INDIA

Indian equity benchmarks bounced back on Tuesday, with surging 149 points on the Sensex led by globalsupport and some short covering after fell in previous three sessions on rate hike fears, Middle East tensionsand likely drop in RIL gas production. However, it slipped a bit from day's high as there were reports thatLibyan Leader Gaddafi's forces attacked Libyan town of Zintan using heavy weapons. The 50-share NSENifty gained 49 points, to close at 5,414, added support by oil &gas, infrastructure, auto, realty, metal, telecom and select financial companies' The Mid-Cap and Small-Capstocks were also in demand. up by 0.50 and 0.80% respectively.

Market breadth was positive, 1555 stocks advanced for 1294 stocks which declined.

GLOBAL MARKETS

U.S. stocks fell, sending the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index lower for the first time in four days, as oil rose amidunrest in Libya and concern grew that Europe won’t find an immediate solution to its debt crisis. The S&P500 retreated 0.34 percent to 1,294. . The gauge had rallied 3.3 percent over the previous three sessions.The Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.15 percent, to 12,018.

Asian markets have opened up on a negative note Nikkei is down by 1.30%, Hang Seng is down by 0.40%.

The Karnataka government yesterday said it will allot 1,500 acres land to world's largest steel makerArcelorMittal within a month to set up a 6 million tonne per annum (MTPA) steel plant.

Lanco Infratech yesterday reported that it has emerged as the largest independent power producer inIndia with an installed capacity of 3292 megawatts.

Garware Offshore Services Ltd has announced on Tuesday that the vessel M. V. Beaucephalus' ownedby the Company's wholly Owned Subsidiary, viz., Global Offshore Services P. V. (the Netherlands) hasbeen awarded a 4 year contract in Brazil. The approximate annual value of the contract stands at Rs.490mn.

Patel Engineering has bagged a road construction contract worth Rs. 160.69 crore from the stategovernment of Karnataka.

PSL reported that the company's unit at Sharjah has received a contract worth about $80 million fromthe Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for supply of bare line pipes.

The Munjal family promoted Hero Group has increased its shareholding in Hero Honda Motors Ltd. to52.21% by buying a 26% stake from Japan's Honda Motor Co.

Kotak Realty Fund, the property investment arm of India's Kotak Mahindra Bank, plans to raise as muchas $500 million by the second quarter of this year, in a bet on the long term case for property in India.

The country's largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) yesterday said it will consider taking differentmeasures after April to protect its margins due to fluctuation of Japanese yen, post the devastatingearthquake and tsunami.

Drugmaker Elder Pharmaceuticals plans to raise Rs 105 crore through seven-year bonds at 11.25%.

Edinburgh-based Cairn Energy Plc yesterday reported record revenues on the back of higher outputfrom its Indian unit where it is selling majority stake to mining group Vedanta Resources.The companysaid it was confident of winning government approval for the sale of up to 51% stake in Cairn India to theLondon-listed mining group.Revenues in full year 2010 surged to $1.6 billion as compared to $234million in the previous year.

Steel pipemaker Jindal Saw Ltd is in talks to acquire a logistic firm that operatescontainer trains and owns terminals for about Rs 100-150 crore and expects to close thedeal in three months, its Managing Director, Indresh Batra said on Tuesday.

Indian paper producer BILT Paper Plc plans to raise at least $330 million from a Londonlisting to fund its expansion and pay down debt.BILT Paper, a unit of India's largestpaper maker Ballarpur Industries, has increased its paper production capacity by nearly90% over the last two years and plans to grow it by another 50% by the end of 2014.

Vedanta Group firm Sesa Goa said that it had acquired the assets of the upcomingsteel plant of Bellary Steel and Alloys, put on the block by a consortium of lenders ledby IFCI for Rs 220 crore.

Cairn Energy expects to receive approval from the government for a long-delayed dealto sell a stake in its Indian unit, the UK explorer said on Tuesday, as it announced aswing to annual profit.Cairn agreed seven months ago to sell up to 51% in Cairn Indiato Vedanta Resources for up to $9.6 billion.

Mundra Port and Special Economic Zone (MPSEZ), top private multi-portoperator, has secured a bid to develop a coal import terminal at Visakhapatnam. Theterminal will be built at cost of over Rs 300 cr.This marks the entry of MPSEZ on theeastern coast of the India.
