SecurSeal EDGE SEAL
SS-3199ES
A
NOTE: It is advisable to wipe the edge of the
laminate with isopropyl alcohol prior to applying
SecurSeal to remove anything finger oils, etc.
that may interfere with the bond.
SecurSeal (SS-3199ES) edge seal is a unique multi-layer polyurethane product specifically designed as
a protective membrane when laminated to the edge of a transparency.
SecurSeal (SS-3199ES) edge seal is a multi-layer
edge sealing polyurethane. The multi-layer
construction of the edge seal is (A) a diamond
pattern embossed polypropylene carrier. This carrier
will be removed following lamination. (B) is a layer of
proprietary black polyurethane. (C) is a clear layer of
aliphatic polyurethane which will permanently bond
to the edge of the laminate. All polyurethanes used
in SecurSeal are light stable aliphatic formulations.
Lamination Information:
SecurSeal (SS-3199ES) requires a minimum
lamination temperature of 195°F (90°C).
SecurSeal (SS-3199ES) edge seal is currently
available in many widths. (9mm - 1 meter)
Custom slit widths are available upon request or
SecurSeal is available in "Master" rolls [ 40"(1 meter)
x 120'(36.5m) ].
SecurSeal (SS-3199ES) does not require any specific
storage or handling. Keeping it clean and dry will
insure usable product.

SecurSeal EDGE SEAL
SS-3199ES
SecurSeal(SS-3199ES)Edge Seal must be used in conjunction with vacuum bag lamination.
SecurSeal (SS-3199ES), after autoclaving, will impart an attractive diamond pattern into the edge seal.
Following lay-up of your transparency:
1...Apply the SecurSeal (SS-3199ES) to the edge of the
laminate.
2...Secure the SecurSeal (SS-3199ES) where the ends meet by
means of tape.
3...Vacuum bag and laminate as you normally would.
4...Upon completion of the autoclave lamination allow the
laminate to cool to room temperature before extracting the
laminate from the vacuum bag.
5...Following the removal of the vacuum bagging and all
breather materials, remove the diamond pattern polypropylene
film from the SecurSeal (SS-3199ES) to expose the black
polyurethane edge seal product.

Product Flammability Information
The attached ASTM E-84 is for Scotchgard™ Removable Graphic and Surface Protection Film 8991R. Due to similar film construction, we expect Scotchgard™ Graphic and Surface Protection Film 8991 to have comparable results to Scotchgard™ Removable Graphic and Surface Protection Film 8991R.
After a material is subjected to the ASTM E-84 test, it is given a rating based on its performance
during the test. Materials are classified into one of three groups based on their tested flame
spread characteristics. These groups and their flame spread indexes are listed below:
Class Flame Spread Index
I (A) 0-25
II (B) 26-75
III (C) 76-200
Class I or (A) rating means it is the most fire resistant category that NFPA recognizes as
necessary for interior wall and ceiling finish materials. It will be acceptable in any building in
any locality that models its building code after NFPA 101 for wall or ceiling materials.
NFPA 101 is a code that provides minimum requirements for the design, operation and
maintenance of building and structures for safety to life from fire and similar emergencies. The
requirements differ depending on the type of building.
Many building codes require a smoke developed rating of 450 or less for building materials. The
Scotchgard™ Removable Graphic and Surface Protection Film 8991R meets the requirements of Class I (A) and the smoke developed rating of less than or equal to 450.
If you have any questions about the features or performance of this 3M product, please call
