Data Link Service Areas
Data Link Challenge
We need to collaborate and focus on improving CPDLC performance.
13
Separation Reduction leads to efficient use of
airspace, cost savings for our customers and smaller environmental footprint
is dependent on improved Surveillance, Navigation and Communication

Improving Performance
Timely WILCO responses, used in performance measurements
Reduce/eliminate VHF retries in limited or non-VHF areas
Use of high speed SATCOM could bring substantial performance benefits
Improve network traffic distribution and performance
Improve internetworking between aircraft, satellite providers, service providers, and ATS units
15
Looking Forward Systems update to provide better
services include: CPDLC in Domestic airspace
ADS-C capabilities for Edmonton North Airspace
ADS-B on LEO Satellites for improved surveillance
Data Link Mandate
Separation reductions such as RLatSM (Business case analysis underway)
Tower Data Link capabilities
Better sharing of information between onboard and ATM Systems

Together we are striving for…
Safety First
Efficiency Improved Customer
Service
Reduced Greenhouse
Gas
Smaller Carbon
Footprint
Improvements in Avionics and Equipage
Improvements in Satellite and Communication Provider Service
Benefits to Customers
Increased safety, Preferred routes, Less fuel burn, Reduce costs, Smaller carbon footprint
