See a pitch black screen.

MATT MURDOCK(V.O)

Life is a never ending road. Theysay when you die its over.. Thatsnot the case. I died years ago. AndI only started living now.

DAREDEVIL Logo shoots across the screen

HOSPITAL ROOM

We see a bunch of doctors all in a surgery room. They aretrying to get a baby out of a womans stomach.

MATT MURDOCK(V.O)

My mom died during my birth. (Seeher heart rate go silent. And heara "beep" sound) My dad had to raisemy on his own. It wasnt easy forhim.. And neither for me.

One doctor walks over to a man seated in a chair outside thesurgery room. He has his hands over his mouth. The doctorwalks over to him and says something. And the man begins tocry. He puts his head in his hands and then cries some more.

APARTMENT - HELLS KITCHEN

Matts dad is holding a small baby (Matt). He gets out ofthe taxi that dropped him off. He then walks inside ahorrible looking building. The building is in Hells Kitchenalso known as The Devils Playground. The city is a rundownpart of New York. With drug dealers and prostitutes on everystreet.

Matts Dad walks up the crappy stairs and finds hisapartment door. #85. Matts dad puts his key in and opensthe door. We see a nice apartment, with nice sofas and anice TV. Matts Dads name is Jack Murdock. Jack then putsthe sleeping Matt on the sofa. He sits down next to him andwatches the Football game. He looks over at his new son

HELLS KITCHEN - 12 YEARS LATER

MATT MURDOCK(V.O)

My dad was a prize fighter. He wasa boxer. He was 42 years old. Andgoing for the World Championship.

Something that would never happen.Im surprised I believed it waspossible.. Fairly.

Jack Murdock walks into his living room. We see Matt, he iseating cereal at the breakfast bench.

JACK MURDOCKMatty.

MATT MURDOCK (12 YEARS OLD)Morning Dad.

Matt looks over at the clock near the window

MATT MURDOCK (12 YEARS OLD)Almost 8:30

Matt puts a massive spoon full of cereal in his mouth.

Matt looks at his dad. His dad smiles back

Matt then finishes his cereal and runs out the door.

The camera panels closer to Jack Murdock. His smile slowlyfades away.

SCHOOL

Matt is walking through the halls of the High School. He is12 years old and is relatively short. He has dark blondehair. His best friend, Franklin "Foggy" Nelson is over bythe lockers. Matt walks over to Foggy

Matt walks up the stairs to his apartment. He opens the doorand we see Jack Murdock in the kitchen

Matt runs off and goes to his room. Matt closes the door andwe see him open the window. He grabs his backpack. Outsidehis window he has a fire escape. The fire escape goes to theroom. Matt climbs it and goes onto the room. He stands thereand watches the sun as it sets. He does his homework on theroof.

MATT MURDOCK(V.O)

I always used to come up there. Itwas like my private time. My placeaway from everyone else. It was myhome away from home. Everything wasso peaceful. The sun set wasspectacular. I miss it.

Matt is reading his text book on Algebra, his shakes hishead. He doesnt understand the questions

MATT MURDOCK (12 YEARS OLD)This doesnt even make sense? Urgh

He throws the book across the roof. He then puts his head inhis hands and wipes his tears away. He grabs his crossnecklace and gets on his knees.

Matt wipes his tears away.

DINNER TABLE

Matt is eating dinner with his dad. The table has threeseats. One of course is missing. Jack leaves the chair therebecause of his wife. Jack eats the food with great delight.

MATT MURDOCK (12 YEARS OLD)No. Just i got a lot of things onmy mind.

We see the door open. Jack Murdock walks in, he has hisboxing gloves in a Nike sports bag.

He walks into the dirty old gym. Jack loves it. He walksover to the boxing area. We see a punching bag. Jack takes

out his boxing gloves and puts them on.

He starts slowly punching the bag. He does one right jab,then one left jab. We hear the bell on the door ring, assomeone walks in.

The man is about 511. He is in his mid 60s. He walks overto Jack.

SWEENEYMr Murdock

Jack stops punching the bag. He turns and faces the old man.

JACK MURDOCKSweeney

SWEENEYOne of my clients. (scratches hisear) kinda died.

