The size of the service cable shall be based upon the recommendations given in

this standard.

All terminations and splices shall comply with section "B" of this standards book for

extruded dielectric cables and with section "C" of this standards book for PILC

cables.

2.3 GROUNDING AND BONDING REQUIREMENTS

All primary service ducts shall be rigid type conduits with sealed factory bends and fittings.

Sealed thoroughly with duct seal (Stock No. 141-1345) at the closest practical point of

cable entry into a building. Alternatively mechanical or inflatable duct seals may be used

as shown on ES53 H3-01.

All materials and methods of installation shall comply with "BC Hydro Requirements for

Primary Substations Supplied at 12kV and 25kV".

All service cable accessory grounds shall be connected as per this standard.

Daisy-chaining of ground/neutral leads is not permitted. Ground leads shall not,

under any circumstances, be sized smaller than given in this standard.

The BC Hydro service neutral (where present) shall be connected as per this

standard.

Grounding ball studs are required as per "BC Hydro Requirements for Primary

Substations Supplied at 12kV and 25kV". See note 3 on page 7 for more information.

Cable Data

Conductors have been sized to 125% of unit substation rating. Cable ampacities are based

on BC Hydro Standard ES53 U1-01 R4.

A separate neutral conductor is required when 500kcm conductor service cable is used,

as per BC Hydro Standard ES53 R5-01. Separate neutrals are not required for #1 AWG

and 4/0 AWG conductors as these cables are concentric neutral construction.

PILC -

Extruded Dielectric - Assembly shall be as per Detail 4 of this standard. Ground studs

are mandatory. In new installations, all necessary ball studs

should be pre-installed by the customer. For existing installations,

where ground studs are not present, they may be installed as per

ES53 B5-02 or B5-05.
