The D.A.S. systems continue their unstoppable ascent in live sound. From massive music festivals to major sporting events, clients around the world have put our systems to the test. Throughout endless hours of operation, in adverse ambient conditions and in countless operations of set-up and tear-down, D.A.S. systems have proven to be a very wise investment. Exceptional performance, high reliability, quick rigging and a space saving truck-pack are just a few of the reasons that have made them the choice of professionals demanding impressive sound and road worthiness.

We’ve been alongside our clients and their sound systems. D.A.S. engineers have travelled the globe to provide technical support or when needed, just a helping hand. They’ve used their in-depth knowledge of live sound and their unique insight of D.A.S. products to make sure that each and every event has been a rewarding experience for everyone involved. Supporting our products and the professionals who use them is a significant attribute and we realize its importance in forging long-term relationships.

“D.A.S. Live” highlights the events and the people who have made them a reality. We sincerely appreciate their commitment, their loyalty to D.A.S. and above all, their passion for live sound. We thank them for their generosity in giving us the opportunity to be a key part of the “great moments” in live sound.

Introduction

D.A.S. “Live”

Viña Rock / Albacete (Spain)

Native Artin AlbaceteD.A.S. was back for the second year running at Viña Rock in Albacete with its Aerosystems, which performed flawlessly throughout the inclement weather to bring the festival’s loyal fans an unforgettablefestival experience.

The name Viña Rock was created in 1996 when a group of young music lovers met with Villarrobledo’s Culture Councilor to organize a local “native-art” music festival, basing the name on the area’s over 32,000 hectares of vineyards. For 16 years the Annual Viña Rock Native Art Festival in Villarrobledo, Albacete, has served to bring together different cultures and groups with a range of musical styles in an event that highlights an eclectic mix of artists and performers. Rock and reggae met metal and electronic over the course of this year’s four day festival, and more than 200,000 spectators descended on Villarrobledo this year to enjoy the explosive line-up, which included national and international headliners like Barricada, Ojos de Brujo, Rosendo, Huecco and the legendary Barón Rojo.

Sound reinforcement company Acústica teamed up with D.A.S. Audio for the sound installation. The team opted to install D.A.S. systems on the two main stages, Legendario and Villarrobledo. Because of the stages’ side-by-side setup and their alternate use, sound technicians got creative and installed the sound for both stages in a rarely used configuration. Setting up a central formation to be “shared” by both stages, the Legendario stage left PA formation was the right PA formation for the Villarrobledo stage during its alternative use. Spectators could thus enjoy their favorite artists with powerful, resounding and clear sound (despite the inclement weather), provided once again by D.A.S. professional audio systems.

Altavoz / Medellin (Colombia)

Something for Everyone in MedellinD.A.S. Systems played a key role in making Altavoz, one of Columbia’s biggest festivals, into a huge success. Festival organizers were completely satisfied with the results, the bands were pleased with the performances and top quality sound, and the crowd loved every minute of the three day festival.

Music enthusiasts of every popular genre had the opportunity to enjoy live performances of their favorite artists at Colombia’s Altavoz festival, which celebrated its eighth anniversary this year. Roughly 80,000 fans packed Medellin’s Estadio Cincuentenario - a large multipurpose arena and surrounding grounds that serves as home to a variety of sports and entertainment events - to see their favorite performers live and up close. The lineup included Mexico’s alternative rock band Plastilina Mosh and Latin Grammy Award-winning rockers Molotov, the English punk band The Adicts, as well as Argentina’s Bajo Fondo Tango Club. The three-day festival made Medellin history as more than 35 bands crossed the stage to bring the crowds the best in alternative rock, hip hop, heavy metal and punk. Entrance to the event was completely free and the entire festival was a huge success for organizers, bands, and the thousands of fans.

Massive ResponseThe sound reinforcement system assembled for the huge crowd was no small undertaking. Medellin-based Hangar Musical—whose technical producer Santiago Velez headed the installation at Altavoz—deployed a sizeable loudspeaker setup consisting of units from the D.A.S. Aero and Aero 2 series. “The greatest difficulty with a festival like this is the variety of genres the system had to accommodate—not to exclude the requirements of the various artists,” Velez reported. “This is where a flat, well balanced system is essential in order to please everyone. This is precisely why the DAS Audio system was a perfect choice.”

The Equipment PA Tops: 32 Aero 38A powered line arrays, 16 per side.

