Message from the Artistic Director

Hello and Welcome! My name is Jeffrey Rockland and in addition to the privilege of being the Dance Coordinator here at Kent State University, I am honored to also be the Artistic Director of Dance 20/20: Virtual/Vision. The concert you are about to see demonstrates the resilience and creativity of Kent State’s students and faculty. Seven faculty choreographers and over fifty student dancers, designers, and technicians, guided by dance, design, and production faculty, have faced a semester with major restrictions due to COVID. We have undertaken the creation of a streaming concert without our usual theatre and with the added burden of safety regulations needed during this pandemic. The brilliance of education or life in the arts is the daily process of working toward perfecting our craft, regardless of obstacles that come our way. We fully embrace a life where problem-solving becomes second nature and daily work is a labor of love. Prior to each piece in this concert, you will have the opportunity to see the process of our costume and prop designers and meet each choreographer. Please stay until the end when you will be able to see the dancers without their masks.
