DATE TO REMEMBER: College Production Wednesday 18th September
——————————————————
Vale—James Cartwright
College staff and students were saddened
to hear of the tragic passing of a much
respected parent of the college last week.
James Cartwright was a terrific supporter
of the college and was a valued member
of our community. Our thoughts are with
Lynda, Jo, Hugh, Ned, family and friends
at this time.
——————————————————— We had a beautiful farewell breakfast for college chaplain Sue Allen yesterday morning, in which we saw the multi-purpose room ‘chock-a-block’ full of stu-dents, staff and wider community members attending to thank Sue for her dedication to the college over the past 12 years. Yr 8 student Makayla S spoke beautifully on behalf of the students, with Margaret S also speaking on behalf of the breakfast program volunteers and Wendy T speak-ing on behalf of college staff. Sue has been a tremendous asset to the college and wider community over the past 12 years and we wish her all of the very best with her future work. Thankyou Sue!!! This week has seen our year 10 and 11 students undertake work experience in Bendigo, Melbourne and surrounding are-as. Reports back so far have been very positive with the students displaying a ter-rific work ethic and also having a great time in the process. We very much appre-ciate the care and generosity of all busi-nesses who have hosted our students and wish to extend thanks to them all.
As part of the first steps of our Capital
Building Works, we are currently complet-
ing documentation around the teaching
and learning at East Loddon. Myself and
Mr Wilkinson met with Bruce Corrie
(Regional Office Rep) and Barry Goode
(Technical Leadership Coach and former
Golden Square Primary Principal) on Mon-
day to take a comprehensive look at the
current layout of our college, with our lead-
ership team also being briefed on the work
that lays ahead. Our actual building works
will begin in September of 2020, with much
discussion, planning and documentation to
be completed between now and then.
These are very exciting times for the col-
lege and as we work our way through the
process, we are very keen to get as much
feedback as possible. At this stage, I am
keen on hearing from the community about
what makes East Loddon P-12 College
unique. Please forward any feedback to
the office or email it to me at
A reminder is extended to all of the
2:30pm finish tomorrow for the end of
term. Please adjust all bus pick-up times
by one full hour.
I hope that all students are able to have a
relaxing holiday break and that they return
refreshed and ready for a big term 3. Bring
on the college production!
Take care!
Regards, Steve Leed
Reader’s Notebook
Our reader’s notebooks this
fortnight have focused on the
structure of a story (narrative).
The juniors have been complet-
ing a summary using the
‘Somebody wanted… but… so…
then…’ structure.
Towards middle years, the focus
has been on the setting, problem
& solution. Seniors have put the
storyline on a graph & explained
how the tension develops.
See if your child can summarise
their reading, or a movie, using
these tools.
Literacy & Numeracy in all
classes
As teachers, we often find our
subjects overlapping with others.
This is always a great opportuni-
ty to enhance student learning.
Did you know that our teachers
outline their topics at the begin-
ning of each year so we can look
for ways to work together? For
example, Art often uses books
from English classes as inspira-
tion for their artworks. Geogra-
phy often includes creating tal-
lies, graphs & percentages.
Technology involves a significant
amount of measurement & calcu-
lations.
If you’d like to know more about
how we aim to work together
across subjects, please contact
me.

Year 11 and 12 Agriculture and Horti-culture community pH soil testing: In term three our VCE Agriculture and Horticulture students will be conducting a community wide soil pH project. Our hope is to visit as many farms as possible over this time to test, assess and map the soil pH across the East Loddon area. We are inviting any interested community mem-bers to please get in touch as we begin to plan this exciting project. Please note, data will remain confidential within the class, unless permission is given for this to be shared. If you are interested in offer-ing your land for this project, contact us as soon as possible via phone or email. Thanks in advance for your support and participation! College Production
This year’s production of Alice in Wonderland will be held on Wednesday 18th of September 2019. It will feature a matinee performance and an evening performance on this day (times and other details to come next term). All students from Prep-Year 12 are involved in our college production and will be required at school throughout the school day and will need to return to school for the evening perfor-mance. If your child/ren will not be able to at-tend for unavoidable clashes, please let Ms Harrington know as soon as possible via the college office or email ([email protected]). Students will bring home a costume list for the production on Friday. Should you have difficul-ty providing the items listed for your child/ren, please contact the school as early in Term 3 as possible so that we can ask other families if
they have clothes that could be borrowed. Tomorrow is also an out of uniform day to raise funds for additional costumes and props for the production. Please support our cause by donating a $2 donation per student in exchange for the privilege of wearing casual clothes. This will ensure that families only need to supply ‘the ba-sics’ included in the letter sent home to-morrow.
Weeks such as the last are
not always easy and I’m
sure most of us have spent
at least part of it reflecting
and thinking about topics
other than Maths and Eng-
lish. I’d like to pay special
mention to some people
who have made my last
week more palatable. Some
have even made me laugh.
Ruby G—year 1.. In a sea of
faces not knowing how to
act, Ruby approached me in
the yard to ask if I wanted to
hear her book about mer-
maids. She found us a seat
in the yard and read beauti-
fully, pointing out that it was-
n't her handwriting, ‘it was
typed’. I laughed a lot.
Thanks Ruby!
Paige, Emily and Georgia,-
year 4, see photo above,
(Georgia was hiding) . Of-
ten these girls come in to
my office at recess and
tease me. It’s fun and they
have little respect for me,
but they make me laugh. It
would be nice if they’d clean
my desk though.
Finally to our staff and wider
community at East Loddon.
What a privilege it is to work
at our school in the pad-
dock. You couldn’t hope to
work in a better place.
Vale James Cartwright.

Mr Leed is the principal at East
Loddon. He has always liked work-
ing with students and when he got
offered a job at East Loddon it
really attracted him because it was
prep to 12 .He also liked that it
was in the country and he grew up
in the country not far from East
Loddon. Mr Leed thought he would
come to the school for two years
but he fell in love with the place so
he stayed longer.
Mr Leed attended University at
Bendigo. He said that he wished
he had studied harder because he
enjoyed the University lifestyle.
Mr Leed applied for lots of posi-
tions to extend himself, like lead-
ership and higher positions so he
could better himself. He said he
applied for another Principal posi-
tion but his heart was not in it so
he then applied for the Principal
position at East Loddon because
he loves the school.
Before Mr Leed started teaching
he worked as a wool classer.
When he went overseas he did
lots of other jobs like, security
guard work, he worked on a plan-
tation, he also worked on a golf
course and did lots of other jobs.
He said he didn’t want to do any
teaching because he knew when
he came back to Australia he
would be teaching.
Mr Leed’s passions are his chil-
dren and spending time with them.
Every Saturday he likes mountain
bike riding with his mates, he en-
joys spending time with his friends
and he is very passionate about
people.
Mr Leed’s perfect day is when he is spending time with his daugh-ters on weekends making pan-cakes on a Saturday and croissant on a Sunday, watching them play sport and hanging out with his friends.