JACK MURDOCKOh what a shame. Can you leave mealone now?

SWEENEYNo. I cant do that. Well you seethis client. Mr John Romita. hedied. And he was the number 1contender for the WorldChampionship

Jack who had been punching the bag stops for a second. Heturns and faces Sweeney.

Sweeney steps back. He pulls out a small piece of paper. Hewrites his number on there. He then puts it in Jacks sportsbag

Jack then starts punching the bag again.


Jack walks up the stairs to his apartment. He hearsscreaming from the apartments next door. He sees a dead raton the floor. He kicks it away from his door. He then seeson the door a note.

He grabs the note. He reads it

"Rent Overdue"

Jack then punches the wall. He opens the door. And walksinside.

He throws the paper on the chair and then goes straight tothe fridge to get a beer.

HOURS LATER, MATT COMES HOME. HE OPENS THE DOOR. HIS DAD ISON THE CHAIR. MATT WALKS OVER TO HIM.

SCHOOL

Matt and Foggy are walking through the school halls. Theywalk past Ryan and his friends. The two friends speed up,Ryan eventually catches Foggy and Matt. Matt and Foggy standstill.

MATT MURDOCK (12 YEARS OLD)Move. Ive got a class to get to

RYANHaha. Who do you think you are kid?

Ryan then lunges towards Matt. he punches Matt in the face,

he then grabs his ear and twists it. Matt screams out inpain. Ryan then kicks Matt in the legs and then spits onhim. Foggy then jumps onto Ryan. Foggy starts punching Ryan.Ryan then gets a blood nose, He then passes out. We seeFoggy, he is still punching him. We see a teacher run overand grabs Foggy. He takes Foggy off Ryan and drags him tothe detention room. Matt looks over to Ryan. Ryan isbleeding and has passed out.

MATT MURDOCK (12 YEARS OLD)Foggy...

DETENTION ROOM

We see Matt, Foggy and Ryan all in the detention room. Theteacher walks in. We see Matts dad, Ryans parents andFoggys parents all walk in with the teacher. Jack walksover to Matt, he sees a bruise on Matt. Foggys parents walkover to Foggy and hug him. Ryans parents then sit next toRyan.

MR WAIDHello everyone. I am Mr Waid. Ioversaw this... Throw down. Outsidemy office. Now, i believe in thecourt of law. So Im gonna letFoggy, Matthew and Ryan explainwhat happened.

Foggy looks over to Matt.

We see Matt, he is walking home from school. He has a paperin his hand that has straight As on it. It is his schoolreport. Matt is really happy and wants to show his dad.

I was 12 years old. I got the bestgrades the school had ever seen.They were calling me a genius. Iwanted to make my dad proud. So iwanted to show him. I went down thewrong street. At the wrong time.And there he was.

We see Jack Murdock. he is holding a butcher against a wall.He then kicks him in gut

Matt walks down 46th street and sees a man. He walks closerthe man kicks the butcher again. And again. Matt starts torun.

Matt runs towards the man. He then gets really close. Theman pushes Matt back. The man turns around and sees itsMatt. Matt looks the man in the eyes. He sees its his dad.

JACK MURDOCKMatt!

Matt gets up and starts running. He drops the school reporton the ground.

We see Jack, he kicks the butcher and then chases after hisson.

MATT MURDOCK(V.O)

My dad was desperate. At least

thats what i always thought. Itwas the worst Ive ever seen. Stillis. The way he pushed me to theground, i felt like he was Ryan. Ithought he was the bully. I wasworried. I ran.

We see a slow motion shot of Matt running through thestreets of Hells Kitchen. Jack running after him.

MATT MURDOCK(V.O)

New York had a strict rule aboutNuclear waste. It was never to betransported in the city. Somebodydidnt care. Somebody thought therule or the law didnt obey tothem.

We see a Forklift transporting the nuclear waste.

Matt is running and runs in front of one of the forklifts.We see the forklift driver panic. He then turns theforklift. The barrels of waste fall off. They explode infront of Matt.

MATT MURDOCK

(V.O)The red barrels. They were the lastthing i ever saw.

