When using an electrical appliance, basic safety precautions should always befollowed, including the following:Read all instructions before using this household sewing machine

DANGER To reduce the risk ofelectric shock: A sewing machine should never be left unattended when plugged in. Always unplug

the sewing machine from the electric outlet immediately after using and beforecleaning.

Always unplug before relamping. Replace bulb with same type rated 15 Watts.

WARNING To reduce the risk of

burns, fire, electric shock, or injury topersons: Do not allow to be used as a toy. Close attention is necessary when used by or near

children. Use only for its intended use as described in this manual. Use only attachments

recommended by the manufacturer as contained in this manual. Never operate this sewing machine if it has a damaged cord or plug, if it is not

working properly, if it has been dropped or damaged, or dropped into water. Returnit to the nearest authorized dealer or service center for examination, repair, electrical

or mechanical adjustment. Never operate the sewing machine with any air openings blocked. Keep ventilation

openings of the sewing machine and foot controller free from the accumulation oflint, dust, and loose cloth.

Keep fingers away from all moving parts. Special care is required around the sewingmachine needle.

Always use the proper needle plate. The wrong plate can cause the needle to break. Do not use bent needles. Do not pull or push the fabric while stitching. It may deflect the needle causing it to

break. Switch the sewing machine off (0) when making any adjustments in the needle

area, such as threading needle, changing needle, threading bobbin, or changingpresser foot, etc.

Always unplug the sewing machine from electrical outlet when removing covers,or when making any other user servicing adjustments mentioned in the instructionmanual. No lubrication by customer is recommended.

Never drop or insert any object into any opening. Do not use outdoors. Do not operate where aerosol (spray) products are being used or where oxygen is

being administrated. To disconnect, turn the switch off (0), then remove plug from outlet. Do not unplug by pulling on cord. To unplug, grasp the plug, not the cord.

Unpacking1. Place the machine on the table or cabinet

and lift off the cover.2. The foot control is stored at one of the

side parts of the packing material. Pressthe foot control together and remove it.

3. The machine is delivered with a plasticcover, an accessory bag, a main cord anda foot control cord.

4. Wipe the machine, particularly around theneedle and needle plate to remove anysoil before sewing.

5. Remove the protection film from the stitchpanel and the name plate.

4. Lower the presser foot.

5. Place the foot control, underside towardyou, on the accessory tray at the backof the machine. Fold up the handle andreplace the cover.

Connecting the foot

control

Among the accessories you will find the foot con-trol cord and the main cord.1. Remove the foot control cord. Place the foot

control on its narrow side. Fit the plug into thesocket inside the foot control compartment.2. Push it firmly to make sure it is properly

con-nected. This operation is only necessarythe very first time you are going to use themachine.

3. To correctly turn away the cord, place it intothe slot, see picture.

Note: Before plugging in, check to ensure thatthe foot control is of type FR2.

Connecting to thepower supplyOn the underside of themachine you will findinformation about thepower supply (V) and thefrequency (Hz). Check thepower supply setting in themachine to ensure that this

agrees with the main supplybefore you connect themachine.1. Connect the foot control

cord to the first socket onthe bottom right side of the machine.

2. Connect the main cord to the back socket onthe bottom right side of the machine.

3. When you press the power switch, both themachine and the light are switched on.

For the USA and CanadaThis Sewing Machine has a polarized plug (oneblade wider than the other). To reduce the riskof electric shock, this plug is intended to fit in apolarized outlet only one way. If the plug does notfit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still doesnot fit, contact a qualified electrician to install theproper outlet. Do not modify the plug in any way.

Accessory box

1. Open the Accessory box by placing yourfinger in the space on the top and lift

upward.2. In the Accessory box there is a specialtray for presser feet and bobbins plusspace for other accessories.

3. Store the presser feet and the bobbins inthe tray from the beginning so they are al-

ways easily accessible (refer to the figure).

Extended sewing

surface1. Slide the Accessory Tray onto the machine

to provide a larger flat work surface.2. Slide the Accessory Tray to the left when

you wish to remove it and use the freearm.

3. To facilitate sewing trouser legs and sleevehems use the free arm. The free arm alsoallows you to darn socks (darning foot isan accessory).

