The Alamo-Danville Artists’ Society, founded in 1977, is a non-profit organization, providing monetary contribution in support of art programs in the schools of the San Ramon Valley School District.

Membership includes artists and patrons who appreciate the visual arts. ADAS regularly hosts distinguished and nationally known guest artists at the monthly meetings, held on the 2nd Tuesday of every month (except July and August) at 7:30 pm at the Alamo Women’s Club, 1401 Danville Boulevard, Alamo. Everyone is welcome to attend. Our membership currently consists of 225 professional and non-professional artists of all levels, including non-artists as well.

ADAS activities in the community include the Primavera Spring Art Show—an annual juried event, Art in the Park—an outdoor art show, Blackhawk Gallery—a venue where local professional artists can exhibit and sell their works, the Rotating Gallery—rotating exhibits in local shops and restaurants, the ADAS Newsletter—featuring upcoming events and member news.

Artists who sell their work at Art in the Park, Primavera, Blackhawk Gallery, Rotating Gallery, and in other art exhibits voluntarily donate a percentage of the sale of their artwork from ADAS sponsored activities to our Art for the Schools fund. Additional funds come from patrons of the arts and community retailer’s support and donations. The money in this fund is used to provide cash grants to our local schools, to be used to supplement their art programs.

ABoUT THE DANVillE CoMMUNiTy BANDThe Danville Community Band met for the first time September 20, 2001 under the baton of Danville resident and founder Dr. Lawrence E. Anderson. Discover and celebrate Eugene o’Neill in Danville!Danville was once the home town of Eugene O’Neill, widely regarded as America’s first great playwright. He was the recipient of four Pulitzer Prizes and is the only American playwright to be awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. He wrote his last six plays—including Long Day’s Journey into Night, The Iceman Cometh and A Moon for the Misbegotten—at his Tao House estate in the rolling hills above Danville. A unit of the National Park Service, the house is a National Historic Site. His legacy continues through a series of programs and special events arranged each year by the Danville-based Eugene O’Neill Foundation, in partnership with the National Park Service.

THE TowN oF DANVillE AND rolE PlAyErS ENSEMBlE THEATrE PrESENT THE 2012–2013 SEASoNRole Players Ensemble celebrates its 29th season by committing itself to high-quality professional theatre, continuing to be a center for creative and theatrical activity in the cultural life of the community, as well as an asset to the Town and community members. Artistic Director Eric Fraisher Hayes has chosen “lesser-known” classics this season. Plays you feel you know, and yet there is much that is new. Eugene O”Neill’s heartwarming, Ah, Wilderness!; Arthur Miller’s suspenseful drama, Incident At Vichy; Lisa Loomer’s charming comedy, Expecting Isabel; and the hardboiled melodrama, Requiem for a Heavyweight, by Rod Serling.

AH, wilDErNESS! By Eugene O’NeillSept. 7–22, 2012 • Fri/Sat 8:00 pm; Sun 2:00 pm

Produced in association with The Eugene O’Neill Foundation, Tao HouseDescribed by the Nobel prize-winning playwright as the childhood he wished he had, Ah, Wilderness! is a warm-hearted, richly humorous look at life in small town America. The master of American drama uses all his insights into human relationships and motivations to craft the very real and funny foibles of the Miller family on a supposedly sleepy 4th of July weekend.

iNCiDENT AT ViCHy By Arthur MillerOct. 19–Nov. 10, 2012 • Fri/Sat 8:00 pm; Sun 2:00 pm

Thrown into a room with no explanation, a group of strangers grapple with their prejudices, fears and faith in their fellow man. Miller’s thrilling WWII drama is full of incredible suspense and gritty testing of the limits of mankind’s capacity for good and evil.

EXPECTiNG iSABEl By Lisa LoomerJan. 18–Feb. 9, 2013 • Fri/Sat 8:00 pm; Sun 2:00 pm

Like many modern couples, Miranda and Nick decide to have a baby. Their difficulties in conceiving lead them through the booming baby business as they run the madcap maze of the fertility trade, the adoption industry and their own families. Lisa Loomer’s frenetic farce is a hilarious yet tender look at what it can take to “have a family” in the 21st century.

rEQUiEM For A HEAVywEiGHT By Rod SerlingApr. 26–May 18, 2013 • Fri/Sat 8:00 pm

Before Rod Serling created The Twilight Zone, he was a very successful writer in the early days of television. This Emmy award-winning drama about a boxer against the ropes of life was a national sensation when it was broadcast live on CBS’s Playhouse 90. Join RPE as we travel back to 1956 and experience the exhilaration of being in the studio audience as a live play is being broadcast to an entire nation. A happening not to be missed!
