Depth

This type of photography is by far my favorite to shoot. It was one of the first things that we learned when work-ing with our cameras, but I quickly found that depth of field is something that is used in every single picture that you take! It is so vitally important to creating the perfect shot!

As you can see on the other page, I like to play golf. I was able to set my focal length extremely small so that the only tings that would be in focus were the ball and the grass right in front of it. What came of it was a very sweet picture that emphasizes the ball and leaves the remainder of the course as a mystery.

Portraits

Shooting portraits is a very fun project! Not only do you get to work with extremely cool lighting equipment, but you get to see the diversity of each individual person. Itis very easy to try and control your subjects every move, but I learned very quickly that this leads to very stale photos. It is important to let your model display their personality and have a little fun! Comfort is key when shooting portraits and should be the para-mount concern.

For this particular shoot I took my wife to a local garden that she really enjoys so that she would be comfortable. It was near sundown so the lighting was very good and the garden was near empty. I wanted to get a few shots that looked like she was leading me down a path, so I had her walk away from me slowly and turn and look back. I gave her somewhat vague instructions so that she could let her personality show.

Bannack Montana is an old ghost town that is filled to the rafters with character and inspiring objects. We were turned loose on an expedition to this town and permitted to take photos of whatever spoke most to us. While there I noticed that there were a fair amount of old vehicles lying around and I immediately was drawn to them. They filled the majority of my memory card. The rich color and texture amazed me! I had never seen anything like it before. I also included some other shots I felt were pretty cool that showed the diversity of this town.

Ever since I was young I have loved logos. I thought they were extremely creative and powerful in that a single image could represent something as complex an entire company and all of their products. It is what caused me to want to enter the business field with an emphasis in digital imaging so that some day I might be able to design something that would be known worldwide.

This deep seeded love is what inspired me for my themed imagery project. I wanted to capture images that were widely known back when this town was active. Things like name brand ovens, or logos on old vehicles ran rampant throughout the town and represented what the people of that day found valuable. Seeing all of this was able to let me step back in time and see exactly where these peoples priorities were.

I have never been the one to try and document everything I see. If there was something I wanted to remember I would just try and lock it away in my mind and hope it stayed. By getting behind a solid camera I have found a much more effective way of doing this. I found that I rather enjoy capturing moments that make me smile! Expressing myself with creative shots and telling a story is some-thing that has been missing in my life and this new found hobby of mine has filled that gap!
