OUR VERY FIRST ISSUEWritten by Geoffrey N. READ
ELCOME to our very first issue of the DCFA monthly
newsletter. Now that our Private Company Limited
by Guarantee has been formally
set-up with a properly-elected
Board of Trustees, a formally-
Memorandum of Association
and Articles, we thought it time
to inform you all of what is
going on behind the scenes!
This brand new monthly
newsletter will complement our website and will carry any
decisions and / or announcements made at our monthly
Board Meetings.
FOREWORD BY THE CHAIR
Written by Christine REID
ELCOME to the Devon & Cornwall Food Association
(DCFA)... a private company limited by Guarantee!
We are primarily a charitable
concern and in the process of
registering with the Charity
Commission.
We must ask ourselves why our
organisation needed. It has come
to light over recent years that
food waste is vast and it was felt
that this could be put to good usewithin our communities. I must point out that this is food
within its Use-by Date and is surplus to requirements.
Poverty is at a relatively high in our region and it is hoped
that our organisation will help the disadvantaged in some
way. The nearest outlet of a similar type to ours is based in
Bristol.
Since this project was talked about in the early summer, we
have come a long way... but there is still a lot more to be
done!
Our Trustees and the Co-opted Members to the Board have
been working very hard to see this bear fruit. I am
personally grateful for their efforts and commitment. A lot
of what is currently being done is unseen work behind the
scenes.
We aim is to start our operation in February 2011, starting
slowly and then building and then gradually widening our
area of operations to eventually cover the whole of Devonand Cornwall.
Please continue to watch this space in the New Year for our
launch with our official Press Release. At that time we will
be appealing for all sorts of help from volunteers to
funding. From storage space to vehicles. Do please feel
free to promote this cause within your own networking and
community of friends.
May thank you all for being with us so far and long may
you continue to be Friends of DCFA!
May I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy and
Peaceful 2011.
