Our iDEC News team led by Ms. Sutcliffe, along with their student and staff guests do an amazing job sharing important stories about learning, special events and simply celebrating our great school. A most significant and thoughtful part of this iDEC News edition is the first story about Tuesday’s Orange Shirt Day and the strong connection our Gr. 4 classes have made to Indigenous culture through their inquiry. This week iDEC continues to be filled with special actions classes are taking to honour those who suffered trauma and harm at the former residential school in Kamloops. Our parent volunteers ensured students received a ticket every time they walked or biked to school. Our CPAC Traffic Committee received a special grant after completing a grant application last month. This grant provided funds to support these prizes students can win in Monday’s Draw: bike pump, water bottle, headlamps, bike lock, bike bell or a sport bandana. Sports Day! This year we are gearing up for a fun iDEC Sports Day. To accommodate for our COVID restrictions we have created an exciting 2 day Sports Day Lite event. Ms. Lapinskie has created a schedule that spans two mornings on June 9 and 10 for our Primary (K-3) and Intermediate (4-7) classes respectfully. On Friday June 11th we will all celebrate Sports Day with a slideshow and video together in our classes before the early dismissal. Here are some helpful details about next week’s Sports Day: You child’s Sports Day team colour can be found here . Each division has been assigned to a team for Sports Day. If you have any questions regarding iDEC Band for next year please contact Mr. Santos directly [email protected] Class Placement Input - Optional In June each year, we begin the process of planning for the next school year. As enrolment changes always happen over the next few months, our planning needs to remain flexible and will not be finalized until September. Our class placement process ensures that thoughtful consideration of each child’s social, emotional and academic needs is aligned with the need to create balanced and effective learning environments across all divisions. The assignment of students to classes is decided collaboratively by our iDEC team which includes your child’s current teacher, non-enrolling teachers, support staff and the administrators. If there is information that you feel the principal should consider when placing your child, parents may wish to complete the Optional Placement Input Form. Please note that it is not necessary to complete this form. Again, many hours and great care is taken with regard to the placement of every child in order to honour their individual learning style and create the best learning environment for all children. If you would like to share your input with regards to your child’s placement next year, please complete the Student placement Input Form 2021-22 from our website and email it to [email protected] by Monday, June 7th. It is not necessary to complete, but if you have input you would like us to consider, this process is an effective communication tool. In order for our iDEC team to follow the planning timeline we cannot consider late submissions. Bike and Walk to School Week was our highest rate of participation in recent history. Over the course of the week we are on target to reach 400 participants over 5 days. Some of our students walked or cycled all 5 days, which = 5 chances to win in Monday’s BTSW draw. 400 participants represents 80 students per day. In fact, on Tuesday and Wednesday we had our biggest turn outs ever with 81 and 86 ticket entries which = 22% of our student population participating on each of those days. This week Caulfeild iDEC joined the West Vancouver Schools Track and Field Week and participated in a variety of run, jump and throw events. From the 200m, to running long jump, to accuracy tosses our Bears were out getting active and achieving personal bests in the sunshine. As part of Track and Field Week the WVS District Harry Jerome Poster Contest was also a big success. From all our local schools there were over 200 entries! The judges, Superintendent Kennedy and Board Chair Broady, were very impressed and had a lot of fun judging some creative posters. We are very proud and excited to share our very own Tutu C. from Division 10 was the winner of the Primary Division and received a gift bag for her wonderful poster that demonstrated respect and pride. Remember B.Y.O.M As Students in Grade 4 to 7 are required to wear a mask at school please ensure that your child comes to school with a mask every day. We still have far too many students coming to the office for a mask. Please have your children keep spare masks in their backpacks at all times as this will help eliminate the excess and unnecessary waste the disposable masks are creating. Let’s work together to keep our school safe and green!

2021-22 School CalendarOur final 2021-22 iDEC School Calendar is now available. For your convenience our school website

calendar will also be updated with these 2021-22 dates in the coming days.

Beginning Summer Break Early? We have many wonderful activities planned for the last few weeks of classes, culminating in an exciting End of School Year assembly on the last day of school. We hope that all of our students will be in attendance for the entire month of June. However, we are aware that some families may chose to begin their summer break early. If this is the case, please ensure to notify the school office of your plans [email protected], thank you.

Every Child Matters

Dear Parents,

In light of the tragic news regarding the burial of children on the grounds of the former residential school in Kamloops, we as many, are absolutely sickened by this news. We wish first to express our deepest and sincerest condolences to the generations of families who have been affected and live with unthinkable grief as a result.

There have been multiple activities within the school to educate our children about these horrific events. If you feel like you want to do something to show your support of our Indigenous community and to help the survivors, you can make a personal donation to the IRSSS (Indigenous Residential School Survivors Society) here. No donation is too small to help our friends in our community.

Sincerely, your CPAC

Community Engagement

We have been also meeting and greeting record numbers of walkers and bike/scooter riders every morning during this Bike/Walk to School Week. Good luck to all the participating students on winning some awesome prizes!
