EMPLOYMENT & SKILLS
“A great opportunity to young unemployed people,
I would recommend the course to anyone who is
looking for a new direction but is unsure which path to
take.”
“ I would not be in the position I am now if I did
not attend the Prince’s Trust Course”
Before the Prince’s Trust Course Davina attended Manchester College where she was forced to take leave due to ill health and therefore lost momentum and focus. During the first week of the course Davina engaged with other members of the team forming new friendships that would prove invaluable during the residential at Tanrallt Mountain Centre in Snowdon. On residential Davina’s problem solving skills proved useful keeping the team focused during the team building activities
One of the areas Davina wanted to improve was her confidence and communication skills and the Community Project gave her the perfect opportunity. The team found a dance studio in Levenshulme that needed a makeover and Davina took on the responsibility for all the publicity for the project, this included contacting the local newspaper and giving a presentation to guests at the grand opening
In week nine the team have the chance to put all their new found skills into practice during a two week work placement. Davina secured a placement at the Southways Housing Association. During her time with Southways Davina had the opportunity to work in a variety of roles enabling her to see all aspects of the company. Her placement was such a success that the company have asked Davina to apply for an apprenticeship
In weeks ten and eleven the team looked at the next steps to employment. Due to the positive experience with Southway Davina decided this was the area of employment for her. Davina also applied to another Housing Association in the area and was again invited for an interview. The interviews were a roaring success with Davina being offered both positions
