Sometimes it is for a legitimate cause like an orphaned child, or a penniless widow trying to raise money for a funeral, and yet, that is not always the case. Consider the “curious case of Demetrios Hrysikos.” This South Carolina man was distraught with another celebrity death when Carrie Fisher passed away last week. He attributed her demise to the “celebrity curse of 2016.” Even though dozens of celebrities die every year, the passing of Carrie Fisher, Alan Thicke, and others at a relatively younger age has reminded people of our mortality. Hyrsikos wanted to “do his part” to fight the curse, so he started a “GoFundMe” page to raise money to “protect Betty White from the celebrity curse of 2016.” The most curious aspect was that after just 16 hours of the post, he had already collected $1700 for his “cause.” If she decided to try to get by without his help, he promised to donate the money to charity. While there really is no such thing as a “celebrity curse,” death is referred to in scripture as the enemy, it resulted from the curse of sin. The statistics are very grim, one out of every one person born will die. The good news is that death is a defeated enemy because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Eternal life is available to all who believe. Only God knows who will, or who will not die in the new year, but the good news for believers is “to live is Christ, but to die is gain.” Rick Felicity Christian Church 847 State Route 133 P.O. One of the helpful things about the Internet is the

“GoFundMe” site where people with “causes” ask for help to

raise money. Sometimes it is for a legitimate cause like an

orphaned child, or a penniless widow trying to raise money for

a funeral, and yet, that is not always the case. Consider the

“curious case of Demetrios Hrysikos.”

This South Carolina man was distraught with another

celebrity death when Carrie Fisher passed away last week. He

attributed her demise to the “celebrity curse of 2016.” Even

though dozens of celebrities die every year, the passing of

Carrie Fisher, Alan Thicke, and others at a relatively younger

age has reminded people of our mortality. Hyrsikos wanted to

“do his part” to fight the curse, so he started a “GoFundMe”

page to raise money to “protect Betty White from the celebrity

curse of 2016.” The most curious aspect was that after just 16

hours of the post, he had already collected $1700 for his

“cause.” If she decided to try to get by without his help, he

promised to donate the money to charity.

While there really is no such thing as a “celebrity curse,”

death is referred to in scripture as the enemy, it resulted from

the curse of sin. The statistics are very grim, one out of every

one person born will die. The good news is that death is a

defeated enemy because of the resurrection of Jesus

Christ. Eternal life is available to all who believe.

Only God knows who will, or who will not die in the new

year, but the good news for believers is “to live is Christ, but to

die is gain.”
