Dear Parents and Friends of Melrose Primary This week and until the end of term will be a busy time for us. This last Monday and Tuesday Brooke and Julianne attended a STEM Conference in Adelaide and on Wednesday made visits to two schools Christian Brothers College and St Peters Girls College and also an IT company to investigate their IT programs and facilities, and what they offer and how we can improve what we offer here to our students. We are in the process of updating our IT resources and to be able to see what other schools offer, it has been very beneficial for us in making our decision about the direction we take and what we purchase. Yesterday the school went to Orroroo for a Science performance which was enjoyed by all. Photos of excursion are included in this newsletter.
Musical Performance Today Faith College from the Barossa Valley presented a musical performance for us. Their college Year 9 music students have been doing a music tour through the Mid North and today we were lucky enough to have them perform for us. Their show was based on the theme of ‘Songs from Movies’ that incorporates many well-known movie hits. We hope our visitors have inspired our instrumental music students to further their musical skills and show them what they are capable of achieving. Author Visit Next Wednesday afternoon an author Gina Dawson will be working with the Upper Primary class about writing books and how she became an author. Her website is www.ginadawson.com We have a number of budding writers and this will be a terrific experience for them.
Multi-Cultural Awareness Day Friday 28th June The whole school will be travelling to Orroroo to join all Primary Schools in the Partnership for a multi-cultural awareness day. Students will be involved in various activities including decorating boomerangs, wood carving and attending a performance by ‘Dusty Feet’. Students will be travelling by bus to Orroroo leaving at 9am. Students will need to take their recess, lunch, drink, school hat and wear their school uniform. Students will be back at school for normal dismissal. There will be no costs associated with the excursion. Permission notes need to be returned to school by next Wednesday 26 June.
Primary Students Camp Year 3 to Year 7 students are attending an adventure camp at Errappa at Iron Knob from 1 July to the 3 July. This is a joint camp with the primary students from Wilmington.
