the deceased has been handed over to family mem- bers for last rites after completing legal formalities. Dhramkund police had taken cognizance in this regard. 7 gamblers arrested Excelsior Correspondent SRINAGAR, July 24: Police today said that it arrested seven gamblers and recovered stake money from three gambling places in summer capital here. A police spokesman said that police raided a gambling place and arrested three people while gambling. “They were identified as Muzafar Ahmad, Mohammad Iqbal khan, Ashiq Hussain. The stake money of Rupees 3100 was recovered from the gam- bling site,” he said. The spokesman said that police raided a gambling place in Parimpora area and arrested two gamblers. “They were iden- tified as Fazil Ahmad Khan and Gowhar Ahmad Bhat. The stake money of Rupees 1200 was recovered from the gambling site,” he added. The spokesman said that in another raid, police apprehended two gamblers near Pinchimandi in Safa Kadal area in an open public place. “The stake money of Rupees 14000 was recovered from the gambling place. Three separate cases have been regis- tered against these gamblers and further investigation is on,” he added.
