The City of Darebin is seeking to build and diversify its program of creative and cultural offerings and is taking applications for the 2019 Triennial Event Partnership Program for Northcote Town Hall Arts Centre and the Darebin Arts Centre.

We are seeking applications from established businesses that are devoted to the following principles of the Darebin Arts Strategy, Creative Darebin:

1. Inclusive: providing access and meaningful participation for Darebin’s priority communities of : • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders community • People with a Disability and their carers • Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities, and • Young People • Older People

2. Enterprising: establishing and growing their events in the City of Darebin to generate cultural and economic benefits to the community.

3. Connected: creating connections across communities and between generations.

4. Vibrant and Visionary: with a proven business record and established professional standard, lead by example in creativity and commit to best practice. The program on offer from Darebin Arts is for four partnerships in total with two being held at each of the arts venues, Northcote Town Hall Arts Centre and Darebin Arts Centre. These partnerships will be established under a three-year contract to enable planning, growth and security.

Darebin Arts Programs at Northcote Town Hall Arts Centre and Darebin Arts Centre

The Triennial Event Partnership Program will complement the current programs at Northcote Town Hall Arts Centre and the Darebin Arts Centre, which include:

The Speakeasy Program: high quality performance work from artistic leaders and companies in the small to medium sector that forms an integral part of the cultural ecology of Melbourne and Australia’s artistic landscape.

Festivals and Events: City of Darebin-produced festivals and events such as Home-made Food and Wine Festival and Darebin Music Feast, which are held in various locations across the municipality, including Northcote Town Hall Arts Centre and the Darebin Arts Centre.

Morning Music: an affordable, quality, day-time concert series showcasing some of Australia’s most loved and renowned performers.

What We Provide:• The venue, either Northcote Town Hall Arts Centre or the Darebin Arts Centre, at no cost • In situ technical equipment at no cost• Professional and collaborative support from venue staff in the planning and delivery of the event• Provision of a bar, bar staff and liquor licence if the event requires alcohol service • An established ticketing system, which all ticketed venue events must use• Promotional support through approved City of Darebin media channels.

What You Provide:• Full complement of experienced staff, including Event Director, Event Producer, Stage Manager who will work with the venue team to plan, develop and deliver the event• Resources to cover the cost of the venue’s technical, Front of House and Box Office Staff for the event• All infrastructure and technical equipment not in situ at the venue• Marketing and publicity in consultation with the City of Darebin.

Partnership Arrangement:

The City of Darebin will • Retain a percentage of ticketing income net of charges and other costs as negotiated• Retain bar revenue

Event Partner will• Retain a percentage of net ticketing income as negotiated• Manage all merchandise and retail food offerings, retaining net revenue associated with both

Criteria.Applications will be judged on the following selection criteria:

1. Creative or Cultural Integrity: Evidence of quality ideas and awareness of theevent’s value in the community.

2. Business Security: Evidence of successful business performance and eventmanagement

3. Arts Venues’ Mission: Compatibility with the mission statement of the venues“To use the City of Darebin’s cultural infrastructure and resources to facilitateartistic collaboration, partnerships, creativity, production and culture”.

4. Empathy with Darebin Arts’ strategic goals: We are looking to supportevents across a range of artforms, cultures and visions that value being:• Vibrant and visionary,• Enterprising,• Connected, and• Inclusive.

5. Event Viability:• Demonstrated commitment from event partners with evidence of financial

or in-kind support from the public, philanthropic or private sector or fromcommunity organisations.

• Logistical feasibility in the venue space• Evidence of the event’s ability to attract an audience• How this partnership will assist in establishing your event over the three

years to enable it to continue without Council subsidy.

6. Available Dates: Is the event available on the dates that suit the venue’sschedule.

Step 2: Log in; if you haven’t used SmartyGrants to submit an on-line application form before, you need to register. To do this you need to have an email address and set up a password.

Step 3: Select Darebin Arts Triennial Event Partnership Program and begin your application.

Step 4: Have ready for your application:• Event Plan including risk assessment• Previous financial statements• CVs of key personnel• Budget• Marketing plan

Successful applicants will be informed in mid July. Events can be held as early as 2019 on an annual basis for the next three years. Successful event partners will not be eligible to receive Darebin funding through the annual Community Grants Program or the Facility Hire Subsidy Program.
