PREAMBLE:

With the availability of extensive IT applications for every Business process automation and the revolution in social media for information exchange, today we are experiencing an exponential data growth.

This explosive Data growth presents new challenges in its storage and management.

The invention of technology and tools in Data Storage domain is addressing much of these challenges.

Thus, the modern IT Infrastructure of all the IT dependent organizations will include large and complex Data

Storage Infrastructure that needs to ensure 24x7 availability, on-demand scale of both capacity and performance.

There is a growing concern on Information Security, Protection, Archival and effective e-disposal.

All these and the ability of an organization to harvest latest technology for Business process efficiency presents a

global demand for IT and Storage Infrastructure management professionals.

Thus, the Data Storage Infrastructure management Professionals need to have a basic understanding and exposure

to real world deployment & management objectives.

Considering the above, it is essential for all the technical university and Institutions to introduce subject related to

Data Storage (SAN) for both UG & PG stream of Digital Branches

The ACADEMIC Response to this INDUSTRY demand

The Technical University (VTU) did introduce Data Storage basics subject as an elective for final

semester students of both PG (M Tech and MCA) and UG (BE in CS&E and IS) as part of 2010-2014

syllabus (Subject Code: 10MCA555 and 10CS765).

Also it is a core subject for PG Students M Tech in CNE (Subject Code:14SCN14) as per the latest

VTU syllabus of 2014.

Thus it is an opportunity for the INSTITUTE to maximize the same for the effective benefits to the

students.

This SAN subject present a great opportunity for the students to build the fundamentals on Data

Storage technology and Infrastructure with best practice of Data Management (Backup, Recovery,

Archival, Security etc) which will enable their employability.

THE OBJECTIVE:

It is time for the INSTITUTE to offer subject SAN to all the students and ensure every student will learn

this important subject basics and also able to aggregate better performance

THE APPROACH: Schedule and conduct awareness seminar on Data Storage technology, infrastructure,

importance, career opportunity by ensuring interactive discussion with the Industry professionals

Create great interest on the Storage subject to the Faculty team of the department of CS, IS and

MCA such that they can build the appropriate knowledge and passion to teach this subject Since Data Storage is an elective subject as per VTU, ensure appropriate practical exposure /

assignments to the students in the form of Workshops, Interactions, Industry visit etc

Create further opportunity of practical learning by providing their project work that includes Data

Storage management (along with / without Virtualization, Cloud computing, IT security etc) Create opportunity for short term Internship program on IT infrastructure management
