Kimberly Clark’s dream home in the MG on the Halifax represents a fresh start for both her and her mother, Pat Rader. After years in Orlando,

Clark and Rader decided to head for the coast and, after househunting beachside for a while, decided to forgo fi xer-uppers in favor of a glamorous

three bedroom, three bath condo with breathtaking views.

“We wanted the house to reflect living at the beach in subtle ways,” says Clark, like this bubble chandelier that recalls the bubbles that sea life send up to the surface.

Clark, formerly an inte-rior designer and now a top leader with Rodan+Fields Dermatologists, worked with former partner and dear friend Cathy Appleton of Appleton Interiors in Winter Park to transform the 2,300 square foot residence into an elegant oasis, using primar-ily neutral tones of grays and taupes, browns and creams. “I wouldn’t do anything to my home without consulting with her. It was very much a collaborative process. It was wonderful to design my home with a friend who is like a sister.”

“We wanted the house to be calm,” Clark says. “We came for the water and the peacefulness of all that, but we didn’t want to do a beach house. We wanted that transcendent peacefulness with a neutral palette and just pops of color in places.” The home achieves that serenity using an artful mix

A dining area in Kimberly Clark’s condo at MG on the Halifax shows off the spectacular views.

of textures, from the papered walls to the grayish brown bamboo flooring, which recalls the color of dark driftwood.

“We sold everything that we had and started fresh with the furniture,” says Clark, “but we brought the artwork with us. It was very important to our family. A lot of the color in this home is on the walls, and we carry it through, maybe with pillows and a throw, but the effect is still very neutral. We wanted the house to reflect living at the beach in subtle ways.” This effect is achieved through a few well-chosen details, from the glass topped table that appears to be driftwood, to a bubble chandelier that recalls the bubbles that sea life send up to the surface, the house

reflects its setting in a “quiet way.”And the pair couldn’t be more pleased with the results.

“It’s a respite,” Clark says. “We love it. It reflects who we are. Some people would say that it’s very elegant, but we can still put our feet up on the coffee table. It’s a casual elegance.”

Clark’s greatest joy has been designing a home for herself and her mother, and a lifestyle that allows them plenty of time to spend together. “We’re living pinch me moments every day,” she says. “Being here has been such a beautiful, beautiful blessing.”
