• Despite the recent downturn in information technology, employment of computer software engineers is expected to increase much faster than the average for all occupations, as businesses and other organizations adopt and integrate new technologies and seek to maximize the efficiency of their computer systems.

• 7 of the 10 fastest growing occupations are computer (information technology) related occupations.

majoring in computer science has declined by over 60% between the Fall of 2000 and 2004 (HERI/UCLA quoted in May 2005 Computing Research News)
