VAN HESSEN-PHILIPS-CAPGEMINI-KLM-INGDear readers,
Monday 27th September
Our monday morning started off not quite
like any other monday morning does. We were
picked up by bus and driven to van Hessen, the
sausage casings factory. Johan Domela
introduced us to the company, very interesting! We
got the opportunity to look around the workers
place and to try to select the best intestines..not
an easy job we can tell!
In the afternoon it was time for out visit to
Philips. The students prepared a case, which was
sent by KK Ho, the vice-president and CFO of
Philips. The case was focused on the R&D in
China. The result had to be presented to a couple
of members of the board. Critical questions were
fired to our students, but they managed very well.
It was a very interesting and educative visit.
Tuesday 28th SeptemberThe early bird catches the taxi to Capgemini.
That’s were we started out Tuesday journey.
Capgemini told us about their CSR and how they
are contributing to the social, economical and
environmental society.
In the afternoon the group was split in two.
One group went to KLM and was welcomed by
Remco Althuis, Regional Manager Shanghai &
Central Asia. Remco Althuis told us all the ins and
outs of the airline industry and the way it works in
China, it is full of surprises! The is intriguing to see
and hear to different rules and regulations and
how different industries work.
The other group went to ING. Piter de Jong,
also Nyenrodiaan, shared his experiences in
China, the banking sector and as a Nyenrodian in
Shanghai. The financial studens launched some
sharp questions towards Piter de Jong, which he
could only appreciate.
In the evening some students went to a KTV,
a Chinese Karaoke bar, which is very popular. We
sang like we never did before!
Tomorrow we are leaving Shanghai for two
days. We are going to Naked Retreats, a resort in
the Bamboo forest up in the mountains. We have
been asked to look at a marketing problem they
have been experiencing lately.
