No, she won’t be heading out to sea, but come softball season, she will be playing catcher for Independence Community Col- lege in Independence Kansas. And, she will be playing under Bridge Creek Bobcat Alumni, Coach Danielle Smith. Smith is now an assistant coach for the Pirates and was back in Bridge Creek for Har- ris’s commitment signing on Wednesday, February 4. In addition to playing catch- er, Harris will be rotating in the 1st and 3rd base position, Smith said. Although ICC is only a two-year college, Smith is certain they will be able to find somewhere for Harris to play once she has finished in Kansas. Smith first noticed Harris when she was a sophomore, and Smith did her coaching internship at Bridge Creek be- fore taking the job at Indepen- dence. Bridge Creek Coach Roy Chidester had this to say about Harris, “She is a great leader, one that can’t be replaced. She has dedicated herself to the sport, and I’m happy to see her get recognized.” Coach Chidester is glad that a former player will be coach- ing Harris. “It’s generational; tradition and success from Bridge Creek will be at ICC. I have a lot of respect for Coach Smith as a player and a coach,” Chidester said. “It’s been a great year and we are going to miss Hanna.” Harris was born the middle of seven children; her parents, David and Regina Harris, are very happy for her. “She’s a good kid; always has been a good kid, and she is fol- lowing her dream. Soccer Autumn Gilchrest signed a letter of commitment Wednes- day, February 4 to play soccer with the University of Sci- ence and Arts of Oklahoma in Chickasha. As a soccer player who wore jersey number 10 most of her life, she will feel right at home wearing 10 for the Drovers at USAO. “I’m really excited to go play there, and I thank God for this opportunity,” said Gilchrest. “I felt very welcome at USAO and truly liked the coaches and the soccer program.” She is also excited that her family will be close enough to attend most of her games. Gilchrest is the daughter of Lee and Jennifer Gilchrest and has been playing soccer since she was four years old. She played on some of the top com- petitive teams in the state, as well as tried out three times for the (ODP) Olympic Develop- ment Team for Oklahoma, and made the top team each time. She played center mid field- er for the Bobcats and was the highest scorer in the district said her mother Jennifer Gil- chrest. “She will likely be a forward for USAO, but center is also an option; she is strong in any position she plays.” Gilchrest will use her full- ride scholarship to help her major in the medical field. She is drawn to medicine from en- countering and overcoming multiple injuries during her career in soccer. They are now both playing college baseball. The boys met during the Eagles JV Opening Night where they played Ravens in Bartlesville. Reagan is a freshman first baseman on the JV squad at Oklahoma Wesleyan University in Bartlesville. The Eagles began the season ranked #3 in the nation in NAIA. Reagan is starting the season on injured reserve as he is rehabbing a shoulder injury suffered in practice. Dylan is a freshman right fielder at Coffeyville (KS) Community College. The Ravens finished the 2014 season ranked 3rd in the nation in the NJCAA rankings. Dylan was a 2-time All-State outfielder for the Racers and is continuing along the same pace in college. For $5 hungry guests received a bowl of chili (hot, mild or deer chili) - with or without fritos - a drink and a dessert. There was also a silent auction available to help raise more money.
