BasicsGetting Started with the

Pocket PC

A. Check to ensure the battery is installed (Std unit only)

Remove the battery cover from the back of the pocket pc, insert the battery and replace the battery cover

B. Charge the Pocket PC > Always do this! Connect the AC adapter (charger) to the

Pocket PC, plug the charger into a 110V ac outlet and allow to fully charge, it takes about 4 hours

C. Power on Press the Power Button to turn on the unit

BasicsGetting Started with the

• Install the batteries in the DataLogger®

Remove the battery cover from the top of the DataLogger®, insert the 2 “D” cell batteries and replace the battery cover

• Press the Multifunction Switch to turn the DataLogger on

DataLogger® LED Status Indicators

Blue• Flashing indicates the Bluetooth® is ready to

communicate with the Pocket PC

• Steady indicates the Bluetooth® has established communication with the Pocket PC

Tri-Color• Amber will only stay on less than 2 seconds,

indicating power-up initialization state

• Flashing Green indicates normal operation mode

• Flashing Red indicates data logging mode (active data transfer)

Once the batteries are installed and the multifunction switch is pressed 2 led lights will illuminate

Pressure Transducer Connection

• The Pressure Transducer is connected to the DataLogger® via a cable.

• The Pressure Transducer taps into the hydraulic system of the fusion machine using the supplied connection fittings and quick disconnect

Program

• Factory set-up, so it’s ready to log data

• Provides a user (MS Windows “like”) interface and joint reporting storage capability

• Uses an removable Secure Digital (SD) card for data redundancy on the standard Pocket Pc

• Uses an Compact Flash (CF) card for data redundancy on the Ruggedized Pocket Pc

Pocket PC Date and Time Settings

The date and time must be checked and correctly set to ensure accurate records of fusion joints:

A. Turn on the Pocket PCB. Tap Start > SettingsC. Tap the System tabD. Tap Clock & AlarmsE. Select the appropriate time and/or

date field and adjust the values until they are correct

Use of the DataLogger®to Log a Joint

• Attach the DataLogger® to the Machine

• Use the connector kit provided to attach the DataLogger® to the hydraulic system of the machine

• Power-up the DataLogger®

• Power-up the Pocket PC (iPAQ or Recon)

• Use the DataLogger® to measure the heater temperature• Aim the DataLogger® at the heater

plate, press the black button and move the DataLogger® toward the heater until the 2 red dots merge into one

• Tap the Log/Status menu item to open the Log/Status dialog box

• The Log/Status dialog box Provides status info including PPC battery level, DataLogger ® battery status, pressure transducer and temperature readings and logging status• Tap the Connect button to initiate a connection with the DataLogger® before continuing

Using the DataLogger to Measure and Record Heater Temperature

• Tap the Next button to continue to the Heater Temperature dialog box• To measure heater

temperature, hold the top of the DataLogger® about 4 inches for the heater plate, pointing the temp sensor at the heater plate. Press and hold the DataLogger® switch, which turns on the guidance lasers. Adjust until the 2 laser beams converge to a single point. Use the PPC screen to read the temperature

• Once the temp is stable, release the DataLogger® multifunction switch to record the temperature.

• Notice the temp box flashes to indicate recorded temperature

Using the PPC to Initiate the Data Logging Process

• Tap the START button on the Pocket PC to initiate the data logging process

• Note: The is a slight delay (3-5) seconds as the software sets up the procedure. Watch the PPC and wait for the STOP WATCH to begin before closing the carriage on the heater

Using the PPC to STOP the Data Logging Process

• Follow the prescribed methods to heat, fuse and cool the pipe.

• Once the pipe fusion processes are complete; Tap the STOP button on the PPC to complete the data logging process. Note: Always stop logging before opening the carriage. Otherwise, an unintended change in pressure will be introduced at the end of the joint report graph

Downloading the Joint Report into the Pocket PC

• Once you have confirmed the STOP command, a dialog box will appear that shows that “Logging stopped”

• Next the program will automatically begin the process of downloading the joint report into the PPC. Note: Do not turn-off the DataLogger® or the Pocket PC until the download is complete.

Reading and Analyzing Data

• The joint report will be displayed upon the completion of the download.

• 1a and 1b presents information related to the joint, e.g. date, joint number, operator, etc.

• 2 presents the front end plot which shows the shift-sequence into the soak cycle. The summary plot shows the entire fusion process from end-to-end.

Reading and Analyzing Data

• The Front-end Plots shows the result of a fusion that was made incorrectly. The plot highlights the occurrence of a bad shift sequence. The plot indicates that the pressure dropped off too slowly

• The Summary Plot shows that the rest of the processes followed were OK. Unfortunately the joint is bad due to the incorrect shift sequence, it will need to be cut out

Communications

Check to see if the Pocket Pc Bluetooth® radio is turned on... The HP iPAQ rx 3115 Pocket PC has a Blue LED on the top left corner, it should be lit and the wireless icon should appear in the lower right corner of the screen (circled in red). If the Bluetooth® radio is not on perform the following steps:

A. Tap Start > iPAQ WirelessB. Tap on the Bluetooth® icon to turn it onC. The operation is complete, Bluetooth is

turned on

Steps To Follow ToRestore the McElroy DL3-PPC

Program

1. Tap on Start to display the main menu

2. Install the DL-3 PPC application (program)

a. Tap Programs tab > File Explorer

b. Tap on the Pocket PC Icon next to My Documents (Green Arrow)

c. When the drop down menu appears, tap on My Device

d. Tap on the SD Card or Storage Card

e. Tap on the PPC Setup Files folder

f. Tap on the DL-3 PPC Setup file to install the program

3. The setup program will run automatically and display the installation progress