4. To replace the Accessory Tray, slide ittight onto the machine.

An extension table is also available as anaccessory to provide an even larger worksurface.

Spool pin

The machine has spool pins suitable for alltypes of thread. One of the spool pins (a) isadjustable the thread reels off the stationaryspool. Place the spool so that the thread reelscounter-clockwise.

There are two spool holders on the spoolpin. With narrow thread spools, the smallholder (b) is placed in front of the thread. If

you use large thread spools, the large holder(c) is placed in front of the thread.Slide the correct size spool holder in placeso the flat side is pressed firmly against thespool. No space between spool holder andspool.

There is also a separate spool pin (d) to beattached onto the machine. The fingers on theextra spool pin fit into the two holes to theright of the fixed spool pin. Push downwardto snap in place.

The large spool holder (c) is placed under thethread. This spool pin is used when windinga bobbin from a second spool of thread or

for a second spool when sewing with a twinneedle.

Make sure the presser foot is raised and theneedle is in the up position

1. Pull the spool pin out. Place the threadon the spool pin and the spool holderon the spool pin as described. Push thespool pin back in.

2. Bring the thread in the direction of thearrow under the thread guide (a) andover the thread guide (b).

3. Bring the thread down between thethread tension discs.

4. Continue threading by drawing the threadfrom the right into the slot on the take-uplever.

5. Thread last guide just above needle.6. The needle is threaded from front to

back. The white on the presser footankle makes it easy to see the eye of theneedle.

7. Place thread under the presser foot and

into the thread knife where it is cut.

Bobbin winding with

the machine threaded

Make sure that the presser foot is up and theneedle is in the highest position.Note! Do not use a plastic presser foot when

bobbin winding.1. Place your empty bobbin with the small mark

outwards on the bobbin spindle on thefront of the machine. Bring the bobbin spindledown.

2. Pull the thread from the needle under the press-ser foot and to the right over the thread guide(c).

3. Start from above and wind a few turns ofthread around the bobbin. Cut off the threadon the thread knife (d).

4. Press the foot control. When the bobbin win-ding is finished, remove the bobbin, cut off the

thread and bring the bobbin spindle up.Note!We do not recommend winding specialty th-reads such as clear nylon or other stretchy threadsthrough the needle. Instead see Bobbin winding vertical spool pin.

1. Place an empty bobbinwith the mark out-wards on the bobbinspindle and bring itdown.

2. Place the large spoolholder under the threadon the spool pin.

3. Bring the thread under the threadguide (a) and over thread guide(b), further under thread guide (c).

4. From above wind a few turns of threadaround the bobbin and into the knife.

You can adjust the thread tension by turningthe dial which is numbered. The higher thenumber the tighter the tension. Normal thread

tension is number 4.

When sewing buttonholes and decorativestitches set thread tension to number 3.

When topstitching with a coarse thread inthick fabric, increase the tension to 7-9.

To understand the correct thread tension, sewa few sample stitches at different settings.

1. Begin with a tension that is too loose, i.e.set at 1. The lower thread will lie straightand the upper thread will be drawn downon the underside.

2. If you set the tension at the highest num-ber, the opposite will occur, and the seammay pucker.

3. The correct thread tension is providedwhen the threads interlock in the middleof both layers of material or, in the case ofdecorative stitches, on the underside.

Make a few tests on a scrap piece of thematerial you are going to sew and check thetension.

Tambin se puede modificar la tensin delhilo girando el mando de regulacin de latensin . La ten-sin normal del hilo es 4.

Para comprobar cual debe ser la tensincorrecta del hilo, realizar varias costuras,

modificando en cada una la tensin.1. Comenzar con una tensin muy floja, o

sea, ajusta la tensin a 1. El hilo inferiorest tenso mientras el hilo superior arrugael tejido en la parte inferior.

2. Si se ajusta la tensin en el nmero msalto se obtendr un efecto contrario, esdecir, el tejido se arrugar.

3. La tensin correcta se obtiene cuando launin se produce en la mitad de las doscapas de tejido; o bien en la parte inferior

al coser costuras decorativas.Siempre hacer una prueba en un trozo delgnero igual al que se desee coser y controlarla tensin de los hilos.

