WelcomeFellow Hereford Breeders, welcome to Olds, Alberta! Our family along with the breeder community in Canada are thrilled to be hosting the world. Canada is a wonderful place to raise Hereford cattle due to the landscape, climate and advances in research and innovation. The Hereford genetics on showcase this week will not disappoint. Study the cattle and talk to the breeders to see how you can integrate these genetics into your own program.

We are pleased to be hosting our embryo sale in conjunction with the 2012 World Hereford Congress. We have put together a very unique offering that has been and continues to be the foundation of our herd. We have carefully selected our finest breeding stock that best exemplifies our breeding for the past 37 years. Every lot presents an opportunity for buyers to incorporate the foundation of our herd into their own program.

This offering will be sold in a silent auction format at our WHC stall. There will be bidding sheets available where you can place your bids on each individual lot. The sale will open on July 15th and close at 3 pm on July 18th. At this point the highest bidder of individual lots will be the new owner respectably. The cost for shipping will be responsibility of the new owners. All embryos have been produced at a licensed embryo transport facility and are guaranteed to be number one exportable embryos. We will help assist in shipping arrangements.

We are very proud of the quality of offering in this sale because it is the foundations and future of our herd. We want to help out in any way to make your decision easier on selecting what will work best for your program. Please ask any of us at any point of the congress to discuss these lots.

Harvie Ranching Herd Bulls

We have always been proud of the bulls we developed here at the ranch. Each one is put to the test as soon as they hit the ground, and they must continually prove to us day in day out that they meet our high standards.

Our goal has always been to stray away from fads and select what works best for us. In doing so, we have selected sires from around the world that carry traits that would be beneficial for our herd. These traits consist of feed efficiency, structural soundness, adaptability, maternal strength, udder quality, testicle development, milking ability, calving ease, performance, and carcass data. The result has been annual sets of Hereford bull calf crops that consistently fit our mold leaving them proven, predictable, and profitable.

We feel extremely fortunate to have raised and walked Harvie Miss Firefly 51F for fifteen years at our ranch! She’s a cow that has not only impacted our herd, but the Hereford industry across the globe. Firefly 51F has generated over $500,000 from her progeny alone, on top of that money continues to be generated from her 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and continuing generations of Firefly’s. Firebird 41F is another hard working female that descends from the gwen family. She has raised herd sires and top females for us. A very complete cow in her make up with an excellent udder. Firebird 41F is sired by the same bull as Firefly 51F, who has been one of the best herd builders we have ever used. As a mature female, Firebird was Reserve National Champion Female. There have been a lot of great bulls and females that trail back to the mother of Pearl 129P, the great Iron Lady 43A. Their maternal ability is second to none, and their ability to produce great breeding cattle is legendary. Pearl 129P had a short time on the ranch, but on her second calf raised was the very popular $45,000 Harvie Traveler 69T. Who has become a trait leader in multiple categories after only a couple calf crops. Traveler 69T is having a dominant impact on the breed. These are full sibs to 69T and are the very last opportunity to own them. The sire Aberdeen has been successfully used in our herd and added extra coloring and doing ability. The value he has brought to our herd has been enormous.

Hillary 90H is a stand out brood cow that we sold to Copper Creek in bC. We continue to use this female because we love her kind and she has produced another top ET bull calf again this year by boulder. Females like 90H are hard to come by, she combines a lot of the great traits that Hereford cattle posses. Her offspring are moderate, dark with fantastic longevity. Hillary 90H paired with these two proven herd bulls couldn’t be more powerful. Lots of great cattle have been sired by both Formula and MC Ranger. The Formula bull is known for producing soft hided cattle with high maternal ability. While Ranger will add extra muscle and great carcass attributes.
