Microsoft TFS to VSTS Migration Service

What is Visual Studio Team Services?Visual Studio Team Services (VSTS) is a Software-as-a-Service platform equivalent to on-premise Team Foundation Server (TFS) from Microsoft, delivering a comprehensive agile-based development environment in the cloud.

Prerequisites & Review We conduct an investigation into your existing TFS environment as well as any existing cloud setup available and discuss any prerequisites to ensure you have a smooth transition to VSTS.

Validate We can perform a validation against your TFS implementation including a collection validation and version compatibility check which will highlight any work that is required prior to migrating to VSTS. Identifying existing licencing will ensure you are taking full advantage of the new VSTS licencing model.

Prepare An end-to-end test system can be migrated prior to any production workload. During the prepare stage we will package your TFS database and complete configuration settings ready to be moved to the cloud platform. User Acceptance Testing (UAT) can then be performed on this test account prior to the production import.

Migrate Your TFS database and configuration is checked and uploaded to Microsoft’s VSTS platform. Once complete, your VSTS workspace becomes available for use as if you are still using TFS on-premise including all artefacts in your projects.

High Fidelity Migration Steps

Following the Microsoft best practice guidelines, a high fidelity database migration is preferred although a manual copy of important assets is also an option. After a health check and validation of the existing TFS environment we can review and help decide which is right for you. Before migration takes place, any pre-requisites can be assessed and implemented to ensure your migration goes as smoothly as possible.Worried about the migration risk and having to rollback? As well as a dry run migration prior to production, you can also simply re-attach the project collection in TFS and carry on as normal.
