Editorial:Why did I join Rotary?

This is not a question in my mind as a doubt

but an explanation that comes to one’s

mind. This question was asked in a Rotract

installation at our club and we had several

interesting answers like ‘I wanted to enjoy’,

‘I wanted to give back society what society

has done for me’ and ‘I needed a platform

to showcase my talents and skills’. when

one thinks of these answers, we all agree to

all the answers and as it has been rightfully

said, it all points to Fellowships, which is

the soul of Rotary.

We all await the saturday eve as it is the

time to meet all our friends who come from

different status and class on the same

horizon despite their busy schedules..We

are lucky to have joined Rotary & earn

friends forever!

This is a District event we are hosting at Adventure

Plus, opposite Bhatgar Dam,Bhor, a 100 Acre space

for the event. The details are on flyers and emails.

We are having more than 24 games, welcome

drinks, snacks, heavy veg & non Veg lunch with

farewell snacks and tea!

We have two events to participate and win

fabulous prizes :

1) Rotary Kalashree award & 2) Hawaiian Theme

Birthdays in August:

Rotary International Tips for Membership Growth

Eight years ago, Géné Villaça-Crestia was asked by herdistrict governor to start a new Rotary club in hercountry, Benin.

She had been a Rotarian for only four years and didn’treally know where to begin. But she had a few thingsworking in her favor: Villaça-Crestia is extremelypassionate about Rotary, and she doesn’t take no for ananswer.

“I don’t hesitate to drive to people’s places and comeback again,” says Villaça-Crestia of her recruitment style.“I don’t wait for them to get back to me and tell me theydon’t have time. I insist and go after them until theyunderstand what Rotary is all about and the good it willdo them to join.”

Villaça-Crestia’s techniques have been extremelyeffective. Within three months of her district governor’srequest, she helped launch the Rotary Club of CotonouRive Gauche, Benin, and became the charter president.During the next two years, she helped form three otherclubs, including two composed almost entirely ofyounger Rotarians.

This year, she and her son, Boris Crestia, have teamed upto recruit advertising, public relations, and media

professionals for another new club, which willsoon be seeking its charter. Members have setgoals of promoting basic education and literacyin Africa and serving as a public relationsresource for other clubs.

Be passionate and persistent

Villaça-Crestia says the key to recruiting newmembers is to show them how passionate youare about Rotary and be persistent.

“People say they came to Rotary because theyfelt my passion and I could communicate it tothem,” she says. “In this state of mind, anychallenge is never really impossible.

“More than once, I had to wait hours in areception area in order to meet an important orbusy person and be able to convince them to joinRotary or give to The Rotary Foundation,” sheadds. “But when you just explain to people, forinstance, that the same money they pay for a nicemeal in a good restaurant could help immunize agreat number of families against polio, mostpeople are sensitive to this and reactimmediately.’’

Villaça-Crestia says her favorite thing to say toprospective members is that by being Rotarians, they can be a bridge between the millions ofdollars available through The Rotary Foundationand the poorest populations of the world.“Knowing that, and not becoming a Rotarian, isalmost criminal,” she says.

Share your passion for Rotary with your family, friends, and community during Membership andExtension Month in August. This year you’reinvited to take part in two activities designed tohelp you remember why you joined and convertthat excitement into inviting others to join.

By taking the Rotary Membership Challenge, youcommit to sponsor a new member, tell a friend orcolleague about your club’s projects, orvolunteer as a mentor to prospective or newmembers. After you complete the form, Rotarywill email you links to resources to help you meetthe challenge.
