DCU has responded to the need for a new generation of science teachers by preparing an integrated curriculum including:
Science Mathematics Education Information Technology
BSc in Science Education
Direct route into post-primary teaching Integrated Professional Diploma (H.Dip./GDED) & same
salary as H.Dip./GDED Grads Teacher training concurrent with science courses Dedicated Science Education lab Choice of 2 from Physics, Chemistry, or Mathematics as
major & minor topic – qualification to teach those 2 subjects to Leaving Cert level
Computing / IT integral to the course Foundation course in Biology – (no qualification to teach
to Leaving Cert level)
BSc in Science Education
First Year::Microteaching, small group teaching
Second Year:Microteaching, 4 weeks in school teaching Junior Certificate Maths and Science
Third Year:4 weeks in school teaching Junior & Senior CycleDeepen subject knowledgeLink teaching with project in major subject
Fourth Year:2 weeks Teaching Preparation workshop14 weeks (Feb–May) teaching Junior & Senior Cycle
School Placement Teaching Practice
Requirements:–HD3 or OA2 in Mathematics–HD3 or OC3 in any Laboratory Science
Points:–440 (cut off in 2014), intake of up to 40 students
