1. WHAT DO YOU SEE?W H AT Y O U N E E D : “Frog,” “Apple,” and “Sun” Activity Pages; cardstock; tape; three clear plastic rectangle containers (like a casserole dish); clear jelly marbles; a pouring container; and water

W H AT Y O U D O : Before the Activity: Make one copy of “Frog,” “Apple,” and “Sun” on cardstock. Tape each picture onto the bottom of a clear plastic rectangle container so when you look inside the containers you see a picture looking up through the bottom of it. Soak the clear jelly marbles in water. (Note: You will need to soak the clear jelly marbles in water for three to four hours before using them in the activity.)

After soaking the jelly marbles, place enough of them in the clear plastic rectangle containers so that the pictures are covered up when you look inside the containers. When you do this, the clear jelly marbles will make the pictures look blurry.

During the Activity: Gather the children around one of the containers. Invite them to look in the container at the blurry picture. After they take a few guesses at what the picture may be, pour water into the container. As you pour water over the jelly marbles, they will “disappear” and the picture will no longer look blurry. The children will be able to clearly see the picture. Do this with each container.

W H AT Y O U S AY: Before the Activity: “Come here and look at this! I have something I want you to see.”

During the Activity: “Look inside. Do you see a picture? Can you tell what the picture is? I can’t see it. It’s too blurry because all of those balls are covering the picture. Touch them. What do they feel like? Yes, they’re squishy and slippery. Right now we can’t see the picture, but watch what happens when I pour this water.

(As you slowly pour the water) “Look . . . look . . . keep looking! Tell me what you see. (Pause.) I see a [item on the picture] too! Who made the [item]? (Pause.) God made the [item]! And even though we can’t see God, we know He’s real because we can see all the things He made, like the [item]!” (Repeat this with each picture.)

2. CAN YOU SEE ME?W H AT Y O U N E E D : Silly glasses (one per child)

W H AT Y O U D O : Before the Activity: Gather children in an open area in the room and pass out the silly glasses.

During the Activity: Teach the words and motions to the memory verse while children wear their silly glasses.

After the Activity: Talk about how we know God loves us. Send home the Memory Verse Card found in the Home Resources folder.

W H AT Y O U S AY: Before the Activity: “Hello, hello, friends! Today we need some super funny glasses to help us learn our memory verse. (Pass out the glasses.) Okay, let’s get our glasses on. (Pause.) Nice! Everyone looks great!”

During the Activity: “Look at me and let’s say it together. You repeat what I say and then we’ll put it together. Okay. Let us (repeat) keep looking (repeat) to Jesus (repeat), Hebrews 12:2. (Repeat.) Let’s say it all together. Let us keep looking to Jesus, Hebrews 12:2. Great! Now let’s add the motions. Let us (thumbs to chest) keep looking (hands to eyes like binoculars and look around) to Jesus (both hands pointing up), Hebrews 12:2. (Open hands like a book.) Wow! Let’s say it one more time with the motions. (Repeat the verse with motions.) Nice job, friends!”

After the Activity: “God loves us so much that He gave us His Son, Jesus, to be our forever friend. Jesus teaches us the way we should act and treat others, so we should always look (adjust your glasses) to Him. Who wants to be your friend forever? [Bottom Line] Jesus wants to be my friend forever.”

3. CREATION MATCH UPW H AT Y O U N E E D : “Creation Memory Cards” Activity Page, cardstock, and scissors

W H AT Y O U D O : Before the Activity: Copy “Creation Memory Cards” on cardstock and cut on dotted lines (two sets per activity).

During the Activity: Shuffle the cards and place them face down in a grid pattern on the table. Let the children take turns turning over two cards to find a match. If they find a match, ask them to identify the picture on the cards, and set them aside. If no match is found, turn the cards face down on the table to continue playing. Make sure each child has a turn to find a match. Repeat if time allows.

W H AT Y O U S AY: Before the Activity: “God made SO many wonderful things. I have a few examples here on these cards. But first, we need to search for matches! Turn over two cards and let’s see if we can find a match. Don’t worry, everyone will have a turn.”

After the Activity: “God made birds and flowers and trees and elephants. He gave us all the wonderful things to enjoy. But the best gift God gave us is Jesus! He wants to be your friend forever! Who wants to be your friend forever? [Bottom Line] Jesus wants to be my friend forever.”