HOSPITAL BED

We see Matt lying down on a hospital bed. We hear the dooropen. Matt turns his head to face the door.

We see all black.

We then see Jack.

Jack takes a few steps towards Matt and then Matt starts tosee. But not very clear. The view is all red.

JACK MURDOCKIm So sorry. (sniffs). Thedoctor...

MATT MURDOCK (12 YEARS OLD)I know. The doctor said i was blind

JACK MURDOCKHowd you know?

MATT MURDOCK (12 YEARS OLD)I heard it

My dad and I made a promise. Wewere the outcast. The left out, thebroken. We made a promise that we

We see Matt walking in New York. he has a stick now. Foggyis walking beside him. Matt walks through the streets

We see Ryan and his friends walk behind Matt and Foggy

Matt stops walking.

FOGGY(whisper)

Matt turns around and faces Ryan

Ryan runs towards Matt, Matt then flicks out his walkingstick and starts hitting Ryan. Ryan falls back, his friendsthen starts to fight Matt. Foggy looks on in awe. Mattstarts kicking them and punching them. We see Matt break akids nose. We then see Ryan charge at Matt. Matt jumps overhim and puts out his hand

MATT MURDOCK (12 YEARS OLD)Im over here

Ryan gets angry and charges with fists of fury towards Matt.Matt grabs one fist and twists it. He breaks Ryans hand. He

then kicks Ryan. Ryan and his friends are on the floor. WEsee Foggy. He slowly starts to clap.

FOGGYYou broke his hand.. Thats awesome

MATT MURDOCK (12 YEARS OLD)Theyll never bother us again.


JACK MURDOCK

Matt and Foggy run to the canteen bar.

Jack then walks into the change rooms.

Jack puts his Nike sports bag down.

He then cracks his neck. He does about 3 pushups then hehears the door slam.

SWEENEYJackie. How you doing?

JACK MURDOCKIm good.

SWEENEYTheres been a slight change ofplans for tonights fight

JACK MURDOCKWhat do you mean?

SWEENEYWell you see. originally. You weremeant to win. the fight. But now wechanged it.

JACK MURDOCKSo now i lose?

SWEENEYYes. But you have to go a fewrounds. So about round 4 you lose.And pay increases.

JACK MURDOCKSweeney. I have my boy out there.

He brought his friend. I wanna makehim proud.

SWEENEYSadly. You have to make him proudnext time. Now. Its just time togive the Devil his due.

Sweeney walks off.

Jack then punches the wall.

BOXING RING

We see a packed arena all here to watch "Battlin Jack

Murdock vs Devil Miller

ANNOUNCERLadies and Gentlemen. In the rightcorner. From New York. the Devilhimself. Frank Miller!!

We hear the people cheer. Matt and Foggy are in the frontrow. They start to boo.

ANNOUNCERAnd in the left corner. From HellsKitchen. Battlin Jack Murdock

We hear people cheer. We see Sweeney in the front row. Hebegins to clap. Matt and Foggy are cheering.

BELL RINGS

Jack and Miller start to punch. We see Miller throw a lefthook at Jack. Jack gets hit he falls back, Jack then throwsa wild punch at Miller knocking him down for the count.Miller falls back. He gets to the count of 5 and then standsup. Jack wipes a bit of blood off his nose. He then startsfighting again.

We see Sweeney. He is smiling

Miller jabs at Jacks Ribs. Jack falls to the ground.

The ref starts counting.

Sweeney watches on as he is pleased.

We see the ref get to about 8

Matt and Foggy are screaming

MATT MURDOCK (12 YEARS OLD)Come on Dad! Never give up!

Sweeney turns around

SWEENEYSave your breath kid.

Jack looks over at his son. He then stands up.

Sweeneys face becomes a face of hate.

Matt and Foggy begin to cheer.

Jack stands up.

He cracks his neck and then starts fighting again.

Miller throws a punch. Jack takes the punch. Jack then giveshim a fantastic upper cut. Miller flies back and lands onhis back. The ref starts to count.

We hear the bell ring

The people start to cheer.

ANNOUNCERWinner and New World Champion!!Jack Battlin Murdock

The people go crazy.
