“The most important thing I learned from DAPCEP was problem solving,

which is the most important skill you can have in any profession. I can

once I started the second week, I realized that it was more to the

program and they were actually preparing us and making us aware of

“DAPCEP made me more outgoing. It opened doors and made everything

possible. You might think that you can’t do something but you have to

“DAPCEP has prepared me and gave me the tools for higher learning.

I was always a step ahead in my math and science classes, and it just

gave me the knowledge I needed to prepare for school and college.

campus through DAPCEP and met professors there, and I just loved the

campus and knew I wanted to go there. My advice to current students is:

college. Early, DAPCEP gave me a head start in middle school for science

ŵŝŶŽƌŝŶŐŝŶ,ŝƐƚŽƌLJŽŶĂƉƌĞͲůĂǁƚƌĂĐŬ/ǁĂƐŐŽŽĚĂƚƐĐŝĞŶĐĞďĞĨŽƌĞ but I didn’t like it and DAPCEP helped me to like science.”

“DAPCEP set a career path for me. All my courses were in science and

would already be familiar with the topics we were learning. I went to a

ĐŽƵƉůĞƉƌŽŐƌĂŵƐĂƚD^hĂŶĚƚŚĂƚƐǁŚĂƚŝŶŇƵĞŶĐĞĚŵĞƚŽŐŽƚŚĞƌĞ because I met the professors and new people and felt really comfortable

ŽŶĐĂŵƉƵƐ/ŵŐŽŝŶŐƚŽD^hƚŽŐŽŝŶƚŽƉƌĞͲŵĞĚƚŽďĞĐŽŵĞĂ pathologist. My advice is: everything is worth it. There isn’t one

“The biggest thing to me was the brotherhood over the four years we

got to know each other in READY. Mr. Murphy pushed us and said, this is

the home stretch and we need to push forward and get into college. The

program was geared toward engineering, but the leadership aspect and

ƚŚĞƉƌĞƐĞŶƚĂƟŽŶƉƌĞƉĂƌĂƟŽŶŵĂĚĞŵĞƌĞĂůŝnjĞƚŚĂƚ/ŵĂŐŽŽĚŵĂŶĂŐĞƌĂŶĚ/ĐĂŶůĞĂĚďLJĞdžĂŵƉůĞ/ǁŽƵůĚƐĂLJƚŽĐƵƌƌĞŶƚƐƚƵĚĞŶƚƐĚŽŶƚƐůĂĐŬŽīany year, because every single year in high school is a stepping stone. You

“Becasue of DAPCEP I got to look into careers I may not have been

exposed to. READY has been a big impact on me, we have a brotherhood

and the program teaches you how to give back to the community. I was

“I wanted to become a pediatrician, but being exposed to engineering at

Ddh/ĚĞĐŝĚĞĚ/ǁĂŶƚĞĚƚŽďĞďŝŽŵĞĚŝĐĂůĞŶŐŝŶĞĞƌ /ǁŽƌŬĞĚŵĂŬŝŶŐĂƉƌŽƐƚŚĞƟĐŬŶĞĞĂŶĚ/ƌĞĂůůLJĞŶũŽLJĞĚĂŶĚƚŚĂƚ/ůŽǀĞŚĞůƉŝŶŐƉĞŽƉůĞ/ůŽǀĞƚŚĞŵĞĚŝĐĂůĮĞůĚďƵƚĚŝƐĐŽǀĞƌŝŶŐĞŶŐŝŶĞĞƌŝŶŐĂŶĚŶŽǁďĞŝŶŐĂďůĞƚŽƉƵƚthem together in biomedical engineering is awesome. Before I was kind

of shy and being part of the program, I met my best friends and we keep

ŝŶƚŽƵĐŚ/ƚŚĞůƉĞĚŵLJĐŽŶĮĚĞŶĐĞƚŽŽĂŶĚ/ĂůƐŽůĞĂƌŶĞĚŚŽǁƚŽŶĞƚǁŽƌŬI would say to other students, join the program! If you’re not interested

in science and math, DAPCEP will get you really interested and you’ll also

meet people who will help you in the long run.”

“When I was younger, I had a speech impediment that put me behind in

ƌĞĂĚŝŶŐŵĂƚŚĂŶĚƐĐŝĞŶĐĞdŚƌŽƵŐŚƚŚĞƉƌĞƐĞŶƚĂƟŽŶĂƐƉĞĐƚŽĨƚŚĞprogram, DAPCEP released my anxiety of talking in front of people.

I joined DAPCEP and ever since then I’ve been at the top of my class.

It’s given me the opportunity to explore my curiosity, and it also opened

ŵĞƚŽĂďƵŶĐŚŽĨŽƉƉŽƌƚƵŶŝƟĞƐͲ/ƚŽƵƌĞĚƐĞǀĞƌĂůƵŶŝǀĞƌƐŝƟĞƐƚŚƌŽƵŐŚŽƵƚMichigan. I’m going to study mechanical engineering because I got to

play with machinery in DAPCEP and it was really fun.”