PA Subs: 12 Aero 182 subwoofers + 12 LX-218Apowered subwoofers in stacks of 12 per side.

Primavera Sound / Barcelona (Spain)

Coherence,Eclecticismand InnovationFestival lovers know that when the weather starts to get warm it’s time to get ready for Barcelona’s Primavera Sound, a series of pop, rock and dance music concerts that the city holds each Spring. This year, new soundlimitations highlighted the versatility and adaptability of the D.A.S. Aero Series 2systems.

Barcelona has hosted the Primavera Sound Festival since 2001. Venues are set up across the city – from the central Arco del Triunfo to the beachside Forum – and for five days Barcelona converts itself into the epicenter of spring music festivals. More than 100,000 music lovers descend upon the Mediterranean city for this “must attend” event that promotes coherence, eclecticism and innovation, and the stages set up at the Arco del Triunfo and the Forum see constant traffic over the course of the festival. Thousands of fans packed into these two outdoor venues to see 2012 headliners like Nacho Vegas, Black Lips or Richard Hawley (Arco de Triunfo) or Absynthe Minded, Astro or Lovely Bad Things (Forum).

Limited But Unmistakably “Live”D.A.S. Audio Event Engineer and head tech for the event Joel Damiano ran the sound installation at the Arco del Triunfo and Forum stages this year. Adaptability was crucial: the sound system had to work for performances ranging from rock and indie pop to jazz and electronic music. New sound laws created an additional challenge for the sound technicians, who knew that they couldn’t let the limitations affect sound quality. D.A.S. Aero Series 2 systems met the rigid requirements perfectly, providing superb sound quality and keeping that “live” feeling, while working within the restrictions of the new law. As Damiano reflected, “the technicians adapted better than what was expected, as they are all aware that avoiding hazardous sound pressure levels is good for everyone.”

India Festivals / Pune (India)

The Best ofthe Best in IndiaThanks to top-notch production quality and an exciting lineup, artists and audiences agree that India’s three-day Bacardi NH7 Weekender and the Eristoff Invasion Festival are two of the best festivals around.

The second edition of the Bacardi NH7 Weekender, voted “India’s best music festival” by CNNGo, was celebrated for three days at the Lawns near Magarpatta City, Pune. Five stages and a host of other attractions brought in over 25,000 fans who packed into the seven-hectare space for this year’s festival. Basement Jaxx and Imogen Heap headlined an impressive lineup that represented some of the best in rock, metal, indie and ethnic fusion.

At Amanora Park Town, the second installment of this year’s Eristoff Invasion Festival took place with one the world’s foremost music makers, DJ David Guetta, as the show’s headlining act. Bakshi (aka Dualist Inquiry) started the festival off right with his opening set, which gave the artist a chance to expose his music to newer audiences in India. But it was Guetta who made the night with his chart-topping hits like When Love Takes Over, Gettin’ Over You and Sexy Bitch that had the festival’s capacity crowds celebrating in a big way.

BamaJam 2012 Thrives With Major Headlining PerformersAllstar Audio Systems meets this year’slogistical and technical challenges head on for this massive sound project and three-day show that was created to celebrate the human spirit through music

For three wild days and nights in June BamaJam 2012 fired up the area just north of Enterprise, Alabama with an impressive display of lights, video and music. The multi-genre festival is held on the 1,600 acre grounds of BamaJam Farms, where over 35,000 music enthusiasts from all over the south eastern United States converged to revel in the sounds of more than 50 of the biggest acts in the industry that included the Zac Brown Band, Sheryl Crow and Kid Rock. Despite the inclement weather on opening day fans packed the huge festival grounds at night to rock to country music headliners Tim McGraw and Eric Church. With three stages spread across the festival grounds—one of which was a double stage that alternated acts on each half—along with a wealth of lighting and video displays, the logistical and technical aspects of bringing BamaJam 2012 to life were nothing short of massive.

Large-Scale CollaborationSmyrna, Tennessee-based Allstar Audio Systems, Inc. President and founder Mike Borne was hired as production manager to handle all staging at BamaJam: sound, lighting, video, cameras, loading docks, technicians, stage crew, and backline. Backed by the professionals at MSR - Mobile Stage Rentals, 14 trucks of stages and production equipment were rolled in to make the festival happen. “Numerous people on the crew were impressed with D.A.S. Audio’s hardware,” Borne continued. “The line arrays’ hardware is all fully integrated, so not only did the systems go up and tear down quickly, they also conserved space and made for very efficient truck pack. This entire show was a huge undertaking and yet we erected everything, including stages, in three days and it came down in one.”

