Dear Parents and Carers,
As the Summer term is coming to an end in what has
been an incredibly busy school year I am in a privileged
position of almost having too much celebratory
information to share with you. It has been an incredible
term with residential trips to Downe Activity Centre
and the New Forest, a Sports Day where several
records were broken and a truly spectacular whole
school production of The Lion King where we had over
80 pupils involved! In addition to this, we have had a
Healthy Living themed week where pupils were
involved in a range of activities including outdoor
cooking, gardening and international dining. As always, this time of year is tinged with sadness as we say
goodbye to our Year 11s who leave for pastures new and I want to congratulate all of them for remaining
focused and applying themselves diligently throughout their exams. We wish all of the year 11 pupils the
very best of luck for the future as we eagerly await the exam results later this Summer.
I would also like to say a huge congratulations to Mr Mike Kitteridge, who from September will be taking
up the position of Assistant Headteacher, and to Miss Diane Boulton, who has been promoted to Head of
Year 9.
Sadly we are saying goodbye to Miss Anna Grace, who is leaving us to take the opportunity to teach
abroad; we wish her the best of luck. In September we will be welcoming Miss Holly Pointer to the
English Department, and Miss Elizabeth Jacob to the position of General Studies teacher.
As of September, there is a change to our policy on mobile devices in school. It is important that you are
aware of these changes; please see the new policy in the General Information section of this Newsletter.
Finally, it has been a privilege to have spoken to so many of you whether it has been through parents
evenings, coffee mornings or just an informal catch-up at the school gates. Listening to your views has
been invaluable and I hopefully I will see more of you next term at the parent working party.
I wish you all a very relaxing and enjoyable Summer.
Kind regards
Ian
Headteacher

In January 2019 at the beginning of the year, we were delighted to welcome the new Headteacher, Ian Travis and Deputy Headteacher, Marianne Rodger-Weetman and we were pleased that they soon settled into the busy schedule of daily school life and now as we approach the end of another successful academic year, we would like to thank them both, along with all the other members of staff for the way in which they have managed this smooth transition. We have a dedicated and committed Board of Trustees who have worked hard to maintain the strengths of the school and we are very sad to say farewell in particular to two parent trustees, who have strongly represented the views of parents/carers, and we wish to thank both Sam McKale and Khadija Himid-Wilson for their contributions to the Board. We will be welcoming two new parent trustees, Kerry Demello and Mona Farah in September. As ever, there is much to do and we look forward to taking the Multi-Academy Trust in new directions in the future, but perhaps for the moment we should wish all staff, students, parents and carers a very happy and relaxing summer break. With best wishes and kind regards on behalf of all Trustees, Sue Colquhoun

A huge congratulations to all the students who par-
ticipated in our Annual Sports Day Event at Norman
Park. It was a huge success and so fantastic to see all
our students competing at such a high level and
achieving a medal for all their resilience and effort.
It was a very tightly fought day with Blues earning
214 points and Reds 225 points. But 10 points ahead
with 235 points, the winners were the GREEN TEAM!
10 school records were broken! Huge congratulations to:
Year 7: Assia, 200m, 800m & Long Jump
Year 8: Tre, 100m
Year 9: Arkin, 50m
Year 10: Jade, 200m
Year 11: Katie, Long Jump
Year 12-14: Tariq, Shot Putt
Relay: Tom, Tommy, Praise & Jake
This year’s production was the long awaited Lion King. After
months of rehearsals both in and after school, a stunning
performance was delivered by everyone involved. The main
cast and ensemble brought the characters and songs to life,
with the magic of the technical crew transporting us to the
African Savannah. Hakuna Matata!
Between May 22nd and May 24th most Year 9 students took part in a two night residential trip to Downe Activity Centre. The trip was a taster session for the Duke of Edinburgh Award and supported curriculum work in Geography, PE and Art. Students walked from Glebe to Downe Activity Centre and developed outdoor learning skills such as tent building, fire-lighting, orienteering and outdoor cooking. Throughout their trip, students were encouraged to focus on three themes of teamwork, effort and kindness.
