DARTMOOR PRESERVATION ASSOCIATION (The Friends of Dartmoor) Self-employed ecologist/land manager A few hours per week. Hourly rate to be agreed depending on experience. Start late summer/autumn 2020. The DPA is a long-established charity owning four pieces of land on Dartmoor where we undertake management for nature and archaeological conservation. This is overseen by a land management group of trustees and volunteers, with advice and oversight from an ecologist. WORK DESCRIPTION The work of the ecologist comprises: Writing, updating as required and overseeing implementation of management plans Organisation of land management group (LMG) meetings once or twice a year, preparation and monitoring of agreed budgets and liaison with the LMG and others between meetings as required Planning and overseeing of volunteer work parties and other site- based activities (approximately 12-14 days p.a. The ecologist will attend some, but not all of these) Appointing and overseeing the work of contractors carrying out work on DPA sites Organise surveys, collate species records and maintain records of work carried out Preparation of applications for grants for agri-environment and other schemes Liaison with other professionals and local organisations, also farmers and graziers ORGANISATION We are looking for someone who will enjoy a varied role, who can work flexibly with volunteers, professionals, and third parties and who is looking for a relatively small amount of work, but who is able to respond quickly when required and is available at evenings and weekends from time to time. Some work will take place on site and some will be home/office based. A mileage allowance will be paid for site and other visits. Ability to work alone and unsupported

First aid qualification or willingness to undertake training
