One way to analyze and compare measurements is by using a line plot.

Line Plot:  is a type of graph that shows the frequency of measurements along a number line.  The graph below is a line plot.

Today's Objective:  create a line plot to display a data set of measurements in fractions.

How to create a line plot:

  Choose a scale that is appropriate for your data.  (Fractions)

  Draw a horizontal line.

  Divide the line into equal parts based on your scale.

  Place an x over the number for each measurement.

       Let's practice:

Step 1:  Choose a scale.  _____________________

Step 2:  Draw a number line.

Step 3:  Divide the number line into equal parts based on your scale. 

Step 4:  Draw an X above the number of each measurement.  How many 1/4, how many 3/4, how many 1/2?