This year’s Cross Curricular Week has just finished and was a great success (9th to 12th July). The normal curriculum was replaced by an exciting alternative curriculum for the week based on Healthy Living. Students from different Year Groups worked together with their staff team on projects based around food, exercise and well-being. Each project had an exciting array of activities including fruit gathering, outdoor cooking, gardening, multi-sports, food games and international dining.
What a truly amazing year we have had in English. The students have stretched their imagination and creativity in developing wonderful pieces of writing and creating dramatic scenes, some of which have been made into films. Our students have been taken on many a journey with a variety of texts providing them with a stimulus for creating some fabulous learning. The English team are eagerly awaiting the Year 11 students results as their tenacity and effort put into their coursework and exams needs to be highly commended. We are extremely proud of all our students, especially with 85% of them making and exceeding progress in all areas of English this year. We look forward to doing it all again next year.
This term saw the Maths department celebrating a lot of success in the progress of Glebe students. End of year assessments saw the majority of students making expected or better progress in their Glebe Stages – in some cases students progressed by as many as 6 stages! Big congratulations to Haydn King year 7, Lily-May Wade year 8, Leah Lacey, Arkin Hassan and Thomas Mitchell-Jefferies year 9 who all made exceptional progress this year. The Maths department also trialled a new qualification in year 11 to attempt to bridge the gap between the Entry level qualification and GCSE. Some students in year 11 were entered for the Edexcel Award in Number and Measures and some also for the Edexcel Award in Statistics on top of the qualifications they were already taking. We wish all the year 11 students all the best for their results. At the beginning of July, the 6th Form headed off to the New Forest for their annual residential trip.
The destination, Ferny Crofts Scout Camp, has great facilities to enable us to reinforce many of the things taught throughout our curriculum pathways during the year, particularly independence.
On the first day, students experienced Zip Wire, Tomahawk Throwing, Peddle Carts and Paddle Games. Day two saw us picnicking in the New Forest and enjoying the wild water rides at Splashdown. Day Three was spent at Boscombe Bay beach and our last day on the rides at Paultons Park. Many of the students found the trip challenging, but they all coped amazingly and returned with smiling faces saying what a great time they had.
This year 80% of Year 11 students were entered for GCSE Biology, Trilogy and Astronomy, and 100% of Year 11 students completed OCR Entry Level Certificate in Science. All students have worked very hard revising for the exams. Both staff and students were committed to working after school to help students get better results. The students in Years 7 and 8 have enjoyed science lessons in the labs, classrooms and outdoors, with things like the Solar System walk, Bag Hunts and finding out how Water Rockets work.
A group of 10 students have just completed a 2 year Level 1 Food and Cookery course with NCFE. This consisted of 4 units. One unit was an external examination paper and one was a practical assignment -' To prepare dishes for an Afternoon Tea'. They also had two other coursework units. Students worked incredibly hard and the results were impressive. All students passed, four gained Merits and four gained Distinctions. Congratulations to Feng, Emily, Honey, Alfie, Katie Nye, James, Ben, Ella, Rueben and Xena.
The students in The Den have had a wonderful term full of fun trips and adventures. In June, they attended Water Sports Day at Danson Park. They had a great time working together to row the bell boat, and also won the boat race! All of students participated in Sports Day at Norman Park. They showed teamwork and good sportsmanship throughout the day. In July, they visited Godstone Farm to learn all about farm animals. The students were able to see and hold hedgehogs, rabbits, chickens, and an 87-year-old tortoise called Georgina. All of the students showed independence, resilience and good behaviour whilst on the trips; I can’t wait to see how much fun we can have next year.
