Tellabs ® 6325 Wavelength Division Multiplexing Node DATA SHEET Introduction Both fixed and mobile networks face increasing demand for more transport bandwidth at lower cost. This is primarily driven by the extensive growth in packet-based services. The Tellabs ® 6325 Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) Node offers a cost-effi- cient way to expand capacity in access and regional networks. The node works on a “pay as you grow” basis by keeping start-up costs at a minimum. At the same time, it offers a carrier class product with extensive OAM capabilities for easy and reliable operation and maintenance. Efficient Utilization of Fibers The latest generation of WDM technology allows operators to expand the capacity of their existing fiber infrastructure in a smooth and cost-efficient way. This is especially beneficial for operators leasing fibers from third parties or who have network elements that cannot expand to higher capacity cost-efficiently. Leasing additional fibers or inducing more network elements may be much more costly than adding just another color to the existing fibers. The Tellabs ® 6325 WDM node is designed for such applications. This 1 RU node can multiplex up to 15 lambdas onto a single fiber pair. Pay as You Grow The Tellabs 6325 WDM node offers a cost-efficient solution even when just a few lambdas are used. In access/metro applications, the distances between POP sites, or between a POP site and the end users, are typically not that long. Lambdas can often pass several spans without being amplified. Modules with a single add/ drop of specific channels support this setup. All other colors are just passed through the add/drop node. DWDM or Repeaters for Longer Distances Even for regional networks with longer distances between sites, the Tellabs 6325 WDM node is a viable choice. DWDM versions of multiplexers can be applied and the line signal amplified using cost-efficient booster amplifiers. By this design, the Tellabs 6325 WDM node can reach up to 120 km on a single span with eight DWDM channels. If it is necessary for a signal to pass several spans over longer distances, the signals are just repeated in dedicated transponder/ repeater modules. This also provides the possibility of shifting the wavelength and thus gives more flexibility for network expansion into more complex network topologies than simple links or rings. Transparent and Independent As the Tellabs 6325 WDM node offers full transparency to the client signals, it offers a safe upgrade path for existing networks, with the flexibility to support future requirements for services and overlay networks as required. Multiple Services The Tellabs 6325 WDM node allows transport of multiple types of services on one fiber pair. It can carry Gigabit Ethernet, Fibre Channel and SDH/SONET transparently across the network. Muxponder modules make it possible to multiplex several services onto one lambda; for example, Gigabit Ethernet and Fibre Channels can be mapped into SDH using GFP-T and multiplexed onto just a single STM-16 lambda. The Tellabs 6325 WDM node offers all the advantages of the award-winning, MEF-certified and field-proven Tellabs ® 6325 Edge Node. As both nodes are based on the same subrack and Embedded Software, the following services are provided in combined node configurations: transparent WDM multiplexing, T-MPLS-based Ethernet Switching, fully protected SDH switching and PDH transport. End-to-end Management The Tellabs 6325 WDM node is a true carrier class product that offers full end-to-end management — for both traffic provisioning as well as Fault and Performance Management. As both client and line signals are monitored, it is easy to track failures or deteriorations of the network. Tellabs ® 6325 Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) Node

Data sheet

IntroductionBoth fixed and mobile networks face increasing demand for more transport bandwidth at lower cost. This is primarily driven by the extensive growth in packet-based services. The Tellabs® 6325 Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) Node offers a cost-effi-cient way to expand capacity in access and regional networks. The node works on a “pay as you grow” basis by keeping start-up costs at a minimum. At the same time, it offers a carrier class product with extensive OAM capabilities for easy and reliable operation and maintenance.

Efficient Utilization of FibersThe latest generation of WDM technology allows operators to expand the capacity of their existing fiber infrastructure in a smooth and cost-efficient way. This is especially beneficial for operators leasing fibers from third parties or who have network elements that cannot expand to higher capacity cost-efficiently. Leasing additional fibers or inducing more network elements may be much more costly than adding just another color to the existing fibers.

The Tellabs® 6325 WDM node is designed for such applications. This 1 RU node can multiplex up to 15 lambdas onto a single fiber pair.

Pay as You GrowThe Tellabs 6325 WDM node offers a cost-efficient solution even when just a few lambdas are used. In access/metro applications, the distances between POP sites, or between a POP site and the end users, are typically not that long. Lambdas can often pass several spans without being amplified. Modules with a single add/drop of specific channels support this setup. All other colors are just passed through the add/drop node.

DWDM or Repeaters for Longer DistancesEven for regional networks with longer distances between sites, the Tellabs 6325 WDM node is a viable choice. DWDM versions of multiplexers can be applied and the line signal amplified using cost-efficient booster amplifiers. By this design, the Tellabs 6325 WDM node can reach up to 120 km on a single span with eight DWDM channels.

If it is necessary for a signal to pass several spans over longer distances, the signals are just repeated in dedicated transponder/repeater modules. This also provides the possibility of shifting the wavelength and thus gives more flexibility for network expansion into more complex network topologies than simple links or rings.

Transparent and IndependentAs the Tellabs 6325 WDM node offers full transparency to the client signals, it offers a safe upgrade path for existing networks, with the flexibility to support future requirements for services and overlay networks as required.

Multiple ServicesThe Tellabs 6325 WDM node allows transport of multiple types of services on one fiber pair. The Tellabs 6325 WDM node offers all the advantages of the award-winning, MEF-certified and field-proven Tellabs® 6325 Edge Node. As both nodes are based on the same subrack and Embedded Software, the following services are provided in combined node configurations: transparent WDM multiplexing, T-MPLS-based Ethernet Switching, fully protected SDH switching and PDH transport.

End-to-end ManagementThe Tellabs 6325 WDM node is a true carrier class product that offers full end-to-end management — for both traffic provisioning as well as Fault and Performance Management. As both client and line signals are monitored, it is easy to track failures or deteriorations of the network.
