PARENTS

The NT Department of Education is asking for nominations for Teaching in the Territory Awards. Please see

the back of the newsletter for details or email me if you have any questions about this. The NT government

is also beginning consultation about school holidays and again if you wish to have your say the details can be

found at the end of the newsletter.

ATHLETIC SPORTS Our Cluster Athletics Carnival was held yesterday at Marrara. Our school had 55 students representing us in the track and field events. I was very proud to see all of these students striving for success and encouraging each other. The support of parents was also wonderful to see. Parap Primary came 2nd in the Overall Trophy with Essington winning the award. However in the Handicap shield PPS came 1st which is an amazing effort. Being one of the biggest schools competing we had to overcome a very high handicap to win and it is testament to the way our students worked as a team that we were able to do this. I would also like to thank Mr Small for the many hours he put in with additional training sessions each morning before school and the many recesses and lunch times he did this. 200 metres

Our wonderful day concluded with the age relay teams. Students were given the chance to run together and enjoy this experience. It also gave an extra event for those students who had not had such a busy day. Our relay teams did very well and it was a lovely way to finish a very exciting day.

Consultation on school holiday dates

The Northern Territory Government is conducting a survey to hear your views on the configuration of holiday breaks in government schools – when each break occurs, and the length of each of the breaks over the school year.

The current arrangements for school holidays have been in place since the 1970s and it is time to consider if they best fit the needs of students, parents and the NT community. The survey will help government to decide if further consideration of changes is necessary. Any proposed changes would not occur until 2017.

To find out more, and to complete the survey, visit www.education.nt.gov.au
