    The Microsoft

Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) Suites are part of Microsofts broad desktop virtualization offering and

allow customers to centralize the storage, execution and management of a Windows desktop in the data center. Designed

for low-complexity VDI environments, they are end-to-end Microsoft virtualization solutions enabling Windows

    7 and othe

desktop environments to run and be managed in virtual machines on a centralized server.

For many organizations, virtualizing desktops within the datacenter is seen as an excellent means to provide a centrally

managed Windows desktop to connected users. Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (or VDI) is a fast emerging desktop

deployment option for organizations looking to provide a personalized central desktop experience to their users. Key

benefits of a centralized desktop strategy with VDI include better business agility, increased data security and simplified

regulatory compliance, as well as easy and efficient management of the desktop OS and applications.

    Microsoft VDI Suite Benefits

BUSINESS AGILITY ANDCONTINUITY ACCESS, DATA SECURITY AND COMPLIANCE MANAGEMENT OFCENTRALIZED DESKTOPS

    The Microsoft VDI Suites

    accelerate and extend the

    deployment and update of

    desktops and applications to

    a wide array of client

    devices, helping make your

    organization more agile and

    responsive. They also enable

    flexible work scenarios such

    as hot-desking and workingfrom home.

The Microsoft VDI Suites help simplify remote

connectivity, enabling rich desktops and applications to be

accessed from any authorized device at virtually any time.

Since the users applications and data never leave the

datacenter, VDI becomes a preferred way to deliver a

highly secure desktop to user devices, even unmanaged

devices such as those belonging to contract workers or

employee owned PCs. With the help of VDI Suites,

organizations keep critical intellectual property highly

secure and help radically simplify regulatory complianceby removing applications and data from the desktop.

    With the Microsoft VDI

    Suites, organizations have

    the ability to provide a

    centrally managed Windows

    desktop to connected users.

    Both end users and IT

    departments benefit from a

    much improved desktop life

    cycle management, allowing

for an easy roll-out ofpatches and upgrades.

VDI is best suited for contract and offshore workers, for users who need flexible access to their work environment, including

from a non-company owned PC, as well as branch office workers. Session virtualization, formerly referred to as Terminal

Services, is another deployment option to centralize entire desktops or individual applications, and has been widely adopted

in the industry. While offering the user less personalization of the desktop than VDI, it allows for higher user density on the

host. Session virtualization is available to Microsoft customers either through the VDI Premium Suite or Windows Server

    2008 R2 Remote Desktop Services.

    Microsoft VDI Suite Feature Overview

The Microsoft VDI Suites are a carefully matched combination of Microsofts latest innovations in the areas of hypervisor-

based virtualization, integrated management of applications and the operating system, and remote access technologies for

low-complexity VDI environments. For complete licensing of VDI access devices, the VDI Suites are complemented by

Microsoft Software Assurance for Windows or by Windows Virtual Desktop Access (Windows VDA) for non-SA devices.
