The children were able to take a “tour” of our Sharing Garden and to see/hear the importance of good soil for a good crop. They also folded a biodegradable pot to start their own plant. This is a note from the station leader: Eleanora Miller; “Your child has made a compostable seedling pot and planted a ‘Sunspot' dwarf sunflower seed. Put in a sunny spot, water and keep the soil moist. The sunflower should sprout in 5-12 days and eventually grow to two feet high, blooming summer to fall. When 3-4 inches high, plant the whole pot in in the ground or in a bigger pot.” If you wish to create more of these great planters you can find the link here: video - folded newspaper pot, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dlGQP81yfo photos - folded newspaper pot, http://diyready.com/newspaper-seedling-pots/ THE WOOLERY JUMP! Who would think that you could find not just ONE sheep but TWO in attendance today! The kids were able to get up close and personal with two sweet sheep from whisperinghopefarm.com in Gastonia, NC. They discovered what it takes to care for sheep and how people during Biblical days would have used the sheared wool to create fabrics, yarn and other needed items. Today, they felted wool roving around a small bar of soap to use a a “washcloth” for your home. PLEASE; THE SOAP CAME HOME STILL SOAPY…JUUST LET IT SIT OUT TO BEGIN TO DRY. Place at your sink or use in the bathtub to wash hands/bodies. Wool is naturally antibacterial and does not hold germs, totally safe for multiple users (especially for hands) The wool will continue to “shrink” as it is used…that is what it is supposed to do. We would like to thank the Whispering Hope Farm for spending the first two days of VBS with us! The children loved it! They also offer other camp opportunities; just pull up their website for more info. Was it a little harder to get up this morning? …or did your children JUMP out of bed eager to arrive to see what was in store for them today! You would think that I would get used to this, but each year of VBS reminds me anew as the kids pile in with all of their excitement just what a powerful outreach VBS is for our community. Yes, we have over 300 children attend…and we are ever grateful…but our focus is to make sure that EACH child knows they are loved not just by us, but by JESUS CHRIST. We have had a few ask if there was a way to help even if they were not able to be here during the day. If you would like to show your appreciation for our amazing volunteers, you could bake something or provide something for our volunteer hospitality table. We try to have an assortment of treats and drinks for them to enjoy during their trudges down the hall to and from stations. Just let me know if this is something you would be interested in helping with! thanks!!

With this crazy heat, our GAMES team has really stepped out to make sure the kids have a great time…and get WET! Remember when you were younger and loved to squeal as the cold water from the hose, water balloon or ice cubes hit your hot skin? The kids almost; ALMOST, forget it is almost a 100 degrees!

Remember your sunscreen! and we are making sure kids are well hydrated!

SART was one of the favorites today! The kids expanded on the story of the Sower from yesterday and created “seed mosaics”. It was quite a site to see these children with bowed heads over the tables trying to get just the right image/design.

What a great keepsake of our week!

(Tomorrow’s craft will involve ACRYLIC PAINT…wear play clothes please! You will want to pick up their finished masterpieces at the end of the day..they will be out front.)

Our 4 year olds are having a great time diving into the stories each day!

Today they ventured out to the courtyard and met our two sweet visiting sheep. Precious to watch them interact.

Watching the laughter, games, singing, snacking of these wee VBS-ers is heartwarming!

OUTREACH PROJECT; FEED MY SHEEP Within most every Children’s Ministry Program we offer there is always an Outreach Component. This year, we are again collecting

FOOD items that can be used to pack lunches/meals for children in our community over this summer as we pack over 150 bagged lunches each week for area children through our Bags of LOVE program and into the fall with the launch of our Backpack Meal

Program; Micah’s Backpack. Amazing, right? The kids groups are in competition to see which color can collect the most items. Exciting! Place the items in the bin with the child’s

color group above it. Thank you for helping us to feed so, so many; it’s what Jesus calls us to do after-all! You are proving the answers to so many prayers.

The list can be found on the website and below. These are suggestions not written in stone!

ConAgra Foods has a way to help feed children all over our country, simply buy purchasing products you already buy. To find out more:http://www.childhungerendshere.com
