Project Objectives
• Improving water monitoring and the warnings system, environmental data dissemination on the Romanian-Bulgarian border counties;
• Implementing at high standards the EC water policy, by increasing institutional capacity
• Improving the water infrastructure by different acquisitions, including a ship for Danube monitoring and pollution intervention
• Processing and conditioning the liquid organic wastes radioactively contaminated from the nuclear plants Cernavodǎ and Kozloduy.
• Monitoring, data processing and forecasting water quantity and quality, under the European Commission standards for a better implementation of the European legislation in the water field (the Water Framework Directive 2000/60/EC, the Flood Directive 2007/60/CE) Increasing capacity for data and warning dissemination at the border areas.

Project Results
• Joint methodologies, joint standards for water monitoring and Joint aligned databases with interfaces for data exchange and data sharing with the large public, as demanded by INSPIRE Directive and will be shared with the ICPDR and the upstream countries. Warnings will be elaborated in case of floods, low flows and accidental pollution for the relevant actors in the border area, increasing the public awareness through information campaigns on the environmental protection and management in the cross-border area. Finally, a revision of the bilateral agreement for data exchange will be provided.
Target Groups
• Large communities in flood risk areas,
water management authorities, ICPDR,
border counties, NPP Cernavodă -
Romania and Kozloduy - Bulgaria

WE INVITE YOU TO CELEBRATE
THE DANUBE DAY, 29 June, 2014!
THE DANUBE DAY, 29 June, 2014!
• Danube Day is a celebration of a cleaner, safer river following 20 years of international cooperation.
• Meetings and sprtiv competitions on the banks of the rivers; public meetings and fun, educational events payed tribute to the Danube rivers, its peoples and the progress that has been made. Danube Day strengthens our "Danube solidarity" highlighting that, in spite of our different cultures and histories, we have a shared desire and responsibility to protect our precious resource.
• Danube WATER encouraged children to visit their local rivers and create artworks reflecting what the Danube means to them in Giurgiu, and Braila and meeting through the pictures works in Calarasi. By entering the competition, the children not only had a great time making their artwork but are also motivated to consider the future of the rivers and the people and wildife that rely on them. The result was a visual representation of young people's vision for the Danube Basin.