Your machine will sew all the stitches pictu-red on the front. The stitch is set by turning

the stitch selector the upper dial. A coloredmarker lines up while turning the stitch selec-tor, showing which stitch is set.Check that the needle is in its highest positionbefore you turn the stitch selector.The lower dial is to ajdust the stitch length.The stitches are divided into two groups. For-

ward motion and trimotion stitches. The stitchlength for the left group, forward motionstitches, can be varied between 0 and 6 andthe width between 0-5.5.

Recommendations for the suggested stitchlength are given next to the stitches.

When you wish to use one of the stitches inthe right group, the trimotion stitches, youturn the stitch length dial to the left until itreaches the area . The stitch lengthis set for these stitches. The stitch width canbe set between 0-5.5.There are letters between the stitch pictures

which indicate the most suitable presser footfor each stitch. The letter is also marked onthe presser foot.

Stitch width Amplitud de puntada

When you select a stitch the machine auto-

matically sets the best stitch width. By turningthe stitch width dial (placed inside the stitchselector) you can change the stitch width. The

width is numbered 0-5.5.By setting the stitch width dial at 2.5 you canhalve the width of the stitches. Most of thestitches will then get a different look and youhave a selection of new stitches.

1. Set the stitch length dial to button-hole symbol. Set the stitch selector tobuttonhole, symbol 1. Sew until yourstitching reaches the line on the foot

that matched your button.

2. Turn to symbol 2-4. Now the mach-ine will stitch the bartack. Sew threeor four stitches.

3. Turn to symbol 3. Sew the other co-lumn the same length as the first one.

4. Turn back to symbol 2-4. The mach-ine will stitch the final bartack. Sew

three or four stitches. Turn the stitchwidth dial to 0 and lock the threadswith a few stitches.

You will now see the screw used to adjustbalance. Use the screwdriver included with

your attachments.

Sewing zippers

The zipper foot E can be snapped on so thatit is located either to the right or to the left ofthe needle, making it easy to sew both sides

of the zipper. To sew the other side of thezipper, reposition the zipper foot.

1. Sew the seam together to thebottom of the zipper placket.Baste the rest of the seam.Leave about 2 cm open atthe top. Press seam open.

Set the needle to the rightposition.

2. Place presser foot E to theleft of the needle. From the

wrong side fold the fabricto one side so both seamallowances are free. Foldand press the left allowanceunder approximately 0.5 cmfrom the basted seam.

3. Place the zipper under the folded seamallowance with the teeth as near to thefold as possible and stitch zipper to fabricclose to fold. Begin sewing at the bottomof the zipper. Before reaching the zipperpull, lift the presser foot and slide the zip-per pull down past the zipper foot. Lowerthe foot and sew to the top of the zipper.

Begin stitching across the bottom andcontinue upwards. Remove the basting.

If you want to sew a gentlemans zipper,follow the instructions but insert in the otherdirection.

Reinforced straight

stitch

Turn the stitch length dial to the areato sew reinforced straight stitch

. This stitch is stronger than ordinarystraight stitch, due to the fact that it is a tripleand elastic stitch.

The reinforced straight stitch can be used forheavy stretch fabrics, for crotch seams whichare subject to considerable strain and fortopstitching in heavy fabrics.

OvercastingThree-step zigzag is suitable for over-casting most fabrics. Trim the edges of thefabric before over casting.Make sure that the needle sews over the edgeof the fabric. Place the fabric according to thepresser foot (see picture).

Mending and darning

Three-step zig-zag , can be utilized formending and darning. A threadbare spot ismended by sewing back and forth with three-step zig-zag.Use the reverse and for every row of stit-

ching, guide the fabric slightly to the side. Ifthe fabric is very worn, a piece of fabric orlining may be attached to the reverse side ofthe material as reinforcement.

Terry cloth is a rather loosely woven fabric inwhich seams easily break.Sew the garment together with straight stitch.Trim the seams and press the seam allowanceflat and sew the edges down against the

garment on the wrong side with three-stepzig-zag.Even though the stitching goes right throughto the right side of the garment, it is nearlyinvisible and even the wrong side looks neat.Use presser foot A if you have model 315.