During this summer term in ICT year 9 students worked with the Information Advice & Support Service(IASS) on a Logo Design project to create a New IASS logo for website and other media/promotional purposes. The strong partnership between IASS and the ICT department at Glebe has been established and forged over the course of four great years of competitions and challenges. IASS Project manager Matt Barton and the rest of the IASS Bromley branch team will announce the winners of the 'logo design' competition during a whole school assembly in the forthcoming Autumn term. In other news the ICT department has arranged for students to participate in an exclusive and lucrative 'Vlogging' workshop experience, with experts teaching students how to be creative with Vlogging but also more importantly how to stay safe when doing so.
On Monday 3rd June, More than the Daily Mile was
launched and the challenge was to run, jog or walk for
more than a mile Every day. The students had to
commit their own time to complete this during
lunchtimes. As of Wednesday 10th July the following set
of impressive results have occurred…
On 12th June over 300 students from across Bromley competed for the prestigious trophy. Our
students were amazing all day and showed true courage and determination to have a go alongside
their peers from other schools; a very nerve wracking experience for them all but they came
through it full of pride!
Well done to: Kyran, Ryan, Tre, Lewis, Nate, Ellis, Owen, Beth, Gemma, Natese & Assia
27 students from across the school competed for the cup
at the impressive Bromley Tennis Centre. All students
played really well and there was some of the best tennis
ever seen in the tournament being played throughout the
day. The finals were an all Glebe affair with Beth taking on
the mighty Flora, with Beth winning 14-10 & and in the
boys was Hamza versus Bobby, with Bobby winning in an
exciting final 12-10. Both matches were very close fought
matches of the highest standard. Well done to all who
took part!

Glebe students represent Bromley in the London Youth Games in Football, Swimming, Indoor Rowing and Athletics competitions throughout the year. These competitions are against 32 other boroughs. Congratulations to Assia, Leah, Sian, Lucy, Beth, Sophia, Haddy, Becky D, Ryan, Tre, Timothy, Lewis, Alfie M, Jamie B, Tyler, Gareth.
Glebe school fielded a boys’ & a girls’ team in this
competition set at Hackney Marshes. Girls got through
to the quarter final knock out stages & just missed out
securing a place in the semi-final by a last 20secs goal
from the opposition. They came a brilliant 5th place.
The boys had an extremely successful competition &
were so unlucky to just miss out on a finals place by a
Sudden Death penalty competition. This situation
reoccurred in the play offs for 3rd & 4th place & again
they were very unlucky. Despite their disappointment
the boys still congratulated their opposition & had a
great attitude knowing that they had done their best!
Taylor and Amari represented the sailing team at Queen
Mary’s Sailing Club. Taylor gained 2 Silver medals despite
capsizing due to a huge gust of wind! Unfortunately Amari was
unable to compete due to the strong winds on Sunday.
Kyran, Beth, John, Sarah, Bobby, Paris, Flora, Sophia (Silver), Joseph (Silver), Gareth (Bronze), Eme
(Silver) all took part in the Swimming Gala at Beckenham Spa.
The girls were awarded 3rd place, with the boys earning valuable points to add to the overall
standings. Well done to our students for coping in tough races but performing well, and
maintaining their calm under pressure.
The Glebe contingent of the Bromley Athletics squad travelled to Mile End Stadium to take part. The girls finished second overall & boys came 9th.

9 students represented Bromley in the Indoor Rowing at Crystal Palace. They all had to row as fast as possible in 2 minutes! A huge well done to Leah (Gold), Taylor (Bronze), Natese (Gold & Bronze), Jodie(2 Golds & a Bronze), Daniel (2 Golds & Bronze), Arkin (Silver & Bronze), Bradley (Gold, Silver & Bronze).
Bromley came third overall in this competition due to the success of our students.
All students who represented Bromley receive a year’s gym membership, free kit and any students gaining Gold received a Nike training top.
It has been wonderful to see our students supporting each other and sharing each other’s victories and achievements throughout these competitions.
