SRINAGAR, Sept 29: J&KBank has offered contractualappointments to 378 remainingleftover shortlisted candidates inthe cadre of Banking Associates.This is in continuation to thebank's commitment of providingemployment opportunities to theyouth of State immediately asand when vacancies are created.

The Bank had earlier in themonth of March issued itsRelationship Executive (RE)selection list of 350 candidatesalong with 1250 contractualappointment offers to left overshortlisted candidates againstavailable vacancies in BankingAssociate cadre. Among theoffered 1250 Banking Associatepositions, only 872 candidatesjoined and remained with theBank hence leaving 378 vacantpositions in the cadre.

The Board of the Bank hadearlier decided not to offer thesevacancies to the remaining inorder of merit left over shortlist-ed candidates in the concludedselection process. HoweverChief Minister's desire inresponse to the persistentrequests to her from these candi-dates to explore avenues fortheir deserving induction keep-ing in view the unemployment

scenario and their long wait fortheir selection owing to delay inthe process and the manpowershortage derailing the exigentprojects of National importancelike Aadhaar facilitation, GSTand Digitization coupled withhighly time consuming availablealternative of fresh selectionprocess led the Board to reviewits decision and allowed theBank to fill the vacancies fromthe leftover shortlisted candi-dates in order of merit and othernecessary criteria followed inthe process.

Chairman and CEO, ParvezAhmed while deliberating on thedevelopment expressed his satis-faction on the timely Boardapproval for filling these vacan-cies. He further informed thatthough this timely intake ofaround 378 qualified young menwill augment the human capitalof the bank to handle the shortterm exigent challenges, yet theunder preparation Business Planof three to five years will neces-sitate recruitments in much morenumbers.

"We are quite hopeful of liv-ing right up to the expectationsof educated State youth. We willmake regular and most soughtafter employment offers to themin reasonable numbers and willcontinue to remain secondlargest employer of the Stateafter Government of Jammu andKashmir with improved intakeafter every recruitment period",he said and further reiteratedthat empowerment by employ-ment for educated youth isembedded in the mission of thebank.

SRINAGAR, Sept 29: TheGrand Mufti of Syria, Dr. AhmadBader Eddin Mohammad AdibHassoun called on the ChiefMinister, Mehbooba Mufti heretoday.

During the meeting, the twoleaders discussed several issues

confronting the Muslim ummahand the need to weed out the cultof violence from the Muslim soci-ety. They also underscored theneed for inculcating values ofpeace, tolerance and coexistenceamong the younger generation.

The two leaders alsoexchanged ideas on education,social system, history and welfareof the Muslim ummah and theneed for an effective inter faithcommunication to spread themessage of Islam.

Mehbooba Mufti informedDr. Adib Hassoun of varioussocio developmental initiativesundertaken by her Government inthe State including the educationand empowerment of women.

The Chief Minister invited theGrand Mufti and his delegation tovisit the State again for exhaus-tive sessions with the ulema, localreligious scholars and academi-

9-day long Durga Pooja culminates with immersion of Saakh in rivers

JAMMU, Sept 29: The nine -day long Sharad Navratra festival(Durga Pooja) culminates onMahanavmi today with immer-sion of Saakh in various rivers bythe devotees across the Jammuregion.

There was heavy rush of thedevotees from early in the morn-ing on the banks of river Tawi,Chenab in Akhnoor and on banksof Ranbir Canal at various placesin Jammu.

The immersion of Saakh start-ed soon after performance ofKanjak pooja by the devotees inthe morning and it continued upto late evening hours.

The devotees including men,women and children performedpooja at river banks before theimmersion of Saakh in the waterand there was a festive look allaround. At various places thedevotees in big processions tookSaakh for immersion. They werereciting bhajans in praise ofGoddess Durga.

In Jammu, there was a heavyrush of devotees for immersion ofSaakh at Bikram Chowk, andHarki Puri near Bawe on thebanks of river Tawi, Ranbir canaland Tawi canal, Akhnoor Ghat onthe bank of river Chenab, bank ofriver Ravi in Basholi and other

villages, banks of Kathua canaland other canals, on the banks ofriver Ujh, Basanter and othersmall rivers.

