150 YEARS OF CELEBRATING THE MAHATMA

Mahatma Gandhi is not just a name, it’s an ideology; it’s not just an ideology but a way of thinking and living. Gandhiji’s simplicity adorned with veracity has paved the world a new way of peace and non-violence to conquer even the invincible worldly challenges. His universal doctrines of freedom, equality and peace are widely adopted across the globe. His philosophies are still a source of inspiration for many even today. So, the initiative of the central government to pay a befitting tribute to the father of our nation by associating ourselves in the cleanliness drive and spreading the message of peace is quite praiseworthy. As a part of this massive campaign, D.A.V. Public School, Pokhariput, organised numerous educative and awareness programmes. The details are as mentioned below.

Activities organized in the school to commemorate the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

1. Elocution Competition by the Dept. of Social Science. Date of Competition: 17.08.2019 Topic: Relevance of Gandhian Philosophy in Twenty First Century Classes: VIII to XII Total 17 students participated in this competition & the following three occupied the first three positions.

3. Inter-House Song Competition Theme: Patriotic Songs & Songs Gandhiji used to sing. The students from the four houses of the school took part in this competition with a lot of interest. Date of Competition:31.09.2019 Champion- Bhakti House and Runners Up- Stuti House

4. A Cleanliness Drive by Stuti House Date: 11.09.2019 The students of Stuti house along with the house teachers took a small initiative to clean the surrounding of school. They gathered small glass pieces lying at the back side of canteen. They organized the debris in systematic order that were laying backside.

5. A Survey on Health & Hygiene by Bhakti House Date: 14.09.2019 A survey was carried out by Bhakti house students to create awareness on personal health and hygiene among the students of Class III to V. They also took survey of Group D employees on how they are facing problems in keeping the school campus clean.

7. Cleanliness Drive by NCC, Scout, Guide, Red Cross & the School Clubs

Date:1.10.2019 NCC, Scout, Guide, Red Cross, Club Members and Cabinet members visited to Madhusudan Park, Kargil Basti and cleaned the surroundings over there.

8. A Painting Competition on Gandhiji Date: 1.10.2019 A painting competition on Gandhiji was conducted among the students of Class-VI to VIII under the guidance of Ms. Ina Maharana. Mr B. K. Panda & Mr Rashmi Ranjan Das were the judges to assess the paintings. 9. A Visit to an Old Age Home on Elders Day by the Members of Cyber Club & NCC students.

Date: 01.10.2019 Two students Ms. Subhasini Priyadarshini of IXB and Ms.Shrusti Dash of IXA & the teachers Ms.Sasmita Rout & Ms Rajalakshmi Tripathy reached the Old Age Home at Sundarpada and distributed food & clothes to the old people there. They shared some happy moments with them.

OBSERVATION OF GANDHI & SHASTRI JAYANTI ON October 2,2019

1. A meeting was held comprising the Supervisor, Social Science teachers, House Co-ordinator and teachers of Function Department on September 30, 2019 regarding the observation of Gandhi and Shastri Jayanti. It was decided that the observation would be done as per the proper decorum along with the cultural programme. It was also decided that a peace and Swachata rally would be organised on comprising 150 students from class III to XII dressed as Gandhiji.

2. A staff meeting was held presided over by the Principal on 1st October and discussion was made about the agenda of the observation of Gandhi and Shastri Jayanti and the organisation of the Peace and Swachhata Rally on this day. Different duties were assigned to different staff members for smooth functioning of the programme.

3. The Heritage Club of the school along with the Function Department and the Department of Social Science organised the programme for the observation of Gandhiji’s 150th Birth anniversary and Shastri Jayanti. The Chief Guest on this

occasion was Dr. Sujata Sahoo, the ARO & Principal of the host school, D.A.V. Public School, Pokhariput.

4. The programme started with the lighting of lamp.

5. The principal of the school administered the Green Pledge to all the staff and students of the school.

6. The welcome speech of the programme was conducted by Ms. Siya Das, Secretary, Heritage Club of the school.

7. “Ramdhun” chorus was sung by all the students and teachers of the school.

8. A report was presented by the leaders of the Stuti and Bhakti House on their various activities on swachhata inside and outside the school campus on the eve of Gandhiji’s 150th birth anniversary.

9. A documentary was displayed in the auditorium on the life of Gandhiji starting from his childhood to last days.

10. The Assistant School Leader of the school delivered a speech on Gandhiji commemorating his contributions to the freedom movement and his life.

11. A group song was sung by the students of Bhakti House relating to Gandhiji’s life.

12. Ms Siya Das, Secretary of the Heritage Club narrated on the life of Lal Bahadur Shastri commemorating his birth anniversary.

13. The students of Class- VI and VII along with the teachers performed a skit titled “Bapu-The Father of Nation”.

14. A peace and swachhata rally was organised commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. This rally was flagged off by the Principal, Dr. Sujata Sahoo.

15. 150 students from class III to XII participated in this Rally , dressed as Gandhiji. The rally was led by the Principal of the school, all the Staff, NCC, SCOUT, GUIDE students with the ongoing “Ramdhun” bhajan. The rally went on for about 3 k.m. distance from the school campus to the nearby locality. Four spots were made at a regular distance on the route of the rally where

teachers and Group-D employees were deployed with adequate water and First-Aid arrangement for the students taking part in the rally.

16. After the rally, the observation ceremony continued in which prizes were given away by the Principal, the Chief Guest of the programme, to the successful winners ,who had taken part in different competitions inside and outside the school.

17. The school magazine “PRERANA” was released by the Principal along with the members of the Editorial Board.

18. The Principal, Dr. Sujata Sahoo, the Chief Guest of the occasion, delivered

her inspiring speech highlighting the ideals and virtues of Gandhiji and suggested the students to imbibe these values in their day to day life.

19. At last, the Vote of Thanks was offered by Dr. Girija Shankar Bal, the

Secretary of the Heritage Club of school.