4. CREATIONS FROM CREATIONBe sure to list the items you will be using today on the “Allergy Alert Poster” and post it at the door to your room.

W H AT Y O U N E E D : Play-Doh® (one or two lumps per child); “Allergy Alert Poster”; cardstock; nature items (leaves, twigs, small pebbles, feathers, acorns, etc.); small plastic animals; and divided trays or cookie sheets (optional)

W H AT Y O U D O : Before the Activity: Copy “Allergy Alert Poster” on white cardstock and hang it on the door. Place the lumps of Play-Doh at each spot. Separate each of the nature items provided into separate piles in the center of the table or on a divided tray. Place the plastic animals in the center of the table.

During the Activity: Encourage the children to create items that God has made using the Play-Doh and any of the items provided in the center of the table. They may even choose to use one of the plastic animals as inspiration as they shape their own animal. OR children may use the Play-Doh and items provided to create whatever they’d like. Allow children to be as creative as they choose and share their creations with each other.

After the Activity: Gather all Play-Doh and return to airtight containers. Set all other items aside for clean-up.

W H AT Y O U S AY: Before the Activity: “One of the amazing things that God created is YOU! And He made you to be creative, too. Let’s use our Play-Doh to create something fun. You can either shape your Play-Doh to create something you love that God has made, OR you can create something totally new. Do you see the items from nature here on the table? What do you see? (Pause.) Great job, friends. You may use any of these items in your creation, too.”

After the Activity: “Look at all these creative creations! God made so many wonderful things for us to enjoy and to show us how much He loves us. But the best gift God gave us is Jesus. God gave us to Jesus to be our friend forever. Who wants to be your friend forever? [Bottom Line] Jesus wants to be my friend forever.”

4. JOURNAL AND PRAYERW H AT Y O U N E E D : Paperclip “Memory Verse Card” in your Bible at Hebrews 12:2. Provide a journal and a fun-shaped pen for each small group.

W H AT Y O U D O : Gather your small group around you. Lead the children to your small group spot. Review the story, say the memory verse, write in your journal, and pray.

W H AT Y O U S AY: S M A L L G R O U P L E A D E R ( S G L ) : “One of the fun things we get to do is meet with the same small group of friends each day. Look around at the friends in this group.

(Pause and look around as you smile.)

“This is our small group! We have (name each child as you point to them). Making new friends is the best!

“Okay, I want everyone to think of your favorite animal. We are going to pretend to be our favorite animals while we walk to our small group spot. If your favorite animal is a bird, you can pretend to fly. If it’s a kangaroo, you can hop. If it’s a dog, you can bark while we walk. Come on and follow me! Let’s be animals!

(Pretend to be an animal while you lead the children to your small group spot.)

“Here we are! This is our small group spot. Thank you for pretending to be animals with me. That was fun! Now let’s sit down and talk about today’s Bible story. One, two, three, sit down with me!

(Open the Bible and lay it where the children can see it.)

“Our Bible story today was about how God made everything—the sun, stars, trees, mountains, oceans, people, and yes, ANIMALS! And even though we can’t see God, we know He is real because we can see everything He made.

(Hold journal and fun-shaped pen.)

“Let’s make a list of some things God made. When you think of something God made, say it and I’ll write it down.

(Encourage the children to think of things God made. Write down what they say. Remember to print so the children can recognize their names and the letters.)

“Wow! When we look around, we see LOTS of amazing things God made because God made everything!

“Hmmm. I see something else God made that we need to add to our list. Well, actually (say number of children in group) somethings. I am going to add (say each child’s name as you write them in the journal). Because God made you!

“This list we made is awesome! Good job! I’ll lay it here for now.

(Lay the journal down beside you.)

“We can use it later when we pray. But first, I have a very important question. God made a wonderful world and everything in it for us but He gave us something even better. Do you remember WHO is the best gift ever that God gave us? (Pause.)

“YES! Jesus! God gave us Jesus to be our friend forever! That’s why when we ask, ‘Who wants to be your friend forever?’ you say, [Bottom Line] ‘Jesus wants to be my friend forever!’ Let’s try it. Who wants to be your friend forever?”