The Year 7s & 10s had a fantastic day at Danson Park experiencing Kayaking, Canoeing, dragon boat racing & sailing all in one day!
MARCH Hasifa, Year 8
For her positive approach to her travel training
A huge congratulations to the following students, who have not missed a single day of school the academic year and achieved a fantastic 100% attendance record. Well done!

Tuesday 17th September 5:30 - 7:00pm in the Hall. This will be an opportunity for parents/carers and students from years 8-14 to gather valuable information about prospective further education colleges and also agencies that support the family.
The Farmers Market continues to thrive. Students from across the school support the production and sale of goods at the market in Bromley this term. It was a great success, and our students from the DEN came along to lend a helping hand.
Year 11 students will commence their Friday morning link course next term at LSEU Bromley. Students have chosen from Horticulture, Mechanics or iMedia. This link is in preparation for their post-16 transition.
Students in year 11 will be on a two week work experience programme from 7th October.
An annual event now, this term saw the arrival of five duck eggs, which under the care and love of the students and Miss Kane, all successfully hatched into fluffy ducklings. A fantastic opportunity for our students to learn about the cycle of life as well as a chance to relax and socialise with others whilst caring for the ducklings.
We can only dispense medication that is sent to the school in its original package and with a
permission slip completed by parents/carers. This is on the website under the ‘resources’ tab. Your
help in these areas is appreciated.
Can I please remind parents/carers that the cost of school meals is £2.30 per day; £11.50 per week. This should be paid at the beginning of each week, in an envelope with your child’s name and tutor group. If you would like to pay for the next half-term the cost will be £78.20.
From September 2019, mobile phones/electronic device usage during the school day will no longer be
permitted, in order to safeguard all pupils and address internet safety and their use of social media.
Devices should not be used in class by students to contact others, as this detracts from their learning and
results in behaviour and safeguarding incidences.
We appreciated that pupils should be allowed to carry phones to and from school for their safety,
however when they return for the new academic year, pupils should ensure that their phones are kept
within their bags for the duration of the school day or are handed into the school office. As has previously
been communicated, students who do bring in mobile phones, do so at their own risk.
Any phones which are seen, will be confiscated and taken to the school office, for collection at the end of
the school day. Should this be repeated, phones/electronic devices must be handed in upon arrival to
school and remain in the office until 3.10 pm. This will also allow for students to socialise and join the
organised clubs on offer.
I would ask that you support the school with this decision and speak to your child about this in order to
prepare them for the Autumn term. Should you need to contact your child during the school day, please
contact the main office and a message will be passed on to your child.
Messages should be given through the school office.
Unfortunately, the rising incidents in cyber bullying and inappropriate use of social media is common place in this day and age and one of the biggest challenges facing schools. Also, as a parent myself, I worry about what risks and dangers our children are being exposed to. We must remain committed to working together in this area and I intend to keep providing information, training and guidance for you. Please see the e-safety tab on the school website for the latest news, but this is snapshot of what we have/are doing:
WhatsApp Letters sent to all parents/carers with information about removing pupils from groups. I urge you all to do this
I am keen to hear from parents/carers interested in attending parental e-safety training
Can I please remind parents/carers of the need for school uniform. It is a requirement for all students up to and including Y11 and our simple requirements are set out below. We can avoid a negative start to the day for students if parents/carers ensure that students leave for school appropriately dressed. Your co-operation with this is appreciated.
Plain navy blue cardigan, jumper or sweatshirt (without logos)
Plain white or pale blue shirt/blouse (without logos)
Grey/black trousers or skirt
Black shoes. Only plain black trainers are acceptable
Can I urge that all items of clothing are marked or labelled with your child’s name. We amass a huge amount of items by the end of term that we are unable to return to their rightful owner. After two terms, unclaimed items are given to charity.
We are always grateful to receive uniform that your child may have outgrown to pass on to other families. If you have anything that is no longer of use to your child then we would be happy to receive it.