A Perfect Cocktailof Sun and FunFour days, four stages, and more than 100 artists have turned the Festival Internacional de Benicasim (Benicasim Music Festival), better known as FIB, into one of the best summer music events on Europe’s festival circuit.

Though especially popular among British fans, the FIB festival brings in “fibbers” from all corners of the world with its perfect combination of sun and fun: four nights of concerts top nine days of camping at a festival that includes not only music but art, theatre, cinema and dance that spill onto the streets and beaches of the Benicasim. Upwards of 40,000 fans descended upon the idyllic Mediterranean venue for this year’s festival, where notable artists and groups like Dave Clark, La Habitación Roja and Damian Schwartz played at the huge Trident Senses stage, while groups as diverse as Howler and Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs rocked fans at the FIB Club stage.

Decibels, Jumps and a Passion for MotorcyclesEuropean Supercross fans descended on the German city of Dortmund to attend an event that has become a classic in the gripping world of motorsport. D.A.S. products were able to provide powerful sound and perfect word intelligibility even amidst the roar of the motors.

Over the course of the championship more than 28,000 visitors packed into the Westfalenhallen exhibition center in Dortmund, which was transformed into a complicated track designed to showcase the world’s best Supercross racers as they made the complicated look easy. It was an exciting weekend that combined the hard-core competitiveness of Supercross with freestyle acrobatics.

The covered elliptical-shaped pavilion was filled with close to 10,000 spectators each day. Fans could watch the track racing in close detail thanks to an array of LED screens hung in the centre of the venue as well as enjoy musical clips, announcements, commentary, information, interviews and the awards presentation that closed each show.

The quality of sound, noted by organizers and spectators alike, was made possible by Lars Schnier, who worked hand-in-hand with Soundart GmbH & Co KG, asertec-Showlaser and HWS Veranstaltungstechnik.

Music for All Tastes and TendenciesBenidorm’s Low Cost Festival presented a unique set of challenges for the sound team. An event and audience of this magnitude couldn’t be contained in just one area, so two stages were set up on the venue’s grounds. Each stage required at least five different sound setups each night, and it was here that the D.A.S. Audio systems really showed their chops. Thanks to the easy handling and adaptability of the D.A.S. Aero 50s sound techs were able to keep the setup between performers down to a minimum, guaranteeing that the party never stopped for Low Cost’s tens of thousands of fans.

D.A.S. Audio Systems at the Cosquín Folk Festival for the Sixth Year Running11,000 fans attended Cosquín’s annualFolklore Festival, where large format D.A.S. Aero 50 systems shared the stage with a range of the industry’s most important artists and performers.

This year marked the 52nd annual celebration of Argentina’s Cosquín National Folklore Festival, and D.A.S. professional sound systems were once again on hand to provide top notch sound for the spectators who packed into Latin America’s most important folk festival. Renowned artists including Jorge Rojas, Soledad Pastorutti and León Gieco took the main stage at Cosquín’s Próspero Molina plaza over the course of Cosquín’s nine “lunas” (moons), as the festival evenings are called. Marti Audio once again headed the sound installation for the event for the sixth year running and, as in previous years, D.A.S. line array systems were selected for the project. The pressure was on: the festival is broadcast live both nationally in Argentina as well as in neighbouring countries. To guarantee flawless sound the huge 50-metre wide stage and surrounding plaza was fitted out with an army of Aero 50 line array systems.“Since we had such great results we repeated the same set up as last year,” added Ariel Marti, company director who designs the distribution of the equipment used at Cosquín every year.

Known as the municipal territory’s “green metropolis” withits abundance of waterways and green spaces, the city also boasts the Westfalenhallenmulti-purpose exhibition hall, site of this year’s Dortmunder Music Week.

For six days in July, Dortmund hosted an international roster of some of the biggest acts in rock for the second annual Dortmunder Music Week. A different band was featured each night in a lineup that included such legendary names as the American groups Manowar and Incubus, England’s Mike & the Mechanics, and Germany’s own Adoro. Just weeks before the opening night organizers were scrambling to find the event a home: originally booked at Dortmund’s Signal Iduna Park football stadium, last minute scheduling conflicts resulted in an urgent search for venues. Yet the late change to Dortmund’s iconic Westfalenhallen 3A multi-purpose exhibition hall did little to deter thousands of concert-goers from descending on the city to see their favorite bands perform live.
