A Trip Through The Rainforest

A rainforest is a place where a lot of trees grow and a lot of animals live there. It is located in the northwest and the southwestern hemispheres. It is on the continent of South America. The countries are Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, Columbia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, and Brazil.

The climate of the rainforest is 770

Fahrenheit. It is green everywhere. There are lots of plants and flowers. It rains a lot in the rainforest. There is about 80 inches of rainfall every year. It is also very humid.

The layer of the forest floor is really dark and almost no plants live down here. Giant ant eaters live down here. The understory layer gets little sunshine. The plants grow long leaves to get sunlight. Jaguars and red eyed tree frogs live on this layer. The emergent layer gets lots of sunlight. Eagles, monkeys, bats and butterflies live up here. The canopy layer gets good sunlight. There are smooth leaves and animals like snakes, toucans, and tree frogs.

The Pink River Dolphin is pale pink, shiny and medium sized. It lives in tributaries and main rivers of the Orinoco river systems in South America. Its

predators are humans. Its prey is mostly only fish. One of the fish is a small fresh water fish and another is algae eating catfish. It is a carnivore, it means it only eats meat. Some adaptations are it develops a long beak to get its food easier and its flexible body helps it swim faster. Some cool facts are they have 40% more brain capacity than humans do and also it can turn its head 180 degrees. This animal is a consumer. An fact is when a animal is dead a decomposer will eat it.

This organism, the three toed sloth is an herbivore. Their legs are about 20 to 27 centimeters long. They have a flat nose and big eyes and are grayish brown. Its habitat is the Amazon rainforest and the rainforest in Central America. They go from tree to tree. Its predators are the Jaguar, the Harpy eagle, Anaconda, and man. It eats leaves and fruits. The adaptations are they have claws to hang on the trees, The way they sleep serves them as camouflage for predators.

The cocoa tree foliage is very green and the branches are dark brown. It has lots

of leaves on it. It is also found in Europe and the rainforest floor. All herbivores and omnivores eats the cocoa tree. People use it to get oxygen and make chocolate out of it. But there is so much deforestation we may not have any of these beautiful trees in a year or so.

The Clavillia is small and purple and also pink. It is on the rainforest floor. Herbivores and omnivores eat this plant. People use it for oxygen and it kills viruses, bacteria, fungi, and parasites. This plant is a producer.

The yanomami tribe village is set up in large circular communal houses called yanos or shabonos. Some can hold up to 400 people. They live by hunting for monkeys, deer, tapir and peccary. The women garden for food. They use over 500 plants for food medicine and house building. Some culture facts are, a belief is the spirit world is a fundamental part of Yanomami life. Every creature, rock, tree and mountain has a spirit. Sometimes these are malevolent, attack the Yanomami and are believed to cause illness.

The Witoto tribe lives by using medicine plants, communal houses, and hollow log signal drums. They use leaves and trees for shelter. They

hunt for survival is what they use from the rainforest and what they also use from the rainforest is they kill animals and find food from the rainforest. A culture fact is after war they celebrate by eating the meat of the people they killed. The Witoto get around the Rainforest by walking, canoeing and

using roads that have been cleared through the forest. They also trade goods with other cultures.

To save the rainforest we would have to stop deforestation because there is so many people cutting down trees. We have to conserve by recycling and picking up trash. We need more ecotourism, which is tourism picking up garbage while traveling throw the rainforest.

All of these amazing facts might not be true in a year. All the plants, animals and tribes could become extinct. If we don’t do something there could be no more rainforest. Some people are already taking action… can you?
