Dazzle Winter Show Amazes.By Mari C, Victor E, Chris L and Angel M. with additions by the Editor.

On Saturday December 28 Dazzle had it's Annual Winter show in the Theatre at 112 Webster Avenue. The program this year featured videos the children made with the help of staff this past October with the Help of Louis Shelton (Dazzle Staff Member), original talent performances by the students, and an interactive game, and Music performed by the students, as well as a surprise Visitor from the North Pole. Yes Santa visited.

Also on Saturday our parents came to see our talents, and the game was a Parent/Child Quiz game. Mari and her mom won the Parent/Child Game because Louis asked what I ate Friday and she got that right and He asked my favorite color and I said I liked pink.

Angel says I was happy to see Mommy and Daddy and my Brothers there.Mari says Santa Clause brought me Micky Mouse Projects which I had wanted and I liked It.My Dad says He liked Dazzle..

We loved seeing Heather, our former staff there also. We very much enjoyed singing for for everyone.

I did like seeing Heather very much, That she was seeing the kids was a surprise. My Family was there. I liked being awarded student of the week. When I got home I got a new cell phone. I saw Santa Clause. I like my color group. I like when I have to Introduce my color group, that was fun. Dajon said his poem in front of everyone. I was happy seeing that Santa brought me a Scrabble game. It was fun to take a lot of time to practice the show and to do it for everyone.

Dazzle Student Art at UR Bridge Gallery by Mari C.

On the 8th of January 2014, Mari , Victor, Angelica, Brenton T, DeJon, Morgan and Jasmyne, went to Strong Hospital to go see pictures that the Dazzle kids made. The kids that made the pictures were Victor, Rachel and Chiquanda. We went to see the whole drawing exhibition by the people. The staff with us were Louis, Laura, and The Principal (Anne). We rode the bus with Henry. I liked it because It was so pretty. You could see the Artists being smart and you knew you could be like them. You could see all the Nice beautiful stuff that people had made. We had some Red cool-aid and cookies, brownies, and Fruits. We also had Meatballs. The lady from 100,000 voices was there. People asked us about Dazzle . They asked the older kids What do you do? and we could write it on a board. One of the people wrote something, and it was so beautiful, what he wrote. I felt like we could be Artists too. Victor's grandma came and that was great. If you were there you could have seen everything.

MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR by Anne HarveyHello to all of our families and friends. Happy New Year to everyone. 2014 promises, at least so far, to be a very productive year for Dazzle School. We are in the midst of designing our new school facility with the architects and look forward to lots of new and ample space for our programs and the Dazzleville project is being met with all kinds community and city enthusiasm and support. On this note we want our MSC's to know that we have openings for both our PosABILITIES respite program and our In-Home Behavior Support Services as well. Referrals for both programs are welcome and being accepted.Dazzle is currently collaborating in many areas with our friends at Happiness House. This collaboration is working very well and we look forward to a long and prosperous relationship with them to ensure quality programming for both agency's individuals being served and their families. The staff there are great and we are proud to be working with them. The Dazzle Theatre has been very busy with not only Dazzle's holiday celebration show and party but also is totally booked for the months of January, February, March and part of April, and, so far, into September for productions and rehearsals for many area theater companies. It is a busy place and a busy time for the Dazzle Theatre, Rochesters owned little answer to the famous Apollo Theatre in NYC. Everybody is having alot of fun here. Fun is a good thing!!We, here at Dazzle, are ready to take on 2014 with lots of changes, projects, yet to be announced and publicized and, of course growth. Looking forward to working with all of you in the new year. Thank you, Dazzle Staff for your continued commitment, support and expertise in keeping the Dazzle School creative, exciting, happy, safe and FUN!!Word from the Editor by Matthew DarbyThis is the cold season of the year. I hope you enjoyed your holiday with your family and friends and I hope you stayed safe. But with the wild winds of winter on us, It can be difficuly for children, who want to get out when the weather does not co-operate. This is a good time to re-focus on other activities which can be done indoors. Some of our children enjoy dance and movement based activities. This is very good exercise. The use of a headset for children who are volume sensitive can also aid this activity.Having said that, I must remind parents that personal electronics should be kept at home, where they will be available when the child needs them, but not at dazzle where any number of things can damage them or distract the child from the social and arts skills dazzle is teaching them. I'd be interested in hearing what you do at home when the weather is less than ideal for outdoor play. Feel free to send mail to [email protected] and let me know.