335In addition to the stitches already described,there are a number of decorative stitches.Set the desired stitch with the stitch selec-

tor dial. At first try the recommended stitchlength then adjust as needed. Always make atest first on a scrap of fabric you are going touse. Start sewing slightly in from the edge.

When sewing light-weight material you willget a better result if you place a stabilizerunder the fabric.

Stitch variationOn the machine there is a guide Stitch varia-tion showing a number of stitches.

By selecting one of the stitches from the leftcolumn and decreasing the stitch width accor-ding to recommendation in the right column,the look of the stitch will change. This gives

you 12 additional stitches.

Changing the light bulbThe light bulb is placed to the left of theneedle. Place the rubber sheath found in theaccessory box around the bulb, turn a quarterof a turn in the direction of the arrow andremove the bulb.

When inserting, place the rubber sheath aro-und the new bulb, insert the bulb and turn aquarter of a turn in the direction of the arrow.Use light bulb designed as indicated on thefront of the machine.

Care of the machineTo keep your sewing machine operatingsatisfactorily, it requires, like other precisionmachines, regular cleaning. No lubrication(oiling) is needed.

Fault-findingAlways start by checking the needle Always start with a new needle as soonas you discover that a stitch is not what youexpected. Test sew on a scrap of the fabric

you are sewing. Check that you have chosenthe correct needle and see that it is correctlyinserted. See page 15.

Unattractive stitches The thread tension is not correct. See page 14. Make sure that the thread is not catching.Cer-tain thread spools are unsuitable forspooling from the horizontal spool pin. Tryinstead with the vertical spool pin. The machine may be incorrectly threaded.

Be sure to place spool holders correctly.The correct threading is shown on page 11. Wrong bobbin thread. It should be of thesame thickness as the upper thread.

The needle breaks You may have helped the machine to feedby pulling the fabric. The needle can strikeagainst stitch plate and break. Change theneedle. See page 15.

The upper thread breaks Check the thread spool to see that it hasnot caught in any way. The needle eye may have sharp edges

which cut the thread. If so, change theneedle. See page 15. The upper thread is incorrectly threaded.See page 11. The upper thread may have too much ten-sion. Refer to page 14.

The thread is knotted The hole in the stitch plate may be chippedand have sharp edges. We recommend that

you replace it.

The bobbin thread breaks The bobbin thread may be incorrectlythreaded. See page 13. The stitch plate hole is damaged. See Up-per thread breaks.

Irregular bobbin winding This may be due to poor quality thread.

When sewing with cotton thread, increase thethread tension.

El hilo tiene nudos. El agujero de la placa de la aguja se hadaado por los continuos pinchazos de laaguja. Lo mejor es cambiar la placa de aguja.

The fabric puckers The upper thread tension is too tight. Seepage 14 for correct thread tension.

The machine does not feed the fabric The stitch length is too short. Increase stitchlength. The feed teeth may be lowered. Raise themby turning the stitch length dial to the left. The feed teeth are full of dust and dirt.Clean with the brush. See page 33.

The seam is too loose fabric layersnot held together The thread tension is far too loose. Page 14shows how to adjust the thread tension.

Machine runs sluggishly Dirt or lint has built up under the stitchplate. Loosen the plate and brush clean bet-

ween the feed teeth and in the bottom area.See page 33. Dirt or lint has packed in the hook. Remove

the bobbin and clean with the brush. Seepage 33.

Expert assistanceHave your machine tuned up regularly by

your dealer.If you have followed the preceding pointsand still do not get satisfactory results, youshould contact the dealer where you boughtthe machine.

When the machine is being checked, it isa great help if it can be test sewn under assimilar conditions as possible as when youused it.Remember to take a sewing sample along

with you, preferably of the fabric and withthe thread you intend to use.

A sewing sample will often give much betterinformation than words.

Non-original Parts and Accessories

The warranty does not cover any defect ordamage caused by use of non-original acces-sories or parts.

Retirar la cpsula y lim-piarla con una brocha, ver la pg. 33.