During the nine- day of DurgaPooja the devotees remained onfast worshiping Saakh dailywhich was sown by them in thesmall pots in their houses. On theculmination day of the festival onMahanavmi today, the devoteesperformed Kanjak poojan byworshiping nine girls manifestingthe nine forms of Goddess Durgabefore the immersion of Saakh in

rivers.This was followed by distri-

bution of prashad among thedevotees. Besides, hawans were

also performed in various templeson the culmination of DurgaPooja today. The hawans startedyesterday evening and culminat-ed with pooran ahuti and servingof prashad to devotees this after-noon.

During the nine-day long fes-tival there was a heavy rush ofdevotees in various temples topay obeisance of the Goddess.They visited Kali Mata TempleBawe, Jammu, Chichi Mata tem-ple, Samba, Sukhrala MataBillawar, Bal Sundri Mata,Shailputri Mata temple Ambica

Vihar Gole Gujral etc. On the cul-mination day of the festival todaya beeline of devotees was alsoseen in these temples who hadcome from different parts of theState and neighboring States ofHimachal and Punjab to performpooja archana of Goddess andseek blessings.

The authorities and the localtemple management committeeshad also made elaborate arrange-ments for the devotees visitingthese shrines and temples duringthe festival days.

Navratra festival was alsocelebrated at Pushkara SwamiSewa Ashram, Laxmi PuramChinore , Najab Garh Delhi withfull religious fervor and gaiety.Large number of devoteesattended the function and bhajanand Kirtan in praise of Goddesswere recited by the devotees. Onthe occasion flag hoisting wasperformed by A K Hali chairmanof the Ashram.

The nine -day long spiritualactivity in connection with cele-bration of Navratra festival con-cluded at Bhagawaan Gopinath JiAshram Udaywala today.Hundreds of devotes thronged theAshram from September 21, toSeptember 29 -the Navratra daysto participate in the spiritual activ-ity. During the nine -days longreligious programme three croremantras were recited. A hawanwas also performed which startedyesterday evening and culminatedthis afternoon. This was followedwith serving of prashad to devo-tees.

SRINAGAR, Sept 29: Over220 youth from Jammu andKashmir today donned oliveuniform and took oath to serveand defend nation at a colorfulpassing out parade ceremony.

A defence spokesman said226 young soldiers from J&Kpassed out from Jammu andKashmir Light Infantry (JAKLI)Regimental Centre at Rangrethon city outskirts.

The passing out parade,depicting graduation of aRecruit and his transformationinto a young soldier, wasreviewed by CommandantJAKLI Centre Brigadier SGChavan and was attended byover 1000 parents and relativesof young soldiers from J&Kbesides number of civil and mil-itary dignitaries, the spokesmansaid.

"The dauntless young sol-diers of the Regiment hailingfrom all regions and religions ofthe State of J&K, marching inprecise unison with a singularaim of devoting their lives inservice of their nation, singingtheir Regimental Song'Balidanam Veer Lakshnam',inspired one and all as their

JAMMU, Sept 29: TheDirector General Accounts andTreasuries, Finance Department,has impressed upon all theDepartments/Drawing &Disbursing Officers to immedi-ately stop the incorrect practiceof preparation of AbstractContingent (AC)/ White DetailedContingent (WDC) & Grant-in-Aid (GIA) Bills in contraventionof Codal Provisions and ensurestrict adherence to the prescribedprocedure with regard toaccounting of contingent expen-diture of which vouchers can notbe readily obtained before pay-ment.

According to a circular, theadoption of correct Codal proce-dure in the submission ofAC/WDC/GIA Bills by the cor-rect Codal procedure in the sub-mission of AC/WDC/GIA Billsby the department concerned willensure that contingent expendi-ture do not get booked under`Suspense) by the AG and bill notreturned to the Department con-cerned for want of correct Codalprocedure.

In view of adoption of incor-rect procedures in the prepara-tion of Abstract Contingent(AC)/WDC and GIA bills in con-travention of Codal provisions,the contingent expenditure onthe said account remain under`Suspense' till the bills are resentto the Accountant General by theconcerned authorities after fol-lowing correct Codal procedure.
