Over 90% of our students have returned to school. Stu- dents who remain at home for learning need to have exemptions in place. If this applies to you and I have not already contacted you, would you please send an email or give me a call. Please continue to keep your child at home if they are unwell. If your child is coughing or sneezing, they are better off at home in a warm bed! Unfortunately, parents are still banned from coming onto the school site. Our students are to be congratulated for coping really well with farewelling their parent at the school fence and walking to the classroom. Special Report from School TV: Wellbeing - Checklist for Primary During this time of Coronavirus, many of us have experienced a variety of emotions ranging from fear to anxiety. This is especially true for our young people, making it more important than ever for adult carers to remain vigilant for any signs of distress. Whilst most children are resilient and seem to be demonstrating a remarkable capacity to manage during this challenging time, others are not faring as well. Some are experiencing a variety of emotions ranging from fear to anxiety, all of which are considered normal or natural responses to this current situation. However despite this, it is still important for adult carers to remain vigilant for any signs of unusual distress or behaviour, even though your child may not have any prior history of a mental health disorder. In this Special Report, presented by Dr Michael Carr-Gregg, adult carers will be provided with a checklist that can be used as a guide in determining if there is any cause for concern. If you do have any concerns about the wellbe- ing of your child, please contact the school for further information or seek medical or professional help. School Council Thank you parents and Carers for your prompt return of your ballot papers. 70 families chose to vote. The successful can-didates are Ian McCallum and Lindsay Earnshaw. The School Council members are as follows:

Naomi D’Arcy, Jessica Chitty, Zane Moran Your School Council meets tonight! Traffic Management Between 3 – 3:15pm, most parents are wanting to swiftly pick up their children and go home. This, like most schools, cre-ates significant congestion for 15 minutes per day. The most congestion occurs at the loop, with all drivers needing to call upon their reserve of patience and courtesy. Our situation is compounded by the fact that Amherst Ave is a no through road. A reduction is congestion can be achieved by more families walking or cycling to school, and by delaying picking up your child by 10 minutes. Another idea was shared at the last P&C meeting. This in-volves creating a longer loop by linking the ELC carpark with the loop. This of course would create more traffic through the ELC parking area. This could be managed by Kindergarten and Pre-primary commencing 10 minutes earlier and finish-ing 10 minutes earlier. As we consider several ways to improve this situation, par-ents and carers are invited to share your feedback regarding these ideas. Student Free Day For your planning, Tuesday 2 June is a student free day. Our staff will be using this day to complete Day 1 of 2 Talk for Writing training. Talk for Writing is a UK based program which will assist our students to improve in their writing skills.

Complaints and Suggestions From time to time issues arise of mistakes are made which

cause frustration or concern. It is always better to try to re-

solve the issue directly with the person involved. If the situa-

tion is not resolved, then you should find the line manager

of the person to make a complaint. Sometimes this means

having a conversation with the teacher or the Principal.

There have been a few situations in the last month that

could have easily been resolved with a conversation with

the right person rather than escalating the complaint.

P&C News Thank you to everyone who came to the P&C Meeting last Monday. Hopefully it will be our last online and we will be able to return to the staff room for our next meeting. Kylie Morrison has been elected as our P&C Representative on the School Council, congratulations Kylie. Hopefully all our Mums had a lovely Mother’s Day and enjoyed your gifts from the P&C Mother’s Day stall. Thank you, Chaplain Tracey, for organising and running this under more difficult circumstances than normal. Fiona Gordon [email protected]

Head Lice Check Please be aware we have had some recent cases of head lice. Please check your children and treat if necessary. Children with head lice are required to have their hair cleared of lice before returning to school. This can be achieved by using an insecticide product purchased from the local pharmacy and used according to the manufacturer’s instruc-tion. This must be followed by physically removing the lice from the hair after the recommended time period using a special nit comb. Hair will need to be checked on a daily basis for the following 10 days to ensure that all lice and eggs have been removed from the hair. Refer to the Department of Health, head lice fact sheet at www.public.health.wa.gov.au

CANTEEN MENU

Apologies for the delay in getting this term’s canteen menu out to you! It has been a bit tricky trying to keep up with suppliers and menu changes but we seem to be settling in to our new routine. As you can see we have a few favourites returning to the menu, apple pies are back, and we have a few new items this term too, canteen made beef and bacon pies are now here and chilli dippers, a pot of beef chilli, all the usual hidden veggies, and a bag of corn chips to dip. These are both already proving to be very popular with the chil-dren. Friday Night Takeout will continue this term, meals are posted on the P&C Facebook page on a Tuesday and it is a first come first served system. Payment methods are via Flexischools as an IOU and paypass in canteen as well as good old cash! These meals continue to support families within our community with our pay it forward scheme. A HUGE thank you to everyone for your support through these challenging times. Our little canteen has survived and will continue to adapt and develop over the coming months. As always, if you would like to discuss anything about our canteen please don't hesi-tate to contact me during canteen hours. Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 7.15-3.15. Our direct line is 9257 4008. Thanks again, Ros.

*new copy of menu can be found on our school website, skoolbag app or attached to this email
