Sixteen lucky county employees were chosen to ride with Dallas

County officials in the Mavericks Championship Parade with ap-

proximately 240,000 fans cheering as they passed through down-

town.

Last month, Dallas County Judge Clay Lewis Jenkins asked the

other Commissioners Court members to allow county employees

to wear Dallas Mavericks shirts on game days during the Western

Conference Finals and NBA Finals.

After the team won their first NBA title in franchise history and

Dallas County secured one float in the historic parade, Judge Jen-

kins selected from employees who had actually worn Mavericks

gear and submitted pictures to him.

The employees were able to attend a social event with other

parade participants and several even met some of the players be-

fore the parade began.

“I couldn’t believe that I was going to be part of history just be-

cause I supported my team by wearing a shirt to work,” said La-

monica Littles, court coordinator for Criminal District Court No. 3.

“I had a blast.”

The employees received the most applause when they passed by

the three county buildings along Houston Street where other

county employees cheered loudly for them. Sheriff Lupe Valdez also

joined Judge Jenkins on the float with the employees.

Judge Jenkins credited the addition of Dallas County in the parade

to the Public Information Officer Maria Arita and Lisa Chambers,

Director of Homeland Security and Emergency Management.

“It was great to see our team working so hard to reward county

employees with such an awesome opportunity,” Jenkins said. “The

Mavericks were gracious to include us and now several of our hard-

working employees have memories they will cherish for a lifetime.”
